Remus// Bad friend?
"Remus is smiling at you again." Lily nods to the Gryffindor.
"Nah he's not." I deny but I try to hide a blush.
It may come as a surprise that I'm good friends with Lily Evans but she's lovely and like Remus, she doesn't discriminate if you're not in Gryffindor. I met Remus first and he introduced me to the other Marauders: James, Sirius and Peter. Lily is good friends with the Marauders too so I met her when I met them. Before I started hanging around with the Marauders and Lily I had no friends. So I'm really happy I have people now.
"You're blushing!" Lily squeals.
I tug Lily's ginger hair, "Shut it." I mutter.
"Ow." She smiles, "He's staring too." Lily adds.
I scoff. Me and Remus are just friends. Remus now looks back at his friends as I shake my head. He couldn't like me like that. Not that I like Remus like that! Despite what Lily would claim.
"Remus was looking at you." I try to argue, "You've been friends with him longer than me so he's looking at you."
"You two aren't just friends." Lily argues back, "Friends don't look at each other like you two do."
"I said, shut up Lily!" I snap shouting.
"Hey!" James yells over, "What's happening?"
Great just my luck: James, Sirius, Peter and Remus are now walking over. James has a frown, Sirius is curious, Peter looks blank and Remus has a concerned face.
"Sorry Lily." I pause panicking, "I'm not good at the whole friends thing, nevermind more than that." I apologise.
I then run off before Lily can reply and before the Marauders can get to us.
------
"Hey." Remus greets simply.
"Oh, hi Remus." I say quietly.
I don't look up I just continue to fiddle with my fingers. Currently, I'm sat on the grass by the Forbidden Forest. Alone. Just like I'm used to.
"Mind if I join you?"
"Go ahead."
Remus plonks himself down next to me. Very close. I don't say anything and neither does he. I don't move and neither does Remus.
"So, what happened earlier?" Remus asks the dreaded question.
"I'm not a good friend, Rem." I sigh sadly, "Lily was just trying to be nice and I snapped because I didn't want to get my hopes up about something." I pause, "I apologised to her afterwards."
Remus for some odd unknown reason only allows me to call him Rem. No one else can, just Remus unless you're a Marauder so you can call him Moony.
"You apologised so that's something." Remus starts diplomatically, "But you're not a bad friend. You're a great friend." Remus compliments.
"I'm not."
"You are. New maybe, but still good."
"Sure Rem."
"Oh, what didn't you want to get your hopes up for?" Remus asks the second dreaded question.
"Uh," I pause, "Well, you see, um, that I-"
I stop mid sentence and look towards the Forbidden Forest where something rustles. It happens again and without knowing I grabbed Remus' arm and is clutching it. I immediately blush. I can feel it. Fuck sake.
"What's wrong?" Remus asks protectively putting his hand on my knee.
"I thought I saw something in the Forbidden Forest." I try to remember the silhouette, "A deer perhaps? Oh and a massive dog, like a bear!" I exclaim.
Remus' face twists into one of annoyance.
"I didn't want an audience." Remus whispers angrily but I heard him.
"Huh?"
"Let's just get inside eh? It's cold and you have no jacket." Remus suggests.
"That works." I shrug getting up.
We then walk towards the Hogwarts castle with Remus occasionally throwing a dirty look towards the Forbidden Forest.
This is probably trash but it's my first time writing for Remus romantically, even if there wasn't really any/ much romance.
