I Like Salt

The title is an ironic one for me as I do not like to taste the salt in my food. To me, my food would be better off without salt or with just a little for my proper nutrient intake. But with all this said, why say I like salt? Simple, I am salt, as a matter of fact all Christians are salt as it says in Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth ... " In the same way we need salt as apart of our diet so do unsaved persons need 'salt' in their life and that salt is you. Use your knowledge of God and tell others about Him and also the great things He has done in your life.

Luke 14:34 says "Salt is good; but if the salt lost its flavour, how shall it be seasoned?" Their may be some Christians who you may have met during your lifetime before and/or after you became a Christian and you may have wondered to yourself, "Are they really Christians?" Even if you are an unbeliever reading this, you may have asked the same question. You may have said to yourself, "They say they are Christian, but they do not portray the qualities or characteristics of a Christian."

Let's imagine you went to a grocery store and bought and bag of salty chips or any salty snack. You pick up the snack off the shelf the package reads Salty Chips. You pay for it with the cash you just got from your after school job or from your parents. You go home and pick one of your favourite movies to watch. You set down the bag of Salty Chips beside you and you begin to munch on it but as you swallow you think to yourself that something is wrong so you try another chip but then you say No these chips are not salty at all. You get pretty upset as the package had said Salty Chips but your chips were not even salty much less near salty. You then inspect a few chips and you can see the salt crystals on it and you lick it just to make sure but ... still is does not taste salty. The salt has not done it's job to make your 'salty chips' salty. In the same way, persons proclaim they are Christian but they fail to do their job.

As Christians, we should not just say we are Christians, we should also be Christians as sometimes we are the only Jesus some people may see or experience. You may be ridiculed for just breathing a word that you are a Christian but imagine if you started behaving like one ... As I said in the early parts of this book we are outcasts - outsiders. We will never fit in or be accepted into society with the regular crowd and if you are like me, you'll be happy to hear that you'll never fit in. However if you want to fit in, then do this: tell others about Christ even the ones who criticize you, pray for them and make sure everything you do, you do it to the glory of God. Who knows, these same people who hated you because you are a Christian may even become one and possibly become your friend.

Go out there and be the salt of the earth. Do your job and add some flavour to the pot.
