CHAPTER 49: APHRODITE AND ARES

❝ get on your knees. ❞

▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

ENOLA IS APHRODITE AND NIKLAUS IN ARES. She is at war with anger and he is at war with love. They make a beautiful mosaic of splintered words and fragmented memories. They had the kind of love that will never die. They have the type of love that could move mountains.

Perhaps that is why Aurora kidnapped Camille. Because she was jealous. Because she knew she would never have a love like that. She needed to feel important and the only way to do that was to make them see how much they needed her. She wanted to be wanted. But they didn't need her. And they sure as hell didn't want her. They were going to make that very clear the moment they got their hands on that spiteful little twit.

"It is typical of Aurora, forcing us to look for one of her needles in a rather vile haystack." Lucien commented.

Enola walked through the streets of New Orleans beside Klaus with Lucien following close behind. They had spent a majority of their search in silence as the sound of jazz music filtered throughout the city. They had no interest in conversing with one another. They all had one simple goal in mind; find Cami before Aurora does something even more psychotic. Though Lucien was a bit of a chatterbox.

"Yes. It is quite the undertaking, made all the more onerous by your incessant chatter." Klaus scowled.

"I speak so that I might be listened to," Lucien defended.

"And yet no one listens," Enola hummed.

"I can see why Nik is so taken with you," Lucien said. "You are mean."

"Thank you," Enola spoke absentmindedly.

"As I was saying—Aurora clearly has some devious plan in mind, which begs the question; given how vindictive she is, why bother playing her game?"

"I'm not playing for her," Klaus answered simply

"Then tell me, what is the best case scenario? You save Cami today, Aurora will just kill her some other time, and you can't very well kill Aurora, given she alone has the information needed to find Rebekah." Lucien ranted.

"I am quite aware of the dilemma, thank you." Klaus scoffed.

"Oh, yet you are still determined to rush into this harpy's trap." Lucien pointed out, quickly maneuvering in front of the determined couple to finally make them stop. "What for? Why do you even care about Cami?"

"I trust her," Klaus said. "Which is more than what can be said of you."

"And you?" Lucien turned to Enola. "Are you okay with how close Nik is with Cami?"

"If anything, I encourage it." Enola shrugged. "Friendships are something sacred. I'm just happy he found someone he can confide in and hear him out. Even if that person isn't me."

"It will always be you," Klaus clarified. "You will always be my closest friend and dearest love."

"Awe," Lucien cooed. "Look at you being all romantic. I don't even think you were this soft with Aurora."

"Shut up, Lucien!"

▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

The silence was deafening. Lucien had surprisingly stayed quiet as Enola and Klaus looked around the quarter for clues. Though Enola wasn't quite sure what to look for. Klaus knew both Camille and Aurora better than she did. So she just followed his lead to a painting that sat on a nearby rack with a bunch of others. He reached out for a lone painting of a woman walking along the empty streets of New Orleans.

"I gave this to Camille as a gift," Klaus informed, flipping the painting over only to be met with a small newspaper clipping on the back.

"Prayers to St. Anne's," Enola read out loud. It was an article about how the church had gone from sacred ground to boxing ring. Though they didn't know that most of the people there were either vampires or training to become vampires.

"So now Aurora has you attending church," Lucien scoffed sarcastically. "Have you not had enough of her leading you on a leash like some lovesick imbecile?"

"I am far from lovesick when it comes to Aurora," Klaus scoffed.

"Right," Lucien nodded. "I keep forgetting that you are happily married. If I didn't know any better, I would say that Camille was your wife."

"Good thing you know better," Enola smiled sweetly.

They continued their walk in silence. Or so Lucien thought. Enola and Klaus were communicating through subtle glances and sly nods. They worked better without all the obnoxious chatter. If they wanted to get things done, they would have to ditch the lost puppy following them from close behind. He just kept ranting and ranting about how foolish they were being. But it was him who followed them into a dank alleyway, no questions asked.

"Will you please listen to me?" Lucien begged. "All I suggest is that we find another way to deal with Aurora than follow blindly along her bread crumb trail."

"You know, even as you talk, I cannot help but recall you were the arrogant wanker who endangered Camille in the first place." Klaus argued, whirling around to face Lucien with a scathing glare.

