🤎Mourning over open wounds(63)🤎
Author POV
He was sitting on the tool beside her bed. His eyes were immovable only eyeing at her unconscious body. Though he seemed to be solid in his position, his heart was yearning to hear her sweet voice, hold her in his arms and kiss her senselessly. He had been waiting for her to wake up soon but she refused to open her eyes as if she was aware about what she was going to know after she would wake up. In these two days, he never left her side. He had broken down into cries whenever he had recalled about her disability to be a mother. Siddharth and Ralph were there to support him in those moments. After hearing such news, he had become paralyzed with fear. Fear of losing Mallika. His eyes were red due to being sleep deprived for many days.
He was waiting for her to open her eyes, call his name and embrace him tightly. He missed her. He couldn't bear the silence whenever he would be with her. He missed how she used to throw her tantrums and sarcastic comments whenever he would do anything. He missed her sweet and caring side along with her heart-melting gestures towards him. He terribly missed their arguments, her banters and also those sad moments. Her face was reminding of her constant stream of rhythmic memories. If he would have the power, he would have simply gone back to the past and would have done anything to reverse the situation. But he couldn't do so. He might be a powerful gang leader as well as a billionaire but he could never be a life-saver. He knew that it was practically his fault that they had lost their child.
As if reading his mind, Mallika stirred in her sleep. Sumedh immediately noticed her movements and held her hand in his quickly standing up from the tool.
"Angel" He whispered, his eyes raking over her face impatiently taking in her features. He leaned a little closer to her face and rubbed his other arm on her wrist. She let out a shaky breath and a frown came up on her face.
"Mallika, you are awake."
Her eyelids fluttered open and she blinked her eyes trying to adjust with the brightness. Her eyes landed on the pair of hazel green orbs which were staring at her with so much intensity. A smile instantly tugged up to her lips seeing him beside her.
"Sumedh" She said in her small raspy voice.
"Finally! You are awake. I was so worried about you. You got us scared, babe." He whispered and pressed a kiss on her forehead. She placed her palm on his left cheek caressing his skin.
"Are you OK?" She asked, her voice shaking due to the effect of wounds on her body.
"Shut up!" He sat beside her on the bed. "You are the one who was struggling with your life just hours ago and now you are asking me if I am fine."
He shook his head rolling his eyes at her. Then he slowly helped her to sit up on the bed. Circling his arm around her shoulder,he supported her to sit properly.
"I am here, baby." He replied as he pressed a small kiss on the side of her hair. She hummed in response and nuzzled her face into his neck more. They remained silent for the next few minutes only listening to their heartbeats. On the other hand, Sumedh was preparing himself to reveal her the truth. He definitely wouldn't be a fool to hide the truth from her. He was going to tell the truth whatever it would cost instead.
Mallika could sense the tense mood of Sumedh. She all of a sudden noticed that something seemed weirdly off today. Then she remembered how she had revealed the truth of her pregnancy to Sumedh. Her eyes widened in realisation and she glanced at her stomach. Something seemed unnatural. Why wasn't he talking anything about the baby? Was he reluctant to show any reaction on the news or didn't he want to take any responsibility of a baby right now? She thought in her mind.
She couldn't figure out what was happening. A frown creased on her forehead and she turned to face Sumedh who looked dazed as if he was not here.
"Sumedh, won't you speak anything about what I said then?" She slowly asked, her eyes glimmering in hope of hearing something positive and happy news.
"About what?" He turned to face her.
"Umm..m" She hesitated a bit and then lowered her lashes.
"About the baby" She replied. His eyes widened and he became frozen in the spot. Taking a shallow breath, he released a sigh of contempt. He concluded in his mind that it was probably the time he should disclose the truth.
"Mallika,I need to tell you something." He said with a lot of hesitation. He could feel his rapid heartbeat and his clammy palms due to sweating.
"Mallika, you had a mis...
Before he could complete the sentence, the door barged open and a doctor came walking inside the room.He smiled at Mallika seeing her awake.
"So you are awake,Mrs. Spencer. I hope that you are feeling alright now." He said coming forward to stand up beside her bed. He checked on her pulse and pressed his back hand to check if she had got a fever. Mallika nodded her head slowly in approval. After making sure that she was fine, he nodded his head.
"So, I hope that you have got the news already,Mrs. Spencer. I am truly sorry for your loss. We have tried to the best of our ability to save the baby but the damage was too big. I don't know how you are handling the emotional damage. It must be very painful for a mother..
"Shut up and get out!" Sumedh interrupted his ramble in the middle by shouting loudly at him.The doctor looked at him wide eyed while he gave him the deadliest glare in his direction. Without saying anything,he hurriedly went out of the room leaving Sumedh and Mallika alone.
