~part 6~
"Just for that reason?" I asked, startled at this intriguing but sad story.
"Yep, I'm still Tunisha's friend but Roshni can't stand even saying her name."
"And despite this you really think we should go to her party?!" I hung my face in gullibility.
"To be honest, I have to tell you something Reem."
"Yeah ..."
"Everyone in this college is two faced; the people who you think are nice could be the ones plotting behind your back, there are people you stab you and then ask you why you're bleeding." Jannat seemed hesitant.
"I know these people exist, but shouldn't we be nice to them anyway? Because after all - you should be nice to them, not because they're nice, because you're nice."
Jannat turned and smiled at me warmly.
"Unfortunately this simple talk doesn't apply anymore - look what's become of everyone, so tangled up in boys and relationships, that's all that seems to matter nowadays."
I shuffled my feet at this.
"What kind of guy is Sidd?"
Jannat thinned her eyebrows in confusion and stared at me for a bit.
It then struck me why she seemed so surprised.
There was this beautiful innocent conversation about the world literally two seconds ago and suddenly - BAM: Sidd comes outta nowhere and I just stand here looking embarrassed.
"He's ..... a sweetheart. He really is, and when you get to know him - he may not be the best at being in the good books of Professor Smith but he's a real smarty pants and he's amazing."
We both laughed.
"And.... this girl Tunisha - I don't even know what she looks like." I questioned.
"Well, she is a diva - beautiful hair, radiant skin and all the things any girl would want.
Actually, she kind of looks like you. You don't look too bad yourself."
"Thanks." I replied.
"Thanks? It should rather be 'oh no'!"
"Huh?" I almost smirked at this.
"That just means you're going to be in competition."
I rolled my eyes while putting on my thick cashmere coat.
"Competition competition competition! That's all I've been hearing ever since I came here. I don't want to be compared with anyone and I wish it would stop!" I sighed.
"It doesn't work like that unfortunately babes."
"I know it doesn't; it should."
"Anyways, what are you wearing to the party, and one advice: don't wear anything too old fashioned. Tunisha likes girls who are cool."
Jannat sounded as if Tunisha was some princess and I somehow felt anxious about my appearance to the party. She did seem like one heck of a model.
I was tall and slim, my skin smooth and nice and the amount of makeup I put on was minimal.
I put on a cute black mini dress which reached my thighs and fluttered around when I spun, with the white heels.
💓
"You look gorgeous!" Jannat hugged me as we both proceeded down to the valet parking where a Rolls Royce awaited for us. The wind blew back our hair and sent shivers down the spine.
It was meant to be a fun party, however I somehow felt like it was a party to show off and drink - but, I didn't drink alcohol.
I did not want to feel like an outcast again.
💓
By the time we reached the venue, the sky had already been jet black.
The door was grand, welcoming us to a crowd of young girls and boys all dancing around, having fun and eating and laughing with each other.
No drinks.
Wait a minute - no drinks!
How can such a popular girl have no drinks at her party?
I looked around to see if I could spot Tunisha and Jannat went off to meet some of her other friends.
I was left in the middle, just when I spotted Sumedh talking to someone who I couldn't see because of a tall dude in front of me.
He was the only person I could recognize so I went over.
"Hey Sumedh!"
"Oh hi Reem! Tunisha, meet Reem, the new girl."
The guy left and revealed a magnificent sight behind him. A girl with perfectly placed dimples and long silky hair which was straightened and had a beautiful shape, was talking to Sumedh with dreamy eyes that glistened because of the disco ball lights.
I was mesmerized. So this was Tunisha. The most popular girl.
She turned to look at me and her look of confusion changed to a heart warming smile and she hugged me sweetly.
"Hi Reem! I'm Tunisha Sharma and this is my crazy friend, Sumedh." Her voice was sweet and high pitched.
Sumedh wrapped a hand around her lower half.
I felt welcomed by her instantly.
"Oh hey! I've heard a lot about you." Maybe I shouldn't have said that.
"Haha, come - want anything to drink or something?" Her smile was still plastered across her face.
"Er, no I'm fine thank you. Here's a small gift." I handed her a bouquet of flowers which she accepted gratefully.
Despite what Jannat had told me about her, she seemed to not over-do the 'fake happiness' as maybe it wasn't fake at all, maybe she was genuinely nice.
And anyway, being popular doesn't mean you have to be impolite and mean by law, does it?
I went off with her to meet a few of her friends.
💓
I was having a great time, grooving and jiving to some of my favorite singers: Olly Murs and Ariana Grande.
There was no track of time, and before I knew it the party had come to a close.
Lots of people had left, but me and Jannat stayed behind for a while for a chat with Sumedh and Tunisha.
"So, how are you finding it in this new place?" She asked me.
"It's good I guess, I don't know many people just yet."
"Aha, you will slowly don't worry - it's difficult when the world's changed so much now, nowadays it's just boys and relationships isn't it?" She laughed slightly.
That's what I had been told by Jannat.
I found so many similarities between me and Tunisha and I felt included.
"Which dorm room are you in?"
"I'm in 352."
Her smile faded. "So you're with Roshni?"
"Hmm," the atmosphere went tense suddenly.
Jannat stiffened and looked at her watch, unsure of what to do.
"She's a nice girl, when you get to know her."
As soon as she said this, I choked on my glass of water. I thought there were differences between them.
"Oh err, you know her?" *cough*
"You okay?" She asked me.
"Yeah...."
"Oh - I know Roshni. We used to be really good friends but...."
"Anyways Tunnu, thanks for the party - we'll get going now!"
Jannat hugged her and we left her.
On the ride back home, I was thinking at this controversy between the reactions of both of them to the situation that Jannat had narrated.
Suddenly, Jannat's words sparked in my brain.
"Everyone is two faced; people stab you and then ask you why you're bleeding."
