Hue in the Sky

I remember when I was in primary school (equivalent to middle school in America) in the fifth grade, the sixth graders were studying for an exam that would determine which high school they would attend the following school year based on a list of schools they chose and how they performed in the exam.

My friend asked me if I wanted to accompany her to the sixth grade block so she could assist her friend (who was going to take the exam) to study. I went with her and ended up assisting as well. Afterwards it became a routine for us. We waited on each other to arrive at school then we'd head over together and help the sixth graders, asking them questions from textbooks and them answering the question.

When it came down to the month of the exam one of the sixth graders said to my friend and I that she would come back and help us to study for the exam when our time came the following school year to which her friends also agreed. They did they exams and passed for the schools of their choice.

My friend and I moved on to sixth grade and studied diligently. I remembered that promise my friend's friend had made however she never showed up and neither did her friends to help us to study. It was when I moved on to high school that I realized the great deal of work that high schoolers have to do so it would have been impossible for them to fulfill their promise even if they remembered.

On the contrary, when God makes promises to us He follows through with them. He never falters in what he says as he knows what tomorrow holds unlike man. God will not make promises that He knows will never come to pass. In the same way God promised Abraham and Sarah a baby and in the same way He promised He would save His people from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, it is the same way that God will carryout His promises to us.

The first promise that God made to one of His people was to Noah where He set a beautiful rainbow in the sky promising, "Whenever I cover the sky with with clouds and the rainbow appears, I will remember my promise to you and all the animals that a flood will never again destroy all living beings. When the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between man and all living beings on earth. That is the sign of the promise which I am making to all living beings." Genesis 9:14-17 (Good News Translation)

Let us be Christ like and not make promises we are not a hundred percent sure we will be able to fulfill. Do not make empty promises as I'm sure you would not want your Father in Heaven to do the same. Stand out and be known as the boy or girl, woman or man, who keeps their promise to others.
