Oxfords Not Brogues!!!!!
Flashback seven years ago....
The mission was supposed to be a simple one.
Apprehend the leader of the terrorist group; then defuse the bomb that they were hiding in the ruins that they were compromised in...
Who would have guessed that the leader would be hiding the package on his person....
If only Agent Galahad, one Shobai Hasimoto, had seen it sooner, they wouldn't have lost their valuable agent Percival... who was also his dearest friend in the agency...
Kenjiro Naegi... a brave and selfless man....
Name: Shobai Hashimoto
Occupation: Agent Galahad of Japan's Kingsman and Statesman; Former Ultimate Dealer (Hope's Peak Academy Alumnus)
Age (at the time): 18
Shobai sighed to himself as he lamented to himself over the loss of his comrade. Not only that he has to be the one to break it to the Kenshiro's wife.....
"This is gonna suck..." Shobai thought to himself as he approached the Naegi household.
As he approached the door, he reached into the pocket of his pale suit and pulled out the Kingsman's medal of valor.
Shobai sighed go himself looking up at the sky, as if he could see his fallen comrade from where he stood. "I only wish I could do more, if not avoid what is about to happen here..."
Then he politely knocked on the door and waited for Shizuka Naegi to answer it.
"I'm gonna need a drink after this," the young agent thought to himself as the missus answered the door. "Hope Agent Champagne has the good bourbon on hand... maybe I should call him up...."
Timeskip to an hour later.....
It was as Shobai was dreading yet fully expected.
The woman broke down crying as he informed Shizuka of her husband's fate.
In the living room as Shobai and Shizuka talked, two children, two girls, one being the elder one at five years old, and the second girl just three years old, were playing together.
Though the older girl, one Makoto Naegi, could sense something wrong in the atmosphere. Despite being so young she was quite perceptive for her age, which had both baffled and impressed many adults that crossed paths with her, even her own father and mother.
Regardless, when her little sister began to fuss as the silver haired man conversed with his mother at the other end of the room, she took it upon herself to distract her little sister, Komaru, even as her mother began crying.
She had a feeling that this had something to do with her dad. She knew something was odd as her father would leave the house with only vague details of what he was doing to both her and her mother. But since she knew her dad loved her family, she never suspected that he would cheat on her mother (don't ask how she knows about that kind of stuff.... that's a story for another time...). And no matter what, her father always came back to them, sometimes bringing gifts and even souvenirs of many sorts for both her, his mom, and for Komaru (some for when she got older that is).
However, Makoto had a sinking feeling that this time, her old man isn't coming back....
As her precocious mind swam in circles as she tried to process this, the silver haired man, Shobai, approached her, kneeling down to her level.
Makoto turned her desaturated green eyes to the gentleman. While she sensed something akin to Danger from him, she knew that he posed no threat or ill will to either her nor Komaru.
"Hey there, kiddo." He greeted her, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "She may have her mother's look, she inherited her old man's instinct and valor. Both of which is highly sought after in both Kingsman and our sister organization the Statesman." Shobai thought as he observed the daughter of his late colleague. "Though if she were to try out for either organization, she may be faced with some discrimination from others as she is a girl, whether they be auditioning for a position or be it some of the old so-called 'traditional' senior agents. Though that idea is getting outdated what with more female agents entering the field...."
"Hey there, kiddo." He spoke to her in a normal tone, not talking down to her.
"Hi," she responded cordially, keeping her responses short and to the point. Good. Meaning that Shobai can go straight to business, instead of beating around the bush.
"I'll cut to the point here, kiddo. You're dad.... isn't coming back..."
She nodded solemnly as she guessed so beforehand. Taking it as a sign to continue, Shobai pressed on bringing out the medallion shown earlier to Makoto's mother.
"This is a medal of valor. Your father would want you to have it." He pressed it into the young girl's hand, letting her look at it and turn the medal over to see a series of numbers engraved on the back. Tilting her head to get a better look she asked, "Is this some sort of phone number?"
Impressed that she caught on to that detail quickly, Shobai nodded. "Not bad, little lady. Just remember, if you are in any trouble, just contact that number, and remember to say 'Oxfords, not Brogues' when you do. Don't ask why, just remember to say that. Got it?"
She nodded. Shobai gave a curt nod. "Good." He then ruffled the girl's hair. "Be sure to take care of your mother and your sister, okay? They are both counting on you now that your father isn't here."
Makoto looked him in the eye with that of an adult than a mere child as she answered him. "I won't fail. For my father, I will be the 'man' of the house."
That declaration made Shobai quirk an eyebrow as he suddenly had the mental image of the girl in front of him wearing a suit instead of a dress and acting in the behavior befitting of a gentleman rather than a lady. He then took his leave, reporting back to Arthur that he had completed his job. As he traveled down the street in his fancy car provided by his employer, his thoughts drifted to the daughter of Kenshiro. There was no doubt in the silver-haired man's mind that she would be a great agent in Kingsman and Statesman if she chooses to follow her dad's footsteps.
