Note: This is part two of two, so make sure you read the first part otherwise this won't make sense! And I must say, writing for a young Harry is so much fun.

- James' POV -
There was a knock at the door and the ever excitable Harry who was flying round on the broomstick his godfather bought him went straight to the door and opened it to reveal Remus. "Hey Harry!" He beamed at my son happily.
"Remus!" Harry jumped off of his broomstick and hugged Remus' leg, before dragging him inside.
"Hey Moony," I greeted my best friend and he smirked. "What?"
"You're all dressed up, you trying to impress?" He asked and I tried to stop my cheeks from heating up.
"No, there's just no harm in looking decent," I said, finishing buttoning up my shirt.
"I can't believe you're going on a date with (y/n) after all this time," Remus said and I rolled my eyes.
"It's not a date, it's just two friends catching up," I said with unintentional disappointment in my tone. " I don't doubt that she sees it that way too, I mean I- she's probably moved on, me and her were years ago after all," I said but somehow seeing her again after all this time sparked something inside of me. She was even more beautiful than I remembered her to be, she was so kind and playfully sweet with Harry. I had had difficulty getting her out of my mind, and it was driving me a little crazy but I was in deep denial. "Alright, I've got to go," I said, checking my watch. "I'll be a couple of hours," I kissed Harry's head and waved at the two of them as I left the house, apparating to a street near the coffee shop in London we had planned to go to.
As I walked down the street I spotted her waiting patiently outside in a summers dress, one I remember her having back in Hogwarts. The colour suited her perfectly, and it shaped her body well making her look even prettier- 'What am I thinking? Stop it James!' I tried repeating to myself as I approached her. "Hey," I announced my presence.
"Hello," she said with a sweet smile. "Shall we?" She gestured the cafe and I opened the door for her, feeling oddly satisfied at the slight flustered state she was in.
"So how are you?" I asked after we ordered our drinks, it having been a week since our encounter in the ministry.
"I've been okay," she said with a smile.
"I hope Harry didn't mess up your work to much that day," I said and she chuckled, shaking her head.
"I just had to put a few things back in order, but it didn't take me long. He seems like a curious kid," she said and I nodded.
"Yeah, he loves everything magical and can't wait to get his wand," I said, making sure we weren't overheard. A solemn look seemed to cast over (y/n)'s face, and for a moment I was worried that she didn't want to be here. "Er... (y/n)? Is everything okay?"
"I'm truly sorry about Lily, James," she said and I felt my heart tighten at the mention of my deceased wife's name. "Not only that but Sirius and Peter too... I spent ages wondering whether I should write to you and check you were okay but given how we had grown apart I wasn't sure you'd want to hear from me, particularly after how I treated you towards the end of Hogwarts, I just need you to know that I am sorry that they're gone, and I-,"
"(y/n)," I interrupted her rant by grabbing her hands that were rested on the table. "It's okay. Loosing the three of them was hard, and I still miss them but all that happened four years ago. I appreciate the fact that you were thinking of me, and I will admit that for the first year without them it was immensely hard, but Remus and Harry have helped me through it. And seeing you again has brought back happy memories from Hogwarts," I admitted and her eyes widened.
"It has?"
"Of course it has," I said with a reassuring smile. For a moment we sat in silence, our fingers tangled together until suddenly the waiter interrupted us causing us to break apart. We both said our thank yous and before turning our attention back to each other. "You know, I thought about writing to you many times over the years," I admitted, a look of surprise on her face.
"Really?"
"Yeah, but I wasn't sure you'd want to hear from me," I admitted.
"We did have a bit of a messy relationship towards the end of school, huh?" We both laughed lightly.
"Well anyway, I wanna hear what work is like for you. It must be a fascinating job," I said and she smiled, delving into her work. I listened, realising that I had missed the sound of her voice even in the week we had been apart. She spoke with such enthusiasm, just like I remembered back in Hogwarts when she spoke of joining the department in the hope to take care of magical creatures.
