~part 33~

"Faisal. Hi. Listen. I - I don't know how to tell you but.... we need to talk." I hung up quickly as Sidd came over, looking exceedingly neutral and didn't show signs of remembering any of last night's incident.

"Alright Reem, thanks for having me. I'll be off." He smiled and fetched his car keys, driving off. I didn't stop him.

Faisal arrived soon enough when I was walking here and there, anxious and twiddling my fingers in the anticipation. As soon as I saw him coming up the three steps into my living room I rushed to him without even a decent greeting.

"He did it. He's the culprit. He is the one." I panted, not even realizing that Faisal was trying to calm me down by gripping my arms.

"Reem .... what -"

"NO HE DID IT!"

"REEM!" He screamed.

I shouted and shortened down, letting him shake me a bit out of my trance. I looked away from his eyes.

"Listen to me. What happened? Tell me." He insisted.

His face tightened as he interpreted my silence.

"You didn't - you didn't sleep with h...."

"No!" I said quickly, wanting to clear his misconception.

"We never got anywhere near that far."

He calmed down and sighed with relief.

"He murdered Avneet." I said softly, looking back at him.

"We still need proof - this can't be right." I began quickly.

"What other proof? What's not right?" Faisal smirked sarcastically.

"If the culprit himself gave in then what more do we need? Siddharth is the murderer. He's guilty." He declared with a low growl deep within his throat.

"But...."

"Don't be repetitive, Reem. We need to hold a trial instantly. Like - now. Call Avneet. Tell her to come to the central police head quarters before going to the court. It's time to see who the real culprit is." He walked away.

I narrowed my eyes. He knew the real culprit is Sidd, so why did he say that? Oh well, formalities are a must.

💕

"Mr Khan. The court requests you to submit your evidence." The adjudicator commenced the trial, with Avneet on one side and Sidd on the other, who looked strangely calm. Well why wouldn't he; he had so easily told me the truth while we were about to make out.....

Faisal sat in the audience, and to my surprise, Sidd didn't have a lawyer. It made it easier for us to win the case anyway, who cared?! My sparked love for him - okay yeah. I admit I used to have feelings for him; but not anymore. This murderer murdered the soft spot I had for him in my heart.

"The culprit is innocent until proven guilty, My Lord." Faisal said with a smile, lifting his head up proudly. Everyone frowned. What was he saying? Can't he not talk in riddles for once?

I sat in the audience, almost widening my eyes at him, as he had not even taken Sidd's name even once.

Avneet looked hesitant but did her best. I gave her a thumbs up and she smiled weakly.

"So Miss Karina (Avneet's lawyer), would you like to debate on this topic.

"Debate? I have far more things than that, My Lord. This man has been involved in family drug history since ages! It is highly likely that he has once again been on a mission. In fact, I have a CCTV footage of him caught in the factory that was raised 28 times over the last decade." The footage appeared on the screen.

It consisted of Sidd wearing a black hooded cloak, and it almost reminded me of Abhishek and that painful day.

The figure looked to his sides, and carefully laid his foot upon the fragmented terrain scarred from the bullets that had been fired during multiple historical raids in the factory. The ends of his hair fluttered in the wind as he ran off with a cable that had keys attached near them, and unlocked secret doors; pulling out bags of all sorts and checking his surroundings again, before escaping out of the footage.

*clip ends*

I gulped.

"You see, my lord - I don't think there can be any more stronger evidence than this, as this where our foundation lays. His cloak had been left behind there, and by a DNA test we had successfully identified multiple hair strands woven into the fabric." Karina snapped before shooting Sidd a harsh glare. He pursed his lips into a smile and looked towards the ground.

I sighed and wished Faisal would contribute something to support Karina's point. Avneet looked from them with painful eyes and twiddled her thumb.

"My lord. Karina is absolutely correct. This is the correct footage which matches with the time and location." Faisal added.

Karina turned to him, and then to Sidd.

"Is this true, Mr Nigam? We wish to hear from your own mouth." She walked over to him with her hands behind her back and cocked an eyebrow.

"Yes. I confirm it is true." Sidd took no time in saying.

There was gossiping amongst the audience.

"Requesting silence!" The judge snapped.

The whispering died down. "So there we have it. This was a rather short trial with not much enthusiasm or wish to cover up the truth from Mr Nigam's side. Maybe he has realized his mistake after all." The judge announced.

That's it. Avneet had won.

She sighed in relief, and everyone was just about to resettle when:

"My lord." Faisal stood up which made everyone sit back down. The judge sat down half way through getting up.

"Yes?" He looked down through the glasses resting on his pointy nose.

"I'm sure you will understand now." He smiled.

The judge frowned. "May I ask what you mean?"

"Just what you may be thinking."

We all exchanged glances and Sidd stood extremely still.

"Avneet is the culprit."

My jaw dropped.............

Hi guys! Sorry for the rather late update. Can anyone guess what may have happened?! All the details will be revealed in the next chapter :)
