Chapter Forty-three: The Tragedy.
Lucifer.
He grinned, the Malum catching the rays of light. In its reflection, I could see the chaos around me. The amount of blood could full the river nile. I shuddered. He raised the Malum, making all the Sins stop what they are doing and walk over to their father. I mean it wasn't the best family photo. Actually, it's the worst family photo.
"Sons," he grinned, "kill them."
The sins snarled and ran towards us. The virtues immediately defended themselves. I didn't know what to do. I looked over at my mother, who was being approached by Lucifer. I could hear fragments of conversation.
"You know, Valarie," her name rolled off his tongue seductively, "none of this would have happened if you joined me and taken the throne next to me."
"I would never rule beside you," she spat.
"Big mistake, darling."
I could see his hand snake over to his sword. I frantically looked for something to do. I found a small dagger on the ground. I hurriedly picked it up, ran and plunged it in Lucifer's heart. I stumbled back, in shock of my sudden movement. He looked at me, dazed.
"Mortals are so daft," he smirked, black ichor leaking from his mouth. He looked down at the Malum in his hand.
"No..." I whispered.
"Stupid mortal. Too bad you have to die. We could have had so much fun."
Lucifer raised the Malum, darkness forming around it. I was frozen in place, watching the darkness surround the Malum. It was like it was summoning darkness. Clouds of darkness swarmed around the cursed chalice, lightning cracking. With a swift movement, Lucifer swung the Malum in my direction, sending the darkness towards me. I shut my eyes, expecting to feel an impact and wake up to eternal darkness, but instead I heard a thud. I opened my eyes expecting to not see a thing, rather I saw my mother, a small dark spot visible in her armour. She was hit. The darkness began spreading, slowly all across her body.

3rd person's POV:
Maia fell to the ground with a thud, cradling her mother's body in her hands. Her sobs echoed despite the chaos around her. Her mother's hand found hers, causing Maia to look at Valerie.
"If I had to choose a way to die," Valerie croaked, through her last breaths, "it would be by saving you."
The darkness almost consumed her.
Maia cried, "you're an angel, right? You'll be fine, right? You'll be in heaven when we go back? Mom? M-mom?"
Little did Maia know that once an angel dies, they don't come back.
Maia let out a scream of rage and frustration. The virtues bowed their heads low, in respect of their fallen ruler. Lucifer and the Sins were nowhere to be found.
Maia held onto her mother, the mother that left her to fend for herself, but still her mother. Even if Maia hated her mother, she still felt pain. She wanted to scream, she wanted to kill Lucifer, she wanted to be the warrior her mother always saw her as. With the pain in her heart, with revenge coarsing through her veins, her eyes began to glow gold. Images of life and prosperity formed in them. Maia began to glow, releasing light brighter than the sun. She had found the Probus. She was the Probus. Maia's gold wings shone brighter than all the stars as she snarled. She could see Lucifer's palace even though it was miles away. The virtues immediately released their wings and stood behind Maia.
"Well Captain, what do you say?" Chastity placed a hand on Maia's shoulder, trying her best to hide the sadness in her voice.
Maia glared at the palace, "I say, attack!"
We all took off, flying at impossible speeds since we have the help of the Probus. The wind slapped me in the face, cutting into me but anger fueled me, making me fly faster. I could feel a tug on my gut, telling me that I'm using the Probus' powers. The palace came into view. The familiar infrastructure stood tall and proud. The palace was an architectural phenomenon. The virtues and I busted through the door, landing in the middle of the palace. Lucifer sat on his throne, talking to the sins. He noticed out entrance, stood up, beckoning the sins to follow him and approached us. I could see the ichor stain on his armour.
He stood in front of me, on another day I would have felt inferior, weak, powerless, but today, today was the wrong day to mess with me. I was furious, enraged. He had just killed my mother. Yes, I didn't know her but I was finally accepting that my mother was alive. Now, she isn't and her killer is standing right in front of me.
Venom laced my voice, "why did you kill her if you loved her?"
"I didn't mean to kill her," he purred, "but it did make the whole story more...interesting."
"But...You loved her," I spat, discomfort evident in my voice.
"I did...until she married that mortal scum. Why is it that all the powerful girls, gorgeous girls settle for the useless ones; like Valerie and you."
"Me?" I questioned.
"You fell in love with my incompetent son."
My eyes fell onto Wrath for a second. He looked so different. He wasn't the man I fell in love with, the broken man, the man who opened up his heart to me, the man who hated his abusive father, the man who apologized for being a sin, the man within that evil, controlled, manipulated exterior.
I turned back to Lucifer. He noticed my eyes move onto Wrath. A playful smirk played on his lips.
