Chapter 2
Alec awoke with a jolt. He instantly proceeded to move in order to improve his stiff muscles but found that that he couldn't do much movement as it became apparent that he chained to the wall and ceiling in a dark, damp and dingy room. His arms were stretched out about his head connecting the the chains that were tightly and securely to the ceiling. His feet were also connected to chains that securely placed him remained in contact with the wall. He attempted to struggle his way out of the chains but everything he did would cause him to be in more pain than what he was currently in. He soon gave up and proceeded to think about how he ended up in this predicament.
Realisation hit him like a brick to the face. He remembered saying goodbye to Magnus. He remembered stepping through the portal that usually left him with a tingling feeling of happiness. He remembered being frozen in place as he tried to leave. He even remembered the words that were uttered to him before his entire world turned black.
"Don't worry, little Nephilim, I'll take care of you"
Those words sent shivered through his spine.
He tried looking at his surroundings in and attempt to figure out where he was but all that he could see was stone.
Suddenly footsteps could be heard approaching, followed by the creaking sound of the rusty door opening.
"Alexander Gideon Lightwood, welcome"
—
Magnus rushed to the bedroom and grabbed one of Alec's t-shirts before venturing back into the living room where Isabelle and Jace were waiting.
Without hesitation, Magnus proceeded to use his tracking spell to find the last known location of his boyfriend.
Once the spell was completed and Magnus had obtained Alec's last known location he looked shocked.
"What is it?" Jace asked.
"Alec's last known location was a couple of blocks away from here but I don't understand how. I opened a portal to Idris for him but he only portalled a couple of blocked away" Magnus couldn't make any sense of this situation. Could Alec have decided to only portal a couple of blocks away instead?
Jace and Isabelle couldn't offer any explanation as to why but Magnus didn't expect them to.
"Let's go to this location and see if there is anything that could give us any help" Magnus said as he opened a portal.
The three of them stepped through to the alleyway that Magnus said was Alec's last known location.
Within a couple of seconds of being there Isabelle gasped and ran to the edge of the alley, "It's Alec's bow" she stated.
Magnus and Jace slowly approached where Isabelle was crouching, mindfully accepting that it was, indeed, Alec's arrow.
"He would never leave it lying around" Jace stated as Isabelle picked it up and held it close to her.
Magnus frowned. Jace was right. Alec would never leave his bow lying around anywhere. He cared about it too much.
"I can sense traces of magic" Magnus said.
"What does that mean?" Jace asked.
Jace knew exactly what Magnus meant but every part of him hoped that he was wrong.
—
Magnus arrived back at his loft alone. He had sent Jace and Izzy back to the Institute so that they could find anything that could help them with the search. Magnus, however, pulled his phone out of his pocket and proceeded to call his oldest friend, Catarina Loss.
He needed to figure out why his portal didn't send Alec where he was supposed to go and the only person who could help him with this was Catarina.
"Hello" Catarina said as she answered the phone to Magnus' call, "Magnus, why are you calling me as near to midnight as possible?".
It didn't occur to Magnus that it was the middle of the night. The past few hours had been hectic and he hadn't had much time to really process what was happening.
"Magnus?" Catarina asked again when she didn't get any response.
"Catarina. I'm sorry for calling at such a late hour" Magnus said, voice strained.
At that point it seemed as if Catarina had perked up a little bit, "What's wrong?" She asked, her voice laced in worry. She had known Magnus a long time and could read him like an open book.
"I need your help"
"I'll be over in a few minutes"
—
Alec looked up at the owner of the voice. He had never seen the man who stood in front of him.
The man smirked, sending another chill up Alec's spine.
"Where am I?" Alec asked with as much courage as he could.
The man creeped around the room for a few seconds before responding, "You're in Edom, dear boy".
Alec's eyes widened and then realisation hit, "You're... You're Magnus' father" Alec stuttered, "Asmodeus".
He knew that he shouldn't be scared. He was a Shadowhunter. Fear wasn't something that was installed into them. However, in that moment his fear scale went into over-drive.
"So, you have heard of me" Asmodeus seemed delighted, "I didn't think my son would have uttered a syllable of my name. He never did to his previous lovers. What makes you so special?".
Alec remained quiet.
Asmodeus raised an eyebrow, expecting some kind of retort from the boy.
Asmodeus turned to leave the room but stopped when a voice spoke.
"What do you want?" Alec asked.
Asmodeus chuckled and turned back around to face his prisoner, "I want my son to rule beside".
"You're crazy! Magnus would never rule beside you! He's better than—" Alec snapped but was put off when a hand came down and slapped him across the face.
"Don't talk to me in that tone, boy!" Asmodeus yelled, making Alec flinch, "My son will join me, especially if his little boy toy is the bargaining chip".
With that, Asmodeus spun around on his heel and headed out of the door, slamming it in the process.
Alec watched as he left the room before hanging his head as a result of the stinging sensation that spread over his entire face as a result of the slap that he had endured.
