Prologue
This is a story about a young man by the name of Malum. Now, this young man isn't normal, not by a long shot, most people don't even believe that he exists. Sure his people have been luring men to their deaths for centuries but no one would like to admit that they were more than a myth, a fairy tale of sorts. He lived near a small deserted island, in the center of the Indian ocean. Malum and his many sisters loved to sit on large rocks, letting the morning mist spray their faces as the ocean waves brushed against their tails. Malum loved how dark the ocean looked before sunrise. It was almost as if the world stood still just for him. As mentioned before Malum wasn't normal, even by siren standards. For starters, Malum's a male. How often do you hear of a male siren? But gender aside, Malum was the most beautiful siren ever seen by the living, or the dead. Then again, being the prettiest siren is like being the tallest dwarf. His skin was the color of river stones but with the texture of new made leather, his eyes were like the night of a new moon, his irises so large you could barely see the whites if he had any. He had hair like wet seaweed, with the feel and smell of fish oil. Now, I know what most of you are thinking,
"Leather! Fish oil? Gross!"
Well, suck it up! It's not all about looks you know. Besides, his sisters looked much worse for wear. For a sea creature, he smelled very good. Of course, no one had ever smelled a scent like his so to them, he smelled terrible. But I would say that he smelled like freshly picked raspberries. An odd smell for a sea dweller but as I said,
"He's special."