Before I knew it we were deep in conversation, not noticing how much time had passed. We caught up with the years we had spent apart, telling each other what we had been up to and now reminiscing on old Hogwarts memories. Neither of us had realised how long we had been sat in the cafe until the waiter came over to tell us they would be closing in ten minutes. "Here, let me pay," I said politely and before she could stop me I had handed the waiter the muggle money.
"You didn't have to do that," she pouted and I chuckled, helping her put her jacket back on.
"It was my pleasure. Maybe you can get them next time," I dared to suggest and she looked up at me, surprised.
"'Next time'?" She quoted and slight panic built up inside of me.
"Yeah... only if you want there to be a next time, obviously," I rubbed the back of my head and she laughed lightly.
"I'd like that."

I stirred the stew I was making for Harry, Remus, (y/n) and I, Remus having come over after a particularly bad full moon. I was humming one of my favourite songs, smiling stupidly as I wondered when I'd get to see (y/n) again. I only saw her the other day when she came over with a birthday gift for Harry, a small toy wand that shot sparks out the end but he hadn't let go of it since and had scared the cat plenty of times.
"You seem rather chipper," Remus said, stepping into the kitchen.
"Do I?"
"Ever since you've seen (y/n) again you've been acting this way," he said and I tried to prevent my cheeks from heating up.
"It's just good to see her again, that's all," I shrugged nonchalantly.
"Right, and it's not the fact your feelings for her are back?" Remus said, making me stop stirring.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, although I knew what he was going to say.
"James I've known you for over ten years, I can read you like a book. You've gotten so giddy and smiley recently, ever since you saw her at the ministry. The feelings you had for her in Hogwarts are back," Remus said. "You need to admit it, if not aloud then at least to yourself.
I let out a sigh and nodded. "You're right, I do like her," I finally said and Remus smiled. "I guess I'm just confused... I mean, Lily's still... she's still... but I- I don't know," I hid my head in my hands and Remus sighed.
"James, I don't think your feelings for Lily are ever going to go away, she was your wife after all. But she's... gone now and you can't let it affect your current life. You'll always be grieving for her, and that's natural, but now she's gone and you have these feelings for (y/n), I think you should act on them. Plus Harry seems to really like (y/n) too," Remus said and I nodded, knowing it was true.
"I do love her, (y/n) I mean, but I don't think I could ever forget about Lily," I said and Remus smiled.
"You don't have to forget about Lily, (y/n) knows that too. But you've got one hell of a chance to be happy with (y/n), and you have to take it James," he said, the thought of being with (y/n) making me smile.
"Would she even want to be with me? After what happened in Hogwarts, I mean," I pointed out and Remus shrugged.
"There's only one way to find out," Remus said, there suddenly being a knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" Harry shouted through the house. Remus raised an eyebrow teasingly and I smiled, nodding and deciding to do it. "(y/n)!" Harry's voice shouted from the hallway, Remus and I going to greet our final guest.
"Hi Harry! Hi everyone, sorry I'm late," she said, shifting slightly in the door.
"Don't worry, come on in," I took her coat off for her, Remus sending me a quick glance which I ignored. We all went through to the kitchen where dinner was about ready, (y/n) being dragged by Harry and forced to sit next to him but she just laughed along with him. Seeing my son be so fond of her made my feelings for her even stronger, and they were getting hard to ignore. I found myself staring at her as the four of us ate, (y/n) telling Remus about the updates of werewolf rights she's been making in her office.
"James... James?" Her voice shook me awake from my stare. "Are you alright? You seem a little... out of it," she said and I just chuckled.
"Nah, I'm fine," I said, deciding that I was going to tell her tonight. When everyone had finished she helped me with the washing up, before the four of us relaxed in the living room together, (y/n) playing with Harry on the floor and him showing her his latest tricks with his toy wand.
- (y/n)'s POV -
My thoughts were on James as I played with Harry, Remus watching from the armchair. He had initiated most of the get-togethers we had, but I didn't want to assume anything more than just two friends catching up no matter how often they happened. It was bad though, and I wondered whether I should stop seeing him as my feelings for him had returned, them feeling stronger than ever which wasn't very helpful. That was when I realised he had left the room and hadn't returned. "Remus, where'd James go?"
