Chapter 5

Taehyung's POV

All I have been able to do for the past half hour is stare at the blank wall. My schedule usually revolves around Hayoon but without her, I didn't know what to do with myself. Yesterday I managed because there were quite a few things to do around the house. I cleaned up a bit, did laundry, bought groceries, and mowed the lawn.

But today was dragging, Jin was right when he said my best friend was a five-year-old. I had since stopped hanging out with all my college friends. They were still in that party lifestyle and I just couldn't keep up anymore, I didn't want to either. I never agreed with the 'job' Jin had, and it caused a lot of tension with us, but when Byeol passed, I knew he needed me more than ever, we put our differences aside because all that mattered was Hayoon.

I don't feel like a 25-year-old young man, it's Saturday and I have no plans or friends to hang out with. I feel like I should do something a little more exciting than sit around in my room and play video games. Maybe I should take Jin's advice and go out. But the idea is terrifying, I try remembering when was the last time I went to a club, but I'm drawing a blank.

Thinking back to my university days where I would hang out with my friends and get wasted , strolling around the streets of Seoul in the middle of the night and eating greasy food to ease the hunger that appeared as the sun went up. A sigh escaped me, yeah, with that nostalgic memory the decision is made. I'm going out tonight!

Going into my closet, I searched the shelves of clothes, finding an outfit that was club-appropriate. I settled on the clothes I had bought months ago but hadn't had the opportunity to wear, because, well, I can't take a five-year-old to a club or a bar. Turning on the radio I went downstairs to the minibar and grabbed a drink to set the mood.

Knowing I had lots of time on my hands, I paid extra attention to my hair so it looks flawless. I sang along to the lyrics of the song playing while I ruffled through my hair strands in search of the perfect look tonight. It sucks that I'll be alone, although that just gives me an opportunity to meet new people... in more ways than one. By the time the clock struck 10 pm, I was a few drinks in, enough to loosen me up and get rid of any nerves I might have.

I ordered a cab deciding even if I didn't meet someone to bring home I would let loose so driving would be out of the question. Stepping inside the club made me reminisce about the good old days.

There is a stench of alcohol, sweat, and perfume in the air, it's the most intoxicating scent in the world. The bass of the music resonated in my ears almost making me flinch the more I walked into the room. I loved it.

I weaved my way through the crowd, finding the bar and ordering myself a drink. I leaned against the bar's countertop where the bartender nodded at me. "Tequila, on the rocks," I said, turning to scope the rest of the club while the bartender prepared my drink.

There were tons of people seductively dancing to the music, others were in booths feeling each other up even more, and some were on the bar just like me waiting for a refill or talking to whoever might hear. If I get lucky tonight I have no doubt I'll become part of the crowd that spends the night in the booths.

With a 'thump' my drink is placed in front of me, I take a sip and feel the familiar warm, burning sensation run down my throat. A woman sat on the stool next to me ordering a martini with extra olives. I could feel her stare lingering on me, I turned and looked at her with a flirty smile on my lips. She had pretty long auburn hair that ran down her exposed back, but her hazel eyes that met my gaze were clearly fake, the contacts she was wearing didn't blend well with her natural eye color, she had painted her lips a crimson red. A smile took over her lips and she leaned in closer to me.

"Hi, I'm Yeona and you are?" she seductively said over the music, her eyes raking over me hungrily.

"Taehyung, a pleasure to meet you," I simply responded with a smirk.

Just like that, I found who I was going to have fun with tonight. We spent the next fifteen minutes shamelessly flirting, trying to hide the attraction for the other, a mere formality. Right before I was going to suggest we find a comfy booth to get more acquainted, I felt my phone vibrate harshly against my chest.

I excused myself fishing it out of my blazer to see one of my alarms I set to check on Hayoon at night. I turned it off to see a picture of us as my wallpaper, locking my phone. I turned to Yeona who was already staring at me with a strange look.

"You have a daughter?" her tone of voice is unlike the one she had before. It's curious and nervous.

"Ah, no, that's my niece Hayoon," I lightly chuckle, "I usually take care of her, but she's on vacation with her dad."

"Oh, okay. I was worried for a second there," she laughed, flipping her hair over her shoulder.

"Why? You don't like kids?" Tilting my head, I await her response.

She fidgets in her seat, "No, I don't tend to get along with them and they never seem to like me either." The attraction I was feeling for her just a moment ago starts to dampen.

