Prompt #2:  International Day of Forests (Villanelle)

Title: World Sleeps

A world sleeps in a little seed,

dreams of verdant earth and azure sky,

and life calling, calling, a tree is freed.

Some fall to earth in a bead

Some with wings will fly,

A world sleeps in a little seed.

First root, first leaf, take the lead

now tiny with promises to grow high,

and life calling, calling, a tree is freed.

Sapling to forest of trees from seeds,

winters, springs, summers, falls pass by,

A world sleeps in a little seed.

Year after year the forest proceeds,

rooted, branching, sheltering through wet and dry,

and life calling, calling, a tree is freed.

Trees rooted in earth to sun proceed,

give homes to multitudes bold and shy.

A world sleeps in a little seed, and life calling, calling, a tree is freed.
