Where Did The Party Go?
(Pete)
I didn't wake up until after midday. The first thing I did was grab for my phone. I had a few texts from the guys. Most of them just asking if I wanted to hang out and get high. Which of course I did. What did they think Saturdays were for? Weekend homework? I jumped out of the bed and headed to the shower. Shit. I was out of body wash. Which meant now Brendon would be out of body wash because I was taking his. I walked across the hall and opened his room door. It was always too cold and clean in here. Almost disturbing.
I decided to just take a shower in his bathroom. It was cleaner and he had a towel heater. I still took the bodywash though. I'd need it tomorrow. I put on my favorite pair of holey jeans and a plain black T-shirt. I wasn't going to do my hair so I stuck a hat on and walked down the stairs.
"Are you just getting up?" My mother asked me with a frown.
"Yup." I smiled and walked past her into the kitchen to get a Poptart.
"Are you going out today?"
"Yup."
"Well you need to be back in a hour because I'm taking your bother and you shopping for new clothes."
"Why can't you just give me the money and let me buy my own clothes?"
"Because you would purchase more clothes like the ones you're wearing."
"Whatever, I'm walking to a friend's. Just text or call me when it's time to come back to hell."
"Peter!" My mother called to my father.
"Pete, mind that language."
I didn't respond I just walked out of the door. Of course I noticed our car was gone. Brendon was probably out with some lame study group. I wasn't allowed to drive it anyway. I walked up the block until I got to Joe's house. I knocked twice and waited for it to open.
"Pete, Hi!" His mother pulled me into a tight hug. "It's been a while. How was your summer."
"Boring. Joe in there?"
"Yes." She let me in the house and closed the door. "He's with a few of his friend down in the basement." I nodded and started down. "And Pete?"
"Yeah?"
"Open those windows if you guys are going to be smoking all darn day."
"Will do, ma'am." I laughed. I loved Joe's mom. She was so trusting and cool. She let Joe do whatever he wanted. I wish my mother was like that. I walked down into the basement and was met with a crowd. Joe, Adam. Britney, Ashlee, Alecia and two dudes I didn't know. Of course they were already high.
"Pete!" Alecia rushed up and kissed me. "You want a smoke?"
"Duh." I felt my phone vibrate in my pocked. I pulled it out. "Hello?"
"Pete?"
"Patrick?" Shit.
"Who's Patrick?" Joe asked, walking over and handing me the blunt.
"Are we still on for the movies?"
How the hell did I forget that?! "Oh, Yeah. Yeah. Of course."
"Good. Come on out. I'm in front of your house."
"I-Uh. I'm not home."
"Oh, Where are you?"
"Pete man, Puff it or pass it." Adam complained.
I covered the mouth part of the phone. "Shut the fuck up." I whispered.
"Puff what, Pete?" Patrick asked. Shit.
"Nothing." I lied. Adam walked over and snatched it from my hand.
"Where are you?" I gave him Joe's address. It wasn't far from where he was anyway. "Be outside. I'm pulling up now." He hung up the phone.
"Shit." I put the phone in my pocket and headed up the stairs. "I have to go."
"Why?" Joe asked.
"I-Uh. Something with my mom's church. I-uh forgot about."
"I'll walk you out." Alecia offered. I looked over her Shorts that were cut so high, they could be panties. And her bra that she was passing off as a shirt. Even the long cardigan she wore looked somehow slutty. Pink hair, red eyes. If Patrick saw me come out with her, he'd know exactly what I was doing. Or about to do.
"No, that's cool Alecia."
"Pink." She corrected with a lazy smile.
"Pink." I repeated. I walked up the stairs and rushed for the door so fast, I didn't even say goodbye to Joe's mom. Just as I stepped out the door, I saw Patrick's big truck pulling up. He didn't look happy.
"Pete, you forgot something." No. No. NO! I turned around and Pink was standing behind me.
"What?"
"This." She leaned over and kissed me again. "Later." She walked back into the house.
My trip to Patrick's car felt like it took hours. When in reality it only took a few seconds. I kept my head down. Staring at my feet as I walked. But I could still feel his disapproving stare on me the whole walk. Even as I climbed in and shut the door.
"We had rules." I didn't look up. "I said no smoking weed."
"I didn't smoke-"
"I smell it on you!"
"My friends were smoking. Not me. I promise!"
"Give me one good reason I shouldn't take you back home and tell your parents where you've been?"
My head snapped up to look at him. "You wouldn't!" I didn't feel like listening to my mom ramble on a Saturday.
"Oh, yes I would."
"Come on, Patrick! I wasn't even fucking smoking-"
"Language!"
"I swear I wasn't smoking. I was just around people who-"
"Then stop being around people who do. At least when they're doing it."
"But those are my friends! And they're always doing it!"
"Then maybe you need new friends." He started the car and we took off in the opposite direction of my house. I slumped in the seat. Close one. "And a new girlfriend too. She seems... Promiscuous."
"She's not my girlfriend." I mumbled.
"Good." He smirked. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
