~part 14~

"Meet me in Sunrise Cafe tomorrow."

The heavy and husky voice still weighed my heart down in panic as I tossed and turned in my bed that night.

So this random stranger comes and touches me and then he invites me to a cafe?!

All that planning gone to waste. I'll catch Kalia here, I'll catch Kalia there - but got myself bloody assaulted.

I swore under my breath and the next morning, my head was heavy with sleep flying around inside.

I sat up in bead with wrinkles on my forehead and I looked at the clock.

"Urgh, why am I up so early, stupid me." I dropped back onto my pillow and my eyes widened like an owl a few minutes later.

"Wait - THE CAFE?!" I stormed into the bathroom, got myself dressed and somehow made my hair in a haste.

A warm spring breeze held a dash of chill as goosebumps arose on my arms that were bare from the dress I was wearing.

I never really wore dresses that often now; I would mostly be in military patterned trousers and all belted and bold.

It kind of reminded me of my college days when I used to stress over what I was going to wear to these stupid parties.

I drove off to the cafe and anticipated nervously. I looked around but no sign of anyone coming to me.

I didn't even know how that guy looked like; he had a mask on his face so I couldn't tell if he was here or not.

I would get a good look of him now, he wouldn't come to the cafe wearing a mask would he?

Suddenly, an unexpected sight caught my attention.

His hair fluttered in the air which was pouring on his face; his eyes held a proud gleam in them. His gentle smile attracted my gaze and however much I tried, I couldn't take it off him.

As he looked in my direction my mouth fell at my clumsiness and I blinked away. He was still looking and maybe he had caught sight of me looking at him secretively.

To my horror, he got up and started walking towards me. I gulped; did he catch me taking sneaky glances?

I pretended to apply a clean layer of lipstick and not be bothered but I had to look at him when he came and stopped a few metres away from me.

His muscular hands were covered with sleeves than ran to his elbows. He pulled them up and dug his hands into his pockets. He eyed me curiously and smiled when my eyes met his.

I looked away again, but not for long.

"Hi." He said. It was awkward.

"Hi...." I replied uncertainly.

He sighed and inhaled a deep breath.

I watched his eyelids close and his cheeks looked like they were perfectly mounded. I couldn't stop staring at him and admiring his attractiveness.

He opened them slowly and found me looking. We stared into each other's eyes slightly until he blinked away and spoke:

"You've been waiting here from such a long time... who are you waiting for?"

"Oh, I was meeting someone."

"Ahh, please join me until they arrive." He offered.

"Err, no thanks I'm fine."

"Really?"

I breathed heavily. I really did want to join him.

He laughed.

"Don't over think. Wanna join me?"

I couldn't help but nod and smile back. He pulled back a seat for me and I sat down in surprise.

Gosh - he really was a gentleman after all.

"What's your name?" He asked, leaning over the edge of the table and smiling.

"Reem." I said shyly.

I saw him blink slowly and he drew a smile on his face again.

"Sidd." He jerked his hand up and offered a hand.

Hearing his name, a cramp in my heart occurred.

Unsurely, I slipped my palm into his and he gave it a gentle shake.

"So, what do you do?"

"Many things...." he laughed it off.

"No, I mean - job?" I asked smiling at his humor.

"Well, I went to Cambridge university and I got a degree in engineering."

"Oh nice!" Okay good, so it can't be my crush because I went to London college.

"And what about you?" He asked

"I'm a forensic scientist." I said.

"Woah?! So you deal with substances found in crime scenes?!"

He seemed impressed.

I nodded modestly.

I didn't even want to mention Kalia as a mistake because my investigator identity had to be kept a secret.

"Looks like whoever you're waiting for hasn't arrived?" Sidd broke the silence and hearing this, worrying thoughts came into my mind.

"Yeah... I wonder where they are?" I asked with a scared expression.

"Arre!? You look like they were some royal family members and you have to meet them!?"

I blinked towards him and sighed.

"It's alright, I'm just joking." His laugh lessened to a comforting smile.

"Well, I have to go now but nice meeting you Sidd...." I said quickly.

His smile disappeared and a frown replaced it instead.

"So soon?" He almost seemed as if he was disappointed.

I turned round in surprise.

"I'll drop you home, Reem."

"Um, okay but - you're....."

"Yes yes I'm free, it's my responsibility to help a damsel."

I jerked my head up to look at him in shock.

"Err, well - I mean it's my duty to help any woman... eh he he..." he trailed off and looked at me apologetically with a cute face that made me burst out laughing.

"Chalo...." I laughed.

He quickly ran in front of me and opened the door for me to sit in.

He shut it and I put on my seatbelt.

Suddenly, my nose sniffed an unusual smell.

"I smell... a strong scent...." my forehead wrinkled in confusion.

"No...? It must be your imagination.

We were silent for a few seconds until Sidd stopped the car suddenly.

"What happened? Why did you stop?" I asked him worriedly.

"Your house...."

"Oh..." I flushed in embarrassment and blinked away. I didn't feel like getting out of his car.

"Your number Reem?" Sidd asked, leaning out of the window as I was just about to get onto the doorstep.

"048393922," I said quickly, chucking a notebook at his face sweetly with a pouted smile.

He just about managed to stop the notebook from slipping and hesitantly tried to grip it in his fingers.

I winked and he smirked cutely.

"Reem!"

"What?"

"Happy Valentines!" He cried, sounding desperate.

My eyes saw him trying to repeat my number over and over again and he wrote it down carefully in the notebook. The engine sounded and his car sped off, leaving me day dreaming about him.

I chuckled to myself and stood in front of a mirror. Suddenly, the phone beeped and an unknown, unfamiliar number came up.

No identity......