From that time on, Makoto devoted the vast majority of her time to helping her mother and taking care of her little sister Komaru when she can't. Even though her father left behind a vast wealth in his untimely departure for the family as per his will, Shizuka Naegi decided to move back in with her father, one Reiji Naegi, who was a lawyer back in his prime before he retired. He welcomed his daughter and his grandchildren with open arms, though he was saddened that this was no happy occasion as Shizuka told him how Kenjiro had passed away. While he is happy he gets to spend time with his grandchildren, he wished it be a happier occasion.
Of course that gave Makoto no excuse to slack off on her schoolwork even as she started middle school. Thankfully her book smarts are nothing to sneeze at, as she is a rather bright child even back in kindergarten. Even though she was given offers to jump a grade she always turned them down. When asked, she always answered with "It just never feels right." While Reiji was impressed by his granddaughter's intelligence and drive to help her family, he hoped that the oldest sibling wasn't "growing up too fast" as she should enjoy her life as any other child should. He also noted that she wore the medallion that Shobai gifted her with and he often saw her staring at it while running a hand over it, usually indicating that she either had a rough day or she is having a confict. She also never took the medallion off, even to bed, despite his warnings that she could choke herself in her sleep if she does that. But like her father, she was much too stubborn to do so, making the older man give up on the matter at some point in time.
Reiji was also happy that his oldest granddaughter had been maturing into the young lady she is becoming; his heart always felt warm when she helped her younger sister, whether it be a hard homework assignment or she is just having "girl trouble" Makoto was always there for Komaru with a solution at the ready. Komaru even began looking up to Makoto, as she became a beacon of hope in her life even when their mother is "having a rough time," as their grandfather puts it. Regardless, they still loved each other and they never held it against Shizuka, as she never done anything to hurt them, and the therapy sessions have been helping her more and more, even if she can't get over how her husband passed away.
Unfortunately, despite his granddaughter's intelligent disposition, as the years rolled by Makoto developed something that made her a magnet for trouble. Some say she has a serious bad luck streak and it always knew where to find her and stir up trouble.
Like now for instance.
The day started off normal as usual. Makoto got up and dressed in her middle school uniform, even if it is the last week of school, and she has to look into what high schools she wants to attend. After making sure her mother had taken her daily medication and Komaru had already gone ahead to school with a few of her friends, Makoto left the house with a shout of farewell to her grandfather with a piece of toast hanging from her mouth as she proceeded to board the public transit bus that took her to Blackroot Junior High.
Only this time, she was in for a string of crazy events.
Turns out, during one of the stops to pick up passengers, a thief that had been trying to dodge the police after robbing bank decided to highjack the bus and hold everyone inside hostage, even holding the oldest Naegi girl at gunpoint as she was unfortunately the closest victim to the thief within reach.
Just her luck.
While she was scared witless especially with a gun to her head, the mental image of her mother falling into despair as she lost another member of her family became her driving force as she suddenly attacked the person holding her, one Jutaro Akafuku, who had also knocked out the bus driver, and managed to land a hit on his groin, making him let go of the steering wheel as he tried to salvage his family jewels. Which gave Makoto the opening to swipe his gun and hit him upside the head with the butt of it, knocking him out.
While it did help that she more or less apprehended the thief, there was still one problem: nobody is at the wheel. Taking it into her hands, she yelled in fright as she barely dodged some pedestrians that had leapt out of the way of the runaway bus as she made a hairpin turn. She yelled for someone to grab the wheel as her legs were too short to reach the brake and she had no idea where the emergency brake was located as she had yet to take driving lessons. Thankfully, their was a senior citizen that had beforehand experience with driving a bus so he quickly took over while Makoto retrieved her school bag that she dropped when the bank robber held her hostage.
She fumbled for her phone, which Reiji gifted her with a few months back as a reward for her good grades on her recent report card, before she unlocked it and, by sheer instinct, punched in the numbers that were engraved on the back of her medallion as well as her mind.
As soon as the first ring was heard through her phone, someone picked up. "Customer complaints, how may I help you?"
While the phrase threw her off, the adrenaline and the fear coursing through her veins made her respond as insrtucted by Shobai, even though it had been many years ago. "Oxfords, not Brogues!!"
She felt a wave of relief when the person from the receiver responded almost immediately. "Your complaint has been noted and we hope you enjoy your day!"
With that the call ended, making Makoto put away her phone and just in time to see the person now handling the bus looking pale as a sheet and one of his hands clutching his chest. She instantly recognized the way part of his face is drooping and his slurred speech as he tried to call out to someone as a heart attack.
