Week Four Prompts

Wednesday, March 22nd - Wednesday March 29
This is it, everyone! The final countdown! We are leaving this poetry camp with a BANG! Help me welcome the last prompts for this poetry camp!

Prompt One: World Theatre Day! (Celebrated March 27th)
Another great day to celebrate! I'm a HUGE theatre nerd so let's see what wonderful poems you come up with. Talk about anything theatre-related, seeing a show, a play/musical you like, or the fact that you know nothing about theatre! Anything will work, but if you need help message me, this is my specialty ;) This poetry style should be done in a Sestina.

The sestina is a complex, thirty-nine-line poem featuring the intricate repetition of end words in six stanzas and an envoi. (An envoi is a short stanza concluding a ballad).

The sestina follows a strict pattern of the repetition of the initial six end-words of the first stanza through the remaining five six-line stanzas, culminating in a three-line envoi. The lines may be of any length, though in its initial incarnation, the sestina followed a syllabic restriction. The form is as follows, where each numeral indicates the stanza position and the letters represent end-words:

1. ABCDEF
2. FAEBDC
3. CFDABE
4. ECBFAD
5. DEACFB
6. BDFECA
7. (envoi) ECA or ACE

The envoi must also include the remaining three end words, BDF, in the course of the three lines so that all six recurring words appear in the final three lines.

Still confused? No problem! Here's an example for ya:

Because this is a hard form, I've also linked here a website to help you get started: https://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Sestina

Prompt Two: Earth Day (Celebrated March 28th)
Another day celebrating the earth! For this one, since we did something similar already, please try making a Haiku! Typically a haiku has 17 syllables, arranged in three lines, first five syllables, then 7, then 5. Haiku are most commonly about nature, often containing a seasonal reference. They tend to contain two juxtaposed images or ideas.

Here's an example for all you lovely people:

Prompt Three: World Piano Day! (Celebrated March 28th)
More music, SWEET! This one is specifically about pianos, so hone that idea and write this poem as an Epigram. These poems are witty and short, great right?! Epigrams don't have to be poems, but they often are. They are short and witty, often satirical, and have a surprising and funny ending.

And an example just in case you need it:

Well, everyone... this is it! The final stretch! Send in those poems and I'll see ya on the next page ;)
