~part 21~
A hooded black figure; chasing me down the alley. His hood flying back with the wind's resistance. My heart is in my mouth, it beats unevenly. I hear ferocious gun shots sounding in every corner my peripheral view could possibly see; the sky has turned dull with smoke and blackness piercing into the pupils of my eyes while the stomping of feet behind me gets louder and louder and - louder....
"Hello?"
A blurry vision pierced my eyes as my eyes flickered open in confusion.
I saw a few worried faces looking down at me in a huddle.
I sat up in my bed quickly.
"Huh?" I scratched my head.
"Oh thank God! I was worried for a second!" Sidd sighed in relief and I just eyed him dumbly.
"What's wrong?" I asked in doubt as I saw him sweating from the brim of his forehead.
"You just fainted a bit. Maybe from all the new changes." Sidd gave me a warm smile, however I didn't respond.
"So, can we go to my house today?" I asked him.
"Sure."
Throughout the car journey, I thought of the dream that I imagined I was in. The dream resembled a duck-duck-goose chase with Kalia and Faisal.
I shook slightly and realized we had reached, forgetting all about my dream.
I sighed. Home sweet home.
I marched through the front door proudly, but my shoulders dropped abruptly at the simply unbearable sight.
Cushions lying on the floor; the cotton inside them flying everywhere, sticking to the sofas which had loose stitches bundling out of corners and wires all broken, exposing us to electrocution.
I looked around carefully, my face horrified at the sight.
Raids really do ruin a house, I tell you. And if you want those cuddly cushions to survive, no point putting them in the cupboard which no one uses cause' honey - raid officers turn that unused cupboard into a jail.
Sidd was behind me as I looked around.
"Nice house!" He nodded in approval and looked around at the ceiling which had cracks in it.
I gave him a sarcastic stare.
He stiffened and flushed out a smile.
My boots clattered against the hard wooden floor as they tried to play stepping stones with the mess that had been scattered around.
"Oh my word! My photo frame!" I gasped in horror and flung my hands to my cheeks.
The bones in my knees clicked as I bent down quickly to pick up the minuscule shards of glass hurdled here and there.
I picked up what I could quickly and left the remains of my comfortable cushions as they were.
"Fancy thinking of wasting all that cotton wool!" Sidd played around with a ball of fluff in his hands.
"Are you here to help me or to taunt me?" I spoke across the room.
"Well, whichever you want Miss Sheikh." Sidd straightened up obediently and just as I was about to think it was a joke he was making, I realized that he had a sensitive personality and that he was serious. Actually serious.
"I'm sorry." I blinked away, continuing to pack my suitcase.
He pursed his lips together apologetically.
I zipped up my bag slowly and he clutched the handle from my hands and placed it in his car.
He beckoned a few of his helpers which had come to help us to pick up the bags while I watched all this through the door.
I smiled in embarrassment for some reason, and sat myself in the car while the trunk was still getting loaded.
I looked around, bored, when my ears cringed at some 1960s song which was on the radio.
"Oh please, not that again." I leant over to change the channel and I flicked through with a scowl on my face until I reached Station 88.8.
"Kalia has been tracked and it seems like his own twin brother got him arrested! Well they say that twins have similar personalities, but this rebellious pair seems to be record breaking! Anyways, keep updated on this new news which has been leaked just over an hour ago on Channel 4. Toodles!"
My fingers went numb and I heard the door open.
"You okay?" Sidd stopped at my worried face.
"Uhh, yeah." I sat back in my seat and looked away; towards the window.
He shrug his shoulders and we drove back off to his mansion, without saying a word throughout the journey.
Kalia Kalia Kalia.
"Erm, Sidd - are you tired?" I spoke out randomly, forgetting I wasn't with Kalia anymore.
He turned to look at me.
"A bit."
I looked at him surprisingly at his response, not expecting him to reply.
"Why don't you tell Rishabh to drive for a bit then?" I asked, breaking the awkward silence.
Rishabh was his driver who was currently snoring in the back seat.
"Yeah, Rishabh, please drive for the remaining duration. Me and madam will sit at the back." We changed seats and me and Sidd sat next to each other at the back, shuffling as much as we could to make the maximum space between us.
My head felt heavy and before I knew it, I had lost sense of the world around me and I fell into a deep sleep.
💓
My eyes fluttered open abruptly and I jerked my head up as I realized it was settled comfortably on Sidd's shoulder. He watched me watch him in horror and I tucked a loose strand behind my ear.
"Oh! I'm sorry," I whispered in embarrassment.
To my shock, as I tried to lift my head off, my earring got stuck in his chain.
"Ouch!" I gasped.
"Reem! Are you okay?" He suddenly wrapped a hand around my ice cold cheek at my response.
We gazed into each other's eyes for a while.
My earring was still stuck and he let go of his grip, when the chain and earring finally gave way.
"Madam, Sir - I'm getting late. I also need to pick up my other customers." The driver interrupted.
We shifted away from each other awkwardly and got out of the car.
I walked quickly to the door while Sidd got out all the luggage. I realized that he tossed the keys to me so I could open the door.
I ran straight to my bedroom, not even stopping once and my reflection in the mirror appeared.
I stared at myself for a while when the knock on the door made me jump.
"Reem? May I come in?" Sidd peeped through.
"Yeah."
He dropped of my bags by my bed and I thanked him, suddenly my eyes fell to his hands dangling at the side of his waist.
"W-what happened to your hand?" I asked him in concern.
"Oh..." he looked down at it. "Err, nothing. It's just bleeding a bit. Your bags are even tougher than you!"
I glared at him.
I saw him chuckling. My eyes pricked with tears.
He saw me and shifted his gaze. A nano second later, he shot a regretful look at me crying.
"Oh! Oh my gosh! I didn't know you're that sensitive!" Sidd watched my face cringe in sadness.
I pretended to be hurt, though I was not.
"Please stop crying! Reem! Hey, it was just a joke!" Sidd thought of ways to make me laugh and I was secretly, but he shouldn't know that. *winks*
Suddenly, I burst out into fragments of laughter. My awkwardness had been washed away and this was the first time I was laughing with him.
He sighed angrily but calmed himself and started laughing too.
I saw him gaze dreamily at my beautiful smile. I stopped with a slight, shy smile and witnessed the soft look in his hazel brown eyes.
"Err... I'll get going." Sidd turned to go quickly.
I straightened up, surprised at his short arrival and I wished he would stay for a little longer. It had been ages since I had laughed.
Oh well.
I sat myself down on my bed, flicking through my Snapchat when it came.
Meet me at Sunrise Cafe at sharp 7pm.
