Chapter 3
"He asked about you!" Lily whisper-yelled in May's ear, her tone enthusiastic.
"Who?"
"That guy!"
May frowned, looking into the direction that Lily was pointing at in an unsubtle manner, and caught the eye of the same boy that she'd interacted with yesterday.
He caught her gaze and gave her a small smile and a wave. Lily squealed again, and nudged May with her shoulder.
"Go and ask for his order. Now."
May scowled. "I have a counter to maintain."
"Take a break, then!" Lily ordered. "Go and sit with him. I'll manage the shop. The customers are scarce, anyways."
"Lily-"
"Go!"
May was pushed into the direction of the same boy who was now looking at her with an amused expression. She sighed, walking up to his table and sitting down across from him. It was quite a bold move on her part, since the guy never gave her an indication as to whether he wanted her to sit on the same table as him, but May had always been a confident person.
She could just imagine Lily doing a happy dance in her head.
"My co-worker just forced me to take a break so that I could sit with you," she said bluntly.
The boy's olive eyes widened a fraction, and he threw his head back to laugh. It was a deep, husky sound, and weirdly enough, May found it highly attractive.
"You're honest, aren't you?" he smiled. "I'm Blaze, by the way. I was expecting you to ask that yesterday, but since you didn't, I figured I'd just introduce myself."
May nodded briefly. "That's a...unique name."
He laughed again. "It's actually a horrible name. My mother thought it'd be cool, but it honestly isn't."
"You're new, aren't you?" May asked, knowing that he in fact, was new to the town since she'd never seen him here before. In a small town like theirs, everyone knew everyone.
"Huh?" he asked, as if genuinely confused.
May rolled her eyes. "New to this town. Are you?"
He nodded. "Oh, yeah. I just moved here for my internship and college."
"Oh wow, where? It must be quite tiring."
He grinned. "It's at Flynn Corporations."
May's eyes widened, "Isn't that the biggest graphic design corporation in town?"
He gave her a cute smile, and it was then that May noticed a slight indent in his left cheek. A small dimple. "It is. I'm lucky enough to be interning there. What about you, May? What do you do?"
"Isn't it obvious?" she drawled sarcastically.
"No, I meant for studying. Do you not go to college?"
"I do," she affirmed, although she didn't bother elaborating.
"Where, if I may ask?" he prodded. He was like a little kid, and information was like a candy to him. May didn't appreciate him asking so many questions, but she answered nevertheless.
"Woodshill Medical College," she said.
His eyebrows shot up so high that they almost disappeared into his hairline. "You're a medical student? Wow, what do you study?"
She smiled wryly. There it was, that look filled with surprise. The one she'd always received whenver she told someone that she was a medical student.
"For now, I'm studying to become a normal physician. Later on, I might specialize in Cardiology, though."
"That's great!" he said enthusiastically. "It must be nice, training to save so many lives."
She nodded again,a silent confirmation of his words, although her brain was screaming at her otherwise.