"Fucking idiot!" He cursed under his breath and turned to face her. He swallowed when he found her eyes fixed on him. Her eyes were filled with grief and queries.
"Mallika, he..." Before he could say anything, Mallika stopped him.
"What did he just say now? What does he mean that I have lost something. About which loss is he talking about?" She asked straightly without any waver. Deep down in heart, she had already understood what the doctor meant. But she was not ready to be convinced that whatever she was expecting was actually true. A part of her wanted to believe Sumedh that he would clarify everything that nothing was wrong.
"Mallika, we lost the baby. You had a miscarriage." He finally uttered the most pessimistic words taking away her breath.
A great pang gripped her heart feeling the rising and choking sense of despair of crushing loss. Her eyes quickly pooled with tears making her tremble in her position. He instantly tried to reach her but she pushed him away slumping on the bed.
"Mallika, I know what you are feeling. It's painful. But you have to accept the reality. We can never be parents again, Mallika." He murmured another brutal truth to her even though he didn't want to see her like this. He had no other choice. He didn't not want to hide anything because after a certain period of time, she would surely come to know this truth and d it would break her completely then. So it was better for her to know everything right now.
Mallika looked up to meet his eyes hearing his words. Her tear-stricken eyes narrowed in his direction asking through her eyes to confirm the truth.
"Yes, it's true, Mallika. You can never be a mother." He confirmed her unspoken fear.
She felt her world collapsing infront of her as she heard the truth. She could feel heart squeezing in deep agony in anticipation. She shook her head in denial without reacting anything exceot for sitting there. Long silence prevailed the room as she kept looking at nowhere be exact and him lowering his eyes towards his lap.
It took her a minute to come back from the shock and she broke down completely in utter anguish. She cried out loudly without any care. Sumedh immediately attempted to hold her hands but she pried them away scooting away from him as she continued to cry. Sobs wrecked through her body completely shaking her. The endless amount of tears continued to stream down her eyes wetting her cheeks on the process. Her face flushed with red as she looked very pale with her gloomy expression. She clasped her palm on her mouth in order to decrease the pain but the emotional pain of losing a child as well as losing the capability to be a mother seemed pierce deeply through her soul.
She tried to stop her sobs but they seemed to increase more with the passing of times. She swallowed down her saliva in attempt to somehow to cease the tormenting misery. Her chest felt the hollowness and vacant with the thoughts of losing their baby.
She wanted to accuse the fate for this cruel situation. But she was aware that it was she who had braught it upon herself. It was she who decided to rescue Sumedh. It was she who had decided to be a part of Sumedh's life. Sumedh had tried to set her free and he had given her the opportunity too but she never listened to her.It was never anyone's fault but her. Now she was the reason that Sumedh would never be a father.
As those thoughts clouded in her brain, it made her to clutch her head. Sumedh didn't waste any time and quickly pulled her closer to his chest disregarding her weak attempts to pull away.
"Wh-y Sumedh? W..why d..id it ha-happen to us-us?" She meekly said. She was not in any condition to speak anything. Sumedh felt his eyes watering with her question. Same question he was prolonging to ask the almighty who was never in their favour. His heart tugged with fresh pain of the huge loss. He blinked his tears not to break down as she was now his priority at first.
"It's so painful, Sumedh. " She said ,her eyes still shedding endless amount of tears. She clutched the collar of his shirt tightly pressing her face on his chest. He pulled her body on his holding her on his lap as he tried to provide her the comfort as much as possible.
This pain was not bearable for both of them. They both accused themselves for this cruel reality. This news had ripped out both of their souls but they would eventually mend the amends and their broken hearts.

Siddharth and Avneet who were watching the scene unfolding infront of them from the glass door of the cabin, had tears in their eyes. They wanted to go and console both of their friends but they wanted to give them space to cope up with situation and with the harsh reality. Avneet slowly looked up to face Siddharth who was looking no less anxious than Sumedh.
"You know what, there is a say - TIME HEALS EVERYTHING. But it's not at all correct approach. It's not the applicable for our Sumedh and Mallika. They need to confront each other. And most importantly, they need to accept the bitter reality. Time always does not heal everything but acceptance will heal them." She said looking at them and wiped the tears away from her eyes.

I apologise that this chapter is very short and quite boring I guess. Today, I have got many messages from my readers and friends from both Instagram and Wattpad wishing me birthday. And trust me, I am grateful beyond words for all of your sweet gesture. So I took out some times to write a new chapter for you all as a treat from my side.
I know that this chapter is sad which definitely doesn't go with the birthday vibes. However, try to comprehend with it. I will come back after March again with a new chapter. My next exam is exactly after 3 days.
And your author is now legally adult. Yep, I have turned 18 today. *grins*
Anyways, thank you again for wishing me. Lots of loves.
