That Mysterious Smile~

Vihaan's Pov~

"Vihaan? Vihaan? Hey! You there?"

I could hear her voice calling out for me. But I couldn't say anything. I was hurting. I could feel myself breaking into pieces. My legs gave up, I slid down the wall and sat leaning against it. There were no tears but the pain was uncontrollable. I never realized when the call ended or when two days passed.

That one phone call had turned my life upside down. I want to cry, shout and scream but I am emotionally exhausted, I cannot express my agony even though I badly want to. There is a lump in my throat, my eyes want to shed bloody tears but I just can't. It's like someone is caging whatever I am feeling!

I have just one question. Why me? Why always me? Why?

With this everything that happened a few months ago started playing in my head.

"Listen, I'll be back, I am going to buy something I am hungry," I told my friend.

He muttered an okay in his half sleepy state.

With this, I got out of the train! It was 2 AM and as it should be, all dark, my train was somewhere in Gujarat station, it was all deserted except for one or two people sleeping on the platform!

"Damn! it was so easy to fool these idiots, who go out at 2 AM just to buy something to eat, when not even a single shop is open. So, finally Manik you have completed your one of the darkest fantasies to catch a moving train by running after it, just like heroes in movies!" I exclaimed with a mischievous glint in eyes and a victorious smile on my face.

When the train started moving slowly I stood there and looked at it with an amused expression but after looking around myself for a moment, I got scared when I saw barren station, my feet automatically moved towards the train and leaped for the door! I took a deep breath and went to my coach where I saw that my friends and teachers were still sleeping but there was no ounce of sleep in my eyes, I was all excited for this Trip!

Little did I know that this trip was going to change my life forever.

"MUMBAI! HERE WE ARE" every Student sang in unison as the train had finally reached the Mumbai station!

The teacher instructed the students to gather their luggage, it was a 7-day school trip and the tourist guides were there to help them to explore all of Mumbai's famous places!

As I saw the tourist guides my eyes stuck at a certain someone, who was smiling sweetly looking at the students!

"Is this Girl a tourist guide too? But isn't she too young for that...", I thought while admiring the girl's smile, I found her smile painstakingly mysterious.

"What are you even thinking Dude, that too about a girl?? This isn't you, I am here to enjoy with my friends, these girls are just plain pain". After thinking all this and trying to brush the girl's mysterious smile from the head I moved towards the guides, I wished them along with the other students and with that we moved to our hotel where we were supposed to stay for 7 days!

The next morning I woke up and did my daily routine. When I went towards the dining table my eyes again found that girl and there she was smiling beautifully while chatting with others! Without even my knowledge I started thinking about her!

"What could be her name? Why I am even thinking about her? She can be anyone, why do I even care?" With the constant fight between my heart and mind, I ate my breakfast!

The first day was normal nothing more exciting happened except my dilemma!

The next day, I don't know why but I fought with my friends. This made me upset and due to this I went and sat by the sea with my earphones plugged in and started admiring the calm, serene beauty of Mumbai seas!

I think the travel guides noticed me sitting alone while everyone was enjoying, so, they approached me and asked why was I sitting alone?

I told them about my fight, the tourist guides started talking to me and making me understand. I instantly liked their company. They introduced themselves and that mystery girl also introduced herself as "Nandini". She was a relative of one of the Tourist Guides. She had her holidays too so she came here to accompany them!

"Nandini, what a beautiful name just like her, not again Manik" There goes again the fight between my Heart and Mind!

With a shy smile, I introduced myself and had a handshake with all of them but when it came to Nalini I felt like a spark passing through my system, it was my first contact with any female apart from my mother and sister, I never really talked or stared at any girl!

After my first interaction with my mystery girl, we become great friends and started visiting places together. I enjoyed her company, I no longer had to sit alone at the dining table as she was there with her neverending chatter to entertain me to make me laugh with her jokes! When I thought that I was never going to smile again she made me laugh!

It was the last day of our trip, so we went to Juhu Beach. As usual, Nandini was blabbering and I was listening to her intently, but as we got closer to the beach my aquaphobia kicked in. I stopped abruptly and Nandini kept walking but when she saw no one beside her she turned to see me glued in one spot! She walked towards me and told me to hurry up as we were going to miss the fun but I gathered courage and told her about my phobia!

Nandini teased me about it but when she saw red hue on my cheeks she stopped with her teasings and made me understand. Suddenly she grabbed my hand and started moving towards the water!

Maybe it was just a mere hand touch for Nalini but me, it was something else, I got dumbstruck for a moment, it felt like my whole world has seized then and there! In their whole sea fun, she kept holding my hand and down the line, my heart had accepted her as mine!

The trip ended with lots of fun and memories. Not only my Bag but my heart was also carrying a piece of sweet luggage on this wonderful trip! Nalini and I bid bye to each other with a promise to stay in touch and meet somewhere in the future. With this, we exchanged our numbers and parted ways.

The whole journey from Mumbai to my hometown I kept thinking about all the moments I spent with Nandini and the tourist guides! My heart was aching and longing for Nandini's smiling face! I took out my phone and instantly messaged her!

"Hey Nandi", I sent this message on her WhatsApp. She replied to his message the next morning and it was the best thing that happened to me at the start of the day. I kept talking to her, not only my face but my body was also radiating and glistening with happiness.

Three months went in a blur after my eventful yet best trip to Mumbai. In these 3 months, my Nalini and I had created a beautiful and soulful bond. We used to share memes, gossips, GIF's and sometimes even talked deeply. We gelled up together so well. Our day started with each other's morning message and ended with goodnight ones.

Everything was going perfect but fate had planned something else. Everything that started perfectly ended.

21st April was the date when everything changed but a few days ago I FINALLY realized my true feelings for Nalini I wanted to tell her. But before I could do that she mysteriously went missing. No Call, no message, Nothing. I waited, waited and waited!

It's Been One and a half years, a long time to move on and forget someone even my life was going with the flow but little in my heart I still carved and hoped to see a message to pop up on my screen with Nalini's name.

One day as if God had heard my prayers in his twisted ways and my hope to see her smiling face again in the future got shattered brutally.

"Nalini is no more, she was hit by a car and died on the spot!", told the tourist guide, Meera who happened to be her relative, when I somehow got her contact.

Shattered. Broken. Defeated. That's what I was feeling.

I took my Diary And Went To Terrace While Looking At The Brightest Start I Wrote,

Dear Long Lost Someone

It felt like heaven

Now, it hurts like hell

You said the sweetest things

Now, I am left with a bitter taste

I wish I could let this go

I wish I could tell how I fell for your mysterious smile And heartwarming soul!

Your's Vihaan.