"To the garden I think, to get some fresh air. Why don't you go check on him?" Remus said in an oddly suggestive tone.
"Erm... okay, I suppose I could... I'll be right back Harry," I ruffled his jet black hair and went to find James who was indeed standing in the garden, hands in his pockets and staring up at the darkening sky. "James?"
"Oh, hey," he said with a sweet smile that always made my heart melt.
"Are you alright? Stood out here by yourself?" I asked carefully.
"Yeah I'm fine... actually there's something I've been meaning to tell you," he said and I froze, waiting with baited breath for him to carry on. "I'm so glad I almost ran into you at the ministry that day, because it's been so nice to see you again," he said and I couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "But there's another reason I'm glad I've become reacquainted with you." He gulped and reached out to take ahold of my hands, squeezing them gently. "We were so close in Hogwarts, I mean we were in love so of course we were but... well, since seeing you again the feelings I had for you back then have kind of... returned..."
"J-James-,"
"What I'm saying is that I'm in love with you (y/n)," he said confidently, looking into my (e/c) eyes. I was completely frozen, unsure whether this was a dream or not. After all these years of loving him, after him breaking my heart in Hogwarts, after him marrying someone else and having a child with them he finally comes to me and admits his love for me?
"B-but- in Hogwarts, you- I mean-,"
"I know, I broke up with you in Hogwarts but that was then and this is now," he said, stepping closer to me but I stepped back. "Do you not feel the same way?"
"This is all just a bit... overwhelming," I breathed, trying to process his feelings in my mind but having difficulty to. I rubbed my face with my hands, stepping back a little further but spotting a look of disappointment on James' face.
"You don't feel the same way, do you? It's okay, I know I had my chance back then and I screwed it up. Sorry if I've made you feel awkward," he said, looking down at the grass.
"I love you James," I said firmly and his head shot up to see seriousness written on my face.
"You do?"
"Yes, and I have done for ages. I just never thought you truly ever felt the same way about me, nor did I expect you to ever feel that way about me so I guess I'm just... a little shocked," I said awkwardly. He stepped closer to me and this time I didn't back away. I simply watched him as he brought a hand up to cup my cheek, his eyes quickly glancing down at my lips.
"(y/n), I love you," he whispered and it felt as though my heart had stopped beating.
"I-I love you too," I whispered back, him leaning in and our lips connecting in a long awaited kiss. My whole body felt warm and my eyes fluttered closed as our lips moved against each others, his arms wrapping around my body to hold me in place. I thought I was dreaming, that this all felt too perfect and I was terrified of waking up seconds later, but when that never happen it began to feel more and more real. His lips were warm and smooth, and the way he kissed was exactly how I remembered it: loving.
"Will you be mine?" He whispered when we briefly pulled apart and I nodded, smiling brightly. He let out a sigh of relief and a small chuckle before pulling me in for another, more passionate kiss that made it feel like he'd been holding back for a while. His hold on me was tight and I finally felt whole again.
"Dad! Dad!" Harry called and we immediately jumped apart as Harry ran out the back door to his father. "Remus cheated!"
"Sorry to interrupt guys, and I did not cheat," Remus said, coming round the corner.
"Yes you did!" Harry shouted.
"Please explain to me what's going on," James spoke to Remus but Harry got in there first.
"We were playing exploding snap and Remus cheated!" He exclaimed and Remus huffed.
"Just because I won doesn't mean I cheated-,"
"Yes it does!"
"No it doesn't!"
I couldn't help but giggle as James had to settle the argument happening between his five-year-old son and his twenty-five year old best friend. When it finally settled, Harry ran back inside whilst Remus stayed with us a moment longer. "So, are you two..." he raised an eyebrow at James who quickly took my hand in his.
"Yes, yes we are," James said confidently. "Aren't we?"
"Well you never actually asked me," I teased and he chuckled, pulling me in for another kiss. Remus excused himself as James continued to kiss me, and I had still not quite recovered form the first kiss or even his confession. My heart was beating erratically, my face felt hot and I still felt as though I was dreaming.
"So, (y/n), would you do the honour of letting me be your boyfriend?" He asked, bowing playfully and I chuckled, nodding.