"That guy is having a heart attack!" she called out to the other passengers as she dashed back over to catch the man as he fell out of the driver's seat. She spied a AED kit above one of the passengers. Even with a man in her arms, she knew that she wouldn't be able to reach it. Fortunately, the bus hit a bump on the road, and just her luck, the kit fell out of it's holder, even though it hit the head of the passenger that was standing beneath it. Since she had an idea how to use it, she called out to the other passengers to see if they can take over driving. Thankfully, another passenger, this one younger than the senior citizen, said he did and promptly took over driving, allowing her to grab the AED kit (while muttering a quick apology to the one who got konked on the head by said kit), and had the older man postioned on the bus floor before she opened up the kit and followed the instructions on it. After she yelled clear, she delivered a few shocks to the older man's system. While she kept her attention on the senior citizen, the civilian who was now driving the bus decided to head the bus to the nearest police station, as most of the passengers' phones were taken by the bank robber (with the exception of Makoto). Just as the elderly man's eyes opened, they have safely arrived, and to her and everyone else's surprise the police were outside the building and ready. As soon as they pulled in, the cops came in and apprehended the thief as he had just regained consciousness and, upon seeing Makoto, tried to attack her. Thankfully, one of the policemen saw this and quickly Tased him before he could touch her. Makoto then informed the policeman that the man who suffered a heart attack needed medical attention, which prompted them to call in the paramedics that were also waiting outside while the police took statements from the civilians that didn't get hurt.
With the thief apprehended, and the bus driver and the old man that had a heart attack taken to the hospital, Makoto felt that she could finally breathe, though she knew she wasn't out of the woods yet. The second this gets back to her grandpa and her mom, she was gonna get an earful. And that's not factoring in her mother's hysteria and her little sister's anxiety as both are quite protective of her, even if it is different in their own way.
While she waited for someone to pick her up after the police let her go after she gave her statement, she fiddled with her medallion's pendant, as per her habit when she feels nervous. Her head snapped up when she saw the doors open and she immediately recognized the face of the man who had visited her family all those years ago. And he seemed to recognize her, as he blinked as he took in her appearance before his eyes zeroed in on the medallion around her neck.
"So it really was you, huh." Shobai stated rather than asked, making her nod.
With that, they were given a private room to talk in, which Makoto was surprised they let happen, so she figured Shobai had some sort of influence in the police station.
"So," Shobai spoke. "I see you have grown some, even if you are a bit on the small side." That made her puff her cheeks out indignantly. It's not her fault that she is tiny. While she got some of her "nadeshiko" features from her mother, she unfortunately did not get her father's height, making her a target for some bullies thinking that because she is a "pipsqueak" she wouldn't be able to kick their ass easily.
"But let's not watse time on the pleasantries." Shobai leaned forward. "On those bus cameras, I saw the way you handled that thief and the quick thinking you did when you grabbed that AED kit despite having no prior experience using one." Makoto froze at that. She's not gonna get in trouble for that, is she? Sure she saved that old man's life before the EMT's took him away, but not knowing how to use those AED's and yet still attempt at using them could lead to more harm than good.
"Don't worry," Shobai saw her expression and pieced together what she was thinking. "You are not in any trouble, even what you did was a bit reckless. But you did save a whole bunch of lives with your quick thinking."
"Personally," Makoto decided to speak up, "I think I was just lucky at that time. If it weren't for that kit falling down when it did, that man would have more than likely died..."
"But he didn't," Shobai's tone offered no argument, making Makoto shut her mouth. "And thanks to you, the authorities now have the bank robber known as Jutaro Akafuku in their custody, and they thank you for it. Which reminds me, expect a reward for his capture to come your way."
Makoto shook her head, "There is no need for that! I was only doing what is right! Even if it did put me in danger!"
As she rambled, she didn't notice Shobai smiling to himself as the image of Makoto disappeared and it was replaced by a younger version of Kenjiro, when the two of them first started out as trainees in Kingsman. She is just like her father, even if she has some of her mother's looks.
"Even so," Shobai cut her off, "There is no other way around it. You did the community a service and with that you are to be rewarded in the public's eyes. But that's not why I'm here."
This got Makoto's attention as she put aside the matter of the whole incident aside.
Seeing that he has her undivided attention, Shobai decided to go ahead and drop the bombshell. "After seeing you in action, I decided I should be the one to make you this offer."
Makoto leaned forward in some unknown form of anticipation as the next sentence and what followed after changed her course of life.
"How would you like to become a member of Kingsman?"
AAAAANNNNNDDDD SCENE!!
Since I'm a very big fan of Kingsman and cannot wait until I can finally watch The King's Man, this idea was circulating in the back of my head for a good while. At first I was gonna have this be a canon Makoto Naegi, but then decided since their is a lack of genderbend Naegi stories and on top of that a lack of yuri harem fanfics (that doesn't involve the whole futa thing) I figured, "Screw it." So here we are. As usual, I hoped you enjoyed this prologue!
This the ArtVampire signing off!