"Well, better arrogant than foolish!" Lucien shot back in disbelief. "Your judgment is off, my friend, and all because of this mortal girl. I say we let Cami die. All of your secrets and vulnerabilities can die with her." He paused, finally registering that they were missing the third member of their little search party. "Where is—"

Lucien was interrupted by Enola. While he was busy ranting about how stupid this was, she had been able to sneak up behind him and snap his neck. You would think that being as ancient as he was that he would be on his guard.

"Now that we got that out of the way," Enola sighed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Shall we?"

"We shall," Klaus grinned, holding an arm out to Enola who graciously accepted the assistance.

▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

Enola and Klaus knew that Lucien was right. They needed to enact a proper plan. The good news was that they made quite the team. The bad news was that Aurora would probably tear Cami to sheds at the sight of them. Together. They were not sure why Aurora had taken Cami. It could have been because she was jealous of their relationship or because they were holding her brother hostage. Either way, she meant business.

"I will not ask again," Aurora snarled. "Your greatest shame—admit it! And do not bother lying because I will know and then I will end you."

Cami hesitated. She did not want to be having this conversation with a psychopath. She did not want to have any conversation with a psychopath. But here she was. Forced into yet another situation she saw no way out of. Though she knew that she wouldn't be here for long. It was only a matter of time before someone noticed that she was missing.

"Junior year of college, I was arrested for assault." Cami confessed. "Battery."

"Ooh, fabulous." Aurora grinned. "Do go on!"

"It was some guy. He was dating my roommate. She tried to break up with him, so he hit her, broke her nose. I tried to get her to go to the police, the Dean, anybody, but she was too scared. I hated that he was just getting away with it, like nothing ever happened." Cami continued. "I saw him one night at a bar, hitting on a freshman . . . so I took a beer bottle and smashed it in his face." Aurora grimaced for dramatic effect. "The next thing I knew I was kneeling on his chest, and pounding his head into the floor. And by the time they pulled me off of him . . . well, he wasn't laughing."

"You're not ashamed you did it. You're ashamed that you enjoyed it." Aurora pointed out in amusement. "And that is why you study psychology. To understand your own dark impulses."

"Here I thought I was the shrink," Cami muttered sarcastically.

"I know that Nik has no romantic feeling for you. I have known from the beginning." Aurora confessed. "My problem is with the trollop he calls a wife."

"Enola?" Cami furrowed her brows in confusion.

"Yes. Her." Aurora scowled. "You see, my burgeoning respect for you is overshadowed by my somewhat puerile jealousy of her. So I suppose we have reached the inevitable." She threw a knowing glance over her shoulder. "Wouldn't you say, my love?"

Klaus slowly stepped out into the open. His gaze briefly flickered to his therapist as if to make sure she was fine. Thankfully the only damage was a knot the size of a baseball on the side of her head. She would have a nasty headache in the morning.

"Stop this game," Klaus demanded.

"This is not a game, Nik—this is an intervention. You are in danger of losing the love of your life. Me." Aurora claimed sadly. "We are finally together after so long apart, all the world before us. If we can just dodge a few minor obstacles. Like this nuisance of a prophecy, my brother's internment, and the insufferable influence of Elijah. But what I cannot overcome is your affection for someone else."

"It is not just affection, Aurora, it is love." Klaus said.

"If you are so in love, where is she now?" Aurora questioned. "I wouldn't be surprised if she left you. From what I hear, she has quite the habit of running away when things get hard."

"The call is coming from inside the house," Klaus shot back.

"How could you say that?" Aurora asked in disbelief, pulling Cami close. "I have done everything in my power to get you back."

"You kidnapped my sister and dropped her at the bottom of the ocean," Klaus reminded. "Just leave Cami out of this. She has nothing to do with your revenge fantasies."

"You would dare lower yourself to that—that distraction?" Aurora scoffed in disbelief.

"She is my wife!" Klaus growled angrily, attacking Aurora. He pinned her against the nearest wall with his fangs elongated. He was tempted to bite her and let his werewolf venom make its course. But he needed her to find his sister. So instead of killing her, he used his enhanced speed to drag her to a different location.

Cami was about to panic when a familiar head popped out from the back room. She felt her shoulders cave in relief. She thought that she was going to have to walk home alone and risk being the subject of yet another kidnapping. She had enough of that to last her a lifetime.

"Why don't we get you home?" Enola smiled warmly.

"I would like that," Cami nodded gratefully.