"Of course James," I said happily, him pulling me in for another kiss. After all these years, after this painful feeling of love I never thought I'd actually be happy, but now I was back in James' arms as he kissed me gently yet romantically.

James and I had been together for a year now, so long that I had moved in with him and Harry. Harry loved me, and had even started calling me mum which I was scared James might not like him doing, but every time Harry said it it made James smile and watch me play with his son lovingly. It felt perfect, and I was happier than I ever thought I could be.
One afternoon I had some time off of work and decided to get a little bit of the housework done, so I brought up some dried laundry to mine and James' bedroom ready to put it away. Unsurprisingly, when I opened James' sock drawer, it was an utter mess so I spent a moment organising it for him, putting his socks into pairs until I came across one that seemed to have something inside of it. I furrowed my eyebrows at the square object and reached into the sock to pull it out, to see it was a small jewellery box. Curiosity got the better of me and I gently opened the velvet box to see a golden engagement ring with a clear diamond sat on it.
With my breath caught in my throat I gently lifted it from the box and noticed there was some engraved writing on the inside of the ring. It was small but I was just about able to read it, and when I saw what it said a small smile came to my face. 'Lily, I'll love you forever'. I was holding the engagement ring James had given to Lily all those years ago.
"You found it, then," James' voice scared me, making me jump and whirl around quickly to see him standing in the doorway to our bedroom.
"I-I did... but I didn't mean to, I was just about to put some laundry away and I found it in a sock," I explained and he let out a chuckle.
"I'm sorry (y/n)," he whispered, biting his lip.
"'Sorry', what for?" I asked.
"Aren't you mad? Me still clinging onto the engagement ring I gave her?" He asked carefully and I shook my head.
"Of course I'm not mad," I said softly, but his eyes remained on the ring I was holding. "James, I know you still have feelings for her," I added and his head shot up to look at me, apparently surprised.
"W-what?"
"It's okay, I'd be surprised if you didn't. She's always going to be in your heart because you loved her so much as she was taken from you so cruelly and so unexpectedly. Honestly, I don't blame you at all for keeping this ring at all. In fact, I would've wanted you to keep it," I said, slight tears coming to my eyes.
"(y/n)..."
"She's forever going to have a place in your heart James and that's okay, you don't ever need to apologise for that," I assured him, tears falling freely from his eyes.
"You know, I did love her, a lot, yet somehow I've come to love you even more," he whispered, putting the ring back in its box. "I'm just scared of loosing you like I lost her... I love you so much (y/n), more than I thought I could love anyone," his lip was trembling as he spoke, apparently trying to keep his composure. "I'm terrified of something happening-,"
"Nothing's going to happen to me James, I'm always going to be here for you and that's a promise," I cupped his cheeks and wiped away his tears. "It's a beautiful ring," I praised and he let out a breathy laugh.
"Yeah," he put the ring back in it's sock and shut the sock drawer. "But y'know..." he took my hand and pulled me from our room down to the garden. "I seriously hope you prefer this ring," he pulled a red velvet box from his trouser pocket and my heart stopped beating. "We had our first kiss since Hogwarts in this very spot, just over a year ago, and god that was an amazing night. Finding out you loved me as much as I loved you was just a dream come true, but I now have a new dream... to make you a Potter," he leant down on one knee and opened the box, a hopeful smile on his face.
He was right, I did prefer this ring, it was truly stunning and my heart was finding it difficult to take. "J-James," I had to bite my lip to stops tears falling.
"I love you (y/n), more than anything in this world... apart from Harry," he said and I couldn't help but laugh. "You're the girl of my dreams... please let me marry you."
"Yes!" I cried out, nodding frantically. He immediately stood up and wrapped his arms around me, picking me up and twirling me around. "Yes James, of course I'll marry you," I mumbled into his neck as I held onto him tightly.
"I love you (y/n), so much," he whispered, putting me down and brushing some of my hair out of my face. "Here," he took the ring from the box and slipped it onto my ring finger. "It looks perfect."
"It feels perfect," I leant up and kissed my future husband happily, him reciprocating the kiss straight away, us both living a happily ever after story.