"That's a pity I love kids!" I exclaim getting lost in the moment, "They're really cute and fun to be around, or well at least my niece is. She's like my best friend-" Why, oh, why did I say that? I sound like a loser...

Yeona is surprised at my answer and it's clear as day she's put off. In a flash, she is excusing herself saying her friends are waiting for her. You know they say kids have a sixth sense, and if they didn't like her there must be a reason. I guess it's for the best.

With a groan, I down my drink, slamming it on the bar and signaling the bartender for another. The last interaction leaves me kind of defeated and I contemplate leaving the bar. I was not having fun anymore and being alone wasn't ideal.

A laugh beside me made me turn my head to find a pink-haired man beside me. He was full out laughing, his eyes crinkled, not letting him see my gaze was on him.

"What's so funny?" I ask annoyed.

"You are, man," he laughs as he turns to me.

"Do you always use kids to pick up hot girls?" He questions with a tilt of his head.

"It's been a while," I mumble.

"Aw, it can't have been that long, what was it a month? Six months?" He asked, amused.

I nervously take another swig of my drink, "Try three years..."

"YOUR LYING!," he exclaims loudly, drawing attention to us.

"Shh! I'm not, I've had more important things to do than mess around," I say seriously.

"Hmm, well, I'm Jimin I'm sure I can help you fix your three-year drought," he offers his hand out to me.

"Taehyung," I replied, shaking his hand.

Six drinks later and me and Jimin had become fast friends, he could not understand how I would give up being a bachelor to take care of a kid that wasn't even mine but still respected the fact that I had stepped up to help my brother.

"I think it's safe to say we need to get you back in the game," Jimin sighs, patting me on the back.

"How are you planning on doing that exactly?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm a master at flirting and seducing women, trust me," he smirks before his eyes trailed to someone from behind me.

"Ah, Jungkook you're back!" Jimin exclaims. A man who I assumed is called Jungkook stands next to Jimin, fist-bumping him and waving the bartender over.

"JK this Taehyung. Taehyung, Jungkook," he rapidly introduced us, gesturing between us.

"Jungkook here can testify of my abilities with women," Jimin says with a smug look.

Jungkook scoffs, shaking his head, "Please, don't listen to a word he says. The only thing he's good at is striking out."

Jimin looked offended at his friend's words, I sipped my drink quietly and took in the situation.

"What about the blonde I helped you score earlier tonight?" He asks indignantly.

"Her fiance happened," Jungkook bitterly adds, poking his tongue in his cheek, "I told you the ring meant something!"

"I'm SOOOO sorry," Jimin laughs loudly, not seeming very sorry at all as he supports himself on the bar, "Better luck next time."

I felt like an intruder watching the two friends interact. It was as clear as day they have known each other for years. I talked to them for a while longer, ultimately deciding to head home for the night. I had fun, but my energy was quickly depleting. It was way later than I was used to staying up, considering I was used to Hayoons schedule and the countless drinks, making me sleepy instead of hype. Jungkook and Jimin were evidently staying until the club closed, something I was not looking forward to.

"I'm going to head home," I announced, slamming the empty glass on the counter.

"Don't go, we're having a good time," Jungkook pleaded, "Without you, I'll be stuck with him," he says pointing an accusing finger to Jimin.

"Hey! You know I'm a good time!" Jimin complained, slapping his arm.

"Sorry Jungkook I'm going," I apologized with a small smile, "It was a pleasure meeting you guys."

"Why don't you hang out with us tomorrow?" Jimin then offered, "You can come over to our apartment and have a few drinks."

"Oh, um-," I hesitated, I barely know these guys although they don't seem half bad. I should listen to Jin and try to make another friend who isn't a five-year-old girl who invites me to tea parties.

"I promise we don't bite," Jungkook laughed, his nose scrunching.

"Alright," I nodded, accepting the offer.

After exchanging numbers I left the club behind. Outside was like an oasis. I took a deep breath being able to properly breathe pure air or some form of it mixed with pollution. My hearing was muffled by the speaker's volume and bass. I didn't have to wait long for my ride to get here, I climbed into the backseat dropping my head on the back of the seat. I was happy to have gotten out and the prospect of having some guys to hang out with was appealing. But when I stepped into the empty, quiet house, I felt lonely and couldn't wait for Hayoon to come back home.
