A Drink of Water

* Song : In the Water by GAWVI *

I remember my little sister was at the front yard sweeping it. About ten minutes later she ran to the backyard telling my mother that the mad lady asked her for a drink of water. My mother said she could not give her any as she did not have anything to put the water in. My mother still seemed to have been thinking on the situation as she then stated out loud about five minutes later 'if I only had something to put the water in to give her or some juice.'

Suddenly my mother asked my sister if she didn't want to give her the water out of a bottle she had recently stopped using to which she nodded enthusiastically. So my mother told her to go ahead. After filling the bottle with some cool water my sister ran outside but my mother stopped her and told her not to let the lady's hand touch hers.

A few seconds later my brother poked his head through the backdoor and looked at my sister who was returning from the front and said to her, ' you really gave her water? I wouldn't have done it.'
To which I replied, 'because you have no heart.'

However what my mother said afterwards resonated with me. She said, 'She's a human being just like you not because she's mad.' However my brother's mind still not accepting, rejected what my mother said. She continued still, 'That's what God is going to use to judge you on Judgment Day. He's going to say to you, you saw me thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink.'

That last response was a hard hit. Just imagine you having the chance to give Jesus a drink of water but because He was not in the form you prefer you decided not to give Him a drink. You missed a chance to quench Jesus' thirst but also a chance to stand out from the crowd. You would have missed the chance to go against the norm of society and give someone who others avoided, just a drink of water.

In our daily lives we will come across people - those of a sound mind and those who aren't - who will need a drink of water. This water is not the literal one but a spiritual one. There will be times in our lives where we will need to sacrifice some of our time just to share the word of God with those who are thirsty and know it and those who are thirsty and don't know it. Some of these people may be the outcasts of society, the ones that people won't look on because they act differently or talk differently, dress or even laugh differently. Don't follow society and the behaviours of this world, instead reach out to that outcast of society and quench their thirst. Introduce them to the one that gave you water that will make you thirst no more.

What we should also remember when we are talking to people of this world; we should not let their worldly habits become apart of ours as we may have to be around them for awhile.

Before you venture out to do this, pray and ask God for direction and confidence.

There is something in the water ~ Eternal Life.

Matthew: 25

31. When the Son of Man comes as King and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne

32. and the people of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

33. He will put the righteous people on his right hand and the others on his left.

34. Then the King shall say to the people on his right, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world.

35. I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes,

36. naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.'

37. "Then the righteous will answer him 'When, Lord, did we ever seen you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink?

38. When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes or naked and clothe you?

39. When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?'

40. The King will reply, 'I tell you, whenever you did this to one of the least important of these members of my family, you did it for me!'

41. "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Away from me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which had been prepared for the the Devil and his angels!

42. I was hungry but you would not feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a drink;

43. I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of me.'

44. "Then they will answer him, 'When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stronger or naked or sick or in prison, and would not help you?'

45. The king will reply, 'I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me.'

46. These, then, will be sent off to eternal punishment, but the righteous will go to eternal life."