"So hungry," A nearby voice groaned. It was then that Enola finally noticed the unconscious bodies that lay sprawled out across the gym. Her worries began to increase when she realized none of them had a heartbeat.

"Please don't tell me . . . " Enola groaned.

"Aurora fed them her blood and killed them," Cami confirmed.

"Do me a favor and close your eyes, okay?" Enola suggested.

Cami hesitated before doing what was told. Enola didn't waste another moment. She tore through her enemy with no hesitation and no second thought. She was covered head to toe in their innards but she still managed to look so breathtakingly beautiful.

▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

Enola took Cami home, making it to the compound just in time to get Hope down for a nap. She had been informed that Tristan had been rescued after a brutal torture session with Hayley who had been spending an uncomfortable amount of time at the compound after Jackson left for the bayou. She wasn't one to gossip, but she heard from Freya that Jackson was pissed at Hayley for spending Thanksgiving with the Mikaelsons. Which was only partially true considering that it wasn't exactly a good hearted meal they shared yesterday evening. Hayley had only shown up for an hour to help them torture information out of Aurora. But even that didn't last long before they learned about what the annoying little wench had done to poor Rebekah.

Enola stepped out of the shower. She wrapped a towel around her body before commencing with her night routine. She only got as far as her skincare before she could hear a knock at her bedroom door. She tightened the towel around herself and stepped out of the bathroom. She was immediately bombarded by the chilly air that drifted in through the open balcony doors. She made her way across her bedroom, opening the door without much of a thought. She paused, eyes wide in surprise at who was on the other side. Though she wasn't sure why she was so surprised considering they had been slowly but surely working things out these past few days.

"Nik," Enola breathed.

Klaus paused at the name Enola had just spoken. She hadn't been able to call him by that old familiar nickname since she returned. He missed it. He missed all of it. Especially waking up next to her. He had spent these last couple of weeks keeping his distance. He didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable. He was just glad that she seemed to be spending more time with him. Even if that time was spent fighting off his evil ex girlfriend.

"Did you need something?" Enola questioned.

"May I . . . " Klaus hesitated. "Come in?"

Enola was silent for a moment before stepping aside to allow Klaus the room to enter. His eyes flickered around the room. The first thing he noticed was that she hadn't unpacked any of her things. They were messily shoved in the duffle bag on the rocking chair in the corner of the room. It had been weeks since she had returned and moved into her own bedroom.

"So," Enola shifted awkwardly on her feet, becoming hyper aware of the fact that she was still in just a towel. "What did you need?"

"Right," Klaus cleared his throat as he turned to face her. He paused upon realizing she was in nothing but a towel, but he kept his gaze focused on her face, not letting it drift a centimeter below her eyes. "I thought you might want to know that I got the latitude from Aurora."

"She told you?" Enola quirked a brow suspiciously.

"Well, no." Klaus answered. "I stole it from her. By looking into her mind."

"Someone has got to teach me that trick," Enola muttered dreamily.

"I can," Klaus volunteered a little too eagerly.

"Don't you have better things to do?" Enola wondered.

"Not right now," Klaus beamed.

"Okay," Enola nodded. "So how, pray tell, does this work?"

"Give me your hands," Klaus instructed Enola. She hesitantly did what he demanded. A chill ran up her spine as they stood only four feet apart. "Come closer." She took a small step forward, causing him to roll his eyes before closing the large gap between them so that they only stood a few centimeters apart. He finally took her hand in his before gently placing them on his temples. "Now open your mind and take me wherever you want to go."

Enola relaxed into Klaus. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander to a place much happier than this. When it felt like a weight had lifted off her shoulders, she opened her eyes to find herself seated in a confessional. The confessional. Her eyes immediately snapped to the wicker screen that was covered by a small curtain. She immediately pulled it away to find him on the other side. His eyes were closed as he leaned back in his seat, a small reminiscent smile on his face.

"Why here?" Klaus breathed.

"Because this is where my mind goes whenever I think of you," Enola confessed.

"You think of me often then?" Klaus leers. "What was I wearing?"

"I don't just think of you often," Enola bit out. "I can't stop thinking of you."

"What's so bad about that?" Klaus inquired.

"Everything," Enola sighed. "Because once I start, I am unable to stop."

"And what if," Klaus began slowly. "What if I never want you to stop?"

