~part 27~
My bed felt extra squishy that night and pounced under the duvet with a comfortable smile on my face. I lay my head on the pillow while sleeping on my stomach, and closed my eyes.
"God it's hot." I opened my eyelids suddenly and slunk upright once more to switch on the light and sort the heat out.
I opened the window and let some cold night air flush through. My hair strands blew all over the place, when I realized I was only in my sleeveless shirt and a pair of stretchable shorts.
I decided I was going to have a nice cold shower at that moment.
"Let me just get my clothes...." I muttered, barging into the bathroom with a huddle of clothes in my arms.
I went under the dripping shower and it rose to a cascading sensation of cold, spine-chilling water.
I shivered with delight, with a slight smile on my face.
After it got cold, I quickly wrapped a short towel round and decided I was going to sleep in that.
I shook my wet hair playfully and tilted my head to dry it on a pure white towel, and through the ferocious rubbing and roughness, my ears couldn't sense out the tiny marching of footsteps in my room.
"Ree....."
"ARGHHHHHHHH!"
Suddenly, the door creaked wide open and I jumped, turning around with a fierce, high pitched scream!
"Oops! Oh... errr sorry!" Side turned round too, clutching the door in shock.
I flushed a pale pink and breathed heavily. My towel had been gripped tightly in my two fingers.
"ehehe...errr hey!" My voice came muffled through under the great layering of clothing I was trying to put on in efforts to make things less awkward than they already were.
I somehow sensed him giggling shyly, still facing away.
"You can look now.." I said barely above a whisper.
He turned his head in fragments, just ensuring I had everything on.
I looked at him timidly with my large owl eyes that glistened as a result of the dim golden lamp shining above our heads.
Our eyes locked for a few seconds and we stood staring as if the world was going to end tomorrow. His hair was so attractive that it annoyed me.
"Uhh.. so -" he sighed and began looking around.
"So -"
He looked at me in shock.
"What?" I asked him in surprise.
"Aren't you.... aren't you amazed?"
"By what?" I shrugged.
His face hung in horror.
"Well, most girls are amazed by me you know..." he said slyly.
"I'm not 'most girls'." I stared at him.
He raised his eyebrows with a sneaky smile.
"I see...." he whispered, coming closer.
"Uh, I'm - going to bed." I said hurriedly and moved away leaving his eyes resting perfectly still on me.
I crawled under the duvet and pulled it over my face.
"Goodnight." He said, going over to the switch and shutting it.
I peeped through the duvet and saw darkness surrounding me....
💕
•BEEP BEEP•
"Urgh, what is it now? CAN YOU SHUT UP?" I turned onto my stomach and looked at my phone with narrow eyes.
I bashed it back on the bedside table, sleeping comfortably again.
•BEEP BEEP•
I pulled down the duvet off my face real slow, revealing my angry eyes.
I snatched the phone and sat upright.
"Hello? Who is this? Don't you know better than to call me at 6 am in the morning?!" I exhaled angrily.
"Hey Reem! This is Avneet!"
My eyes widened in shock.
"Oh, I'm - I'm so sorry Avneet." My tone softened. "By the way.... I don't remember anyone called Avneet?" I said bluntly.
"I'm sorry but - you'll just have to remind me." I said politely.
I heard a small chuckle at the end of the line.
"You know Vishal, he's my brother." She said seriously.
I gulped.
"Vishal.... the bootlegger?" I said quietly.
She sighed.
"I'm afraid yes. But he counted you as your friend." She said hopefully.
"Not anymore, we confronted him. I betrayed him."
"He really did count you as a friend." She sighed.
"I know, but - justice is the most important thing for me." I smiled weakly.
"Err, can we meet - like sometime today?" She said quickly.
I narrowed my eyes.
"So urgently?" I asked.
"Yeah, well - I have some things to tell you. I'm in a small dilemma. I need your help."
"Alright, we'll meet at -"
"Sunrise cafe?"
"No!" I said quickly.
"Huh?" I heard her get confused.
"I mean - what about Costa?" I laughed terribly.
"Oh yeah, sure. See you there!"
"Bye." I hung up and stared outside the window, watching the rain drip steadily and seep into the small cracks in the gravel.
I didn't know the person I was meeting, but alright. I was famous now that I had solved over two major cases and it was my duty to help someone in need.
