~part 29~

I glanced at my watch in a hurry, rushing through the passages of Sidd's house, carrying a file filled with papers pressing against my chest that was surrounded by my blazer which covered my shoulders.

"Hello? Avneet? Yeah - I'll be right there."

I walked past Sidd who watched me go and began saying something but I just carried on.

I felt mean but trust me, time wasn't on my side. My phone rang.

"Faisal? Can you call back later? I'm visiting a client." I hung up so suddenly that I cut the call during Faisal's talk.

As my car drove off and slowly came to a close in front of a house, I looked around very surprised.

"Why have you brought me to Oaks Road?" I asked the driver angrily, realizing that this was Tunisha's house that had been shut down after the raid and her arrest.

"Madam, this is address you gave me." He said, showing me the text message that had the address Avneet had texted me, which I gave him for directions.

I rolled my eyes and got out hurriedly.

Just then, out of the distance, I saw a small figure swerve round a corner gate of the house and smile. She waved but I just watched her.

As we met in the middle of our paths I realized she was Avneet.

"Ahh, hi!" She said, with an enthusiastic tone.

"Hi." I replied blandly.

"Hey, what's up?" She asked in a friendly manner.

"Oh, nothing...?! I'm just - thinking about this case." I replied surprisingly.

"Oh okay. Shall we go in?" She pointed towards the house.

I watched her finger hover in the air and then quickly turn itself towards a small cafe, from the house.

"No, not that cafe...." I said, watching it in horror.

"Why?" She chuckled.

"They have slee..... nothing!" I realized what I was saying.

"Then, let's just sit in the car."

"Alright."

"So Avneet.... before you tell me more about Vishal, can you please tell me some details about this house?" I looked at her suspiciously.

She gulped and began.

"Okay. But these are private."

I nodded understandingly.

"My friend once lived here. Her father owned a terrible business and she vowed to revenge the death of him on his son, Sidd."

Inside my head, I couldn't possibly workout how she got such clear details. If Tunisha was her friend, when did she have time to tell her all this and why? Why was she sharing information that she would be killing Sidd? Wouldn't Avneet then inform the police?

I remained quiet however a hundred thoughts were present in my mind.

"Anyways, back to my case now." Avneet said hurriedly.

"She's your friend...." I said suspiciously.

"So, as I was saying..." she began.

"Yes?"

"Sidd kidnapped Abhishek because Abhishek was about to reveal the drug business and -"

"Woah woah woah. Hold on. I was told that Sidd was about to reveal the drug business himself, so..."

Avneet rolled her eyes.

"He was lying!"

"How can he lie and declare at the same time, knowing the police would take some action?"

"I don't know. I just know the truth." She said adamantly.

"Alright. Thank you. I'll have a word with... myself. In the shower." I smiled widely, trying to appear interested.

💓

"So she says I was going to reveal the drug business ay? I would like to meet her parents. Maybe they didn't teach her any better than to tell lies."

"Sidd - look, I know you may be honest but I've got to look at this from both sides and - she has strictly told me not to share this information so please keep control on your tongue."

"Me? Control?" He smirked. "My control is very strong. Maybe my control is the cause for your confusion and lack of knowledge on the situation." He came up close and spat.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

He ran a hand through his hair and went over to the table to pick up his laptop.

I just stood watching him.

He looked and sighed.

"I'm sorry." He came up and to my surprise, wrapped an arm around my waist, whispering in my ear then immediately scurrying off.

Could this be an act of his so I would defend him in the name of our relationship?

Oh no. What am I thinking? I can't be that low.

"I'll be home a bit late tonight. Don't prepare my meal." Sidd said, shutting the door before I could argue.

"Oh and - your house will be ready sometime next week. They're just clearing up the raid and putting things back to order." He popped his head back around and smiled slightly, disappearing again.

To my own surprise, I felt disappointed and as if "the fun was over" type feeling.

I don't know I'm just weird that way aren't I?

"Hello?! Anyone? Oh Reem thank goodness!"
Avneet's shocking voice made my nails dig into the metal of my phone.

"What's wrong?" I said fearfully.

"Come to Secr... I mean - Sector 3, Oaks Road, house -"

"Right. Tunisha's house?" I asked.

"How - how do you know?!" Her high pitched voice was on the verge of screaming.

"Now's not the time to explain. I'll be there soon." I hung up and got my car keys immediately.

I wondered what could go wrong at 9:37AM this morning on a fine, spring's day...?