"Then I won't," Enola claimed, allowing the imaginary world to fall apart. Her eyes fluttered shut, allowing her to relax a few moments before slowly opening them to find herself face to face with the man she was helplessly in love with.

"Litter monster—"

"Do you want me back?" Enola questioned. Klaus nodded. "Say it."

"I want you back," Klaus whispered. "Please."

"Say it again," Enola demanded.

"Please, love," Klaus implored. "I want you back."

"God," Enola breathed. "You're sexy when you beg."

Enola let go of the towel, but Klaus didn't let his gaze drop once. She tugged at the hem of his shirt and he lifted his arms to give her the access to remove it. Her hands traveled down his bare chest before finding his belt. She kept her eyes on his as she undid the last obstacle to all of her naughty desires. When they were both finally naked, they stood chest to chest. He didn't dare make a single move until she barked out her neck command.

"Get on your knees," Enola commanded.

Klaus didn't need to be told twice. Enola was in charge this time around. He dropped to his knees, allowing her to throw her right leg over his shoulder. He looked up at her, waiting for consent to finally begin what he had been dying to do for weeks. All he needed was a single nod and he was eating her out like he was a starving man on death row. She tossed her head back, crying out in bliss at the feeling of his masterful tongue on her drenched core.

Enola had been sexually frustrated lately. The wind blowing in the right direction could probably get her off at this point. But nothing would ever beat this feeling of him between her thighs. She didn't need him. But she wanted him. She wanted him so bad that it hurt. And now she had him right where she wanted him. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head as she felt the knot in her stomach tightening. He wasn't just some tool that helped her get off. He was the love of her life. And he made a mistake. It was one hell of a mistake, but there were other people more deserving of her anger than him.

Enola moaned loudly when that coil finally snapped. Klaus slowly pulled away with glistening lips and a soft smile. He had missed hearing that sound, knowing that he had been the cause of it. He slowly rose to his feet, letting her take the lead as she guided him over to the bed. She pushed him down, eyes easily falling on his cock. Yes, he was crafted for her and her alone. She climbed onto the bed before slowly wrapping a hand around his thick shaft.

Enola enjoyed the way Klaus tried to suppress a whimper. She slowly began to pump her fist up and down, causing him to tightly grip the bed sheets when all he wanted to be touching was her. He almost lost all self control when she licked a long strip up his veiny cock. He grabbed onto the headboard and tightly closed his eyes when she took him—all of him—into her mouth. She began bobbing her head up and down at a torturous pace. She definitely knew what she was doing. And right when he was about to cum down her throat, she pulled back. He couldn't stop the whine from escaping his lips even if he tried.

Enola climbed further up the bed, making Klaus squirm. She still had a firm grip on his dick as she straddled his waist. She used the tip of his cock to collect the juices gathered on her wet pussy before slowly sinking down. They sighed in unison at the foreign feeling of them being connected. It wasn't until she was fully seated on him that she grabbed his hand, setting them on the dip between her thighs and hips. He seemed a little hesitant to touch her, so she bucked her hips forward and his hands instinctively tightened as he grunted in pleasure. But that was only the beginning.

Enola wrapped a firm hand around Klaus' neck. He opened his mouth to argue with her antics, but the words died on the tip of his tongue when she began to ruthlessly fuck him. Suddenly the hand around his throat felt all the more pleasurable as he began to meet her thrust halfway. She squeezed his neck in warning, forcing him to let her do all the work. And he let her. He let her use him. In fact, he really enjoyed it. The feeling of her taking control. God. It was the most attractive thing he had ever seen her do. And he wanted to see more of it.

The thought of Enola taking control was enough to make Klaus snap. This time it was him moaning loudly as he came inside of her tight cunt. The feeling forced her over the edge too as she made an attempt to clench her thighs together. And when they were finally done, she finally lifted her head to get a good look at him. Only it wasn't what she had expected to see at all.

"Stop looking at me like that," Enola whispered, making no attempt to climb off of him.

"Like what?" Klaus breathed, pulling her closer by the hips.

"Like I'm going to disappear," Enola elaborated, faces hovering inches above him.

"Well, are you?" Klaus inquired softly. "Because last time—"

"I'm not going anywhere," Enola spoke firmly. Klaus looked unconvinced. She leaned in, capturing his lips in a soft but passionate kiss before slowly pulling back to look at him. "I promise."
