Alexander Lightwood felt contained his entire life. It was as if his parents had shoved him in a container with expectations, standards and responsibilities. Then, they had locked that container and threw the key away. The only way out of that box was to get accepted into a college away from home and a high school degree. Luckily for Alec, he was an outstanding student. His grades were top of the class, he was varsity captain for two teams, archery and basketball and he was valedictorian of his graduating class. All things put together, Alec had gotten accepted into Yale with a full scholarship.

Alec was packing up his things and coming with him, was his best friend, Jace. Jace was also quite the impressive student. His grades were on the higher ranks and he too was varsity captain of the football team, baseball team and the water polo team. Alec and Jace had been best friends since kindergarten. Jace had gotten accepted into Yale with almost full coverage.

"Hey, you have everything?" Jace asked as he knocked on Alec's door.

Alec taped a box closed and nodded. Jace came in and helped Alec take his boxes downstairs. Jace was already ready. He and Alec were driving to Yale by car from New York.

As soon as Alec and Jace had finished packing up the car, they closed the trunk and Alec made his way inside to say goodbye to his family. Jace's family had also shown up. The two boys approached their parents.

Jace hugged his mother and father. Whereas Alec's mom hugged him and Alec's dad shook his hand and patted his back. It would have been nice if his dad had hugged him too.

"Do us proud son." Alec's dad said as he pated Alec's shoulder. Alec gave a single nod and he saw tears creep upon his mother's eyes.

"I'm going to miss you." Maryse Lightwood said.

"Me too." Alec said as he smiled.

In came Isabelle, crying. "Alec! Jace!" she ran in. Alec and Jace immediately turned around to see Isabelle crying. They immediately ran over to her.

Jace and Alec had been like brothers and Isabelle warlike both Jace and Alec's little sister. They both would protect her at any cost.

She threw herself on both of them. The boys fell onto the floor with Isabelle on top of them. Her arms wrapped around them and her face dug into Alec's chest. Jace ran his hair through Isabelle's hair and shushed hr.

The three got up and Isabelle hugged each of them, properly.

"Promise me, you'll come visit." she whispered with her head hanging low. The two boys looked at each other and smiled. They ducked down to meet Isabelle's eyes, each of them placed a hand on her shoulder and nodded.

"We promise." they said in unison. Isabelle gave them one last hug and walked them outside.

The two boys got into the car and looked at each other.

"You ready?" Jace asked.

"As I'll ever be." Alec said as he was putting on his seatbelt. Jace nodded and started the car. They waved goodbye to Isabelle once more and drove off.

Magnus Bane, was a rather complicated man. He had a rough and traumatic childhood and to cover his inner sadness and abandonment, he used glitter and makeup. Magnus' fatherhood left him and his mother at a young age and Magnus had felt useless and unwanted ever since. Magnus' mom had done everything and anything to protect Magnus. She made countless sacrifices and worked immensely hard to get where she is today.

Though Magnus felt alone, he sure did not seem as though he was. He had many 'friends.' They had only hung out with him because he was popular. They were never really his friends. He had one friend, Catarina. Magnus used that abandonment and his vulnerability in his writing. Magnus was a lovely writer. Everything was so thought provoking and so profound.

Though he was a distracted student in everything else and did not care for school, his writing was so incredible and he excelled extremely high in it, he was accepted into Yale for it.

Magnus knew this was his one chance to explore himself and who he wants to be through his writing. He immediately took the chance and his mother was beyond excited for him.

Magnus closed the trunk of his car and went to say goodbye to his mother before he drove off to Yale.

"I love you, Mom." Magnus said to her, whilst hugging her.

Magnus felt something wet on his shoulder and he figured it was his mother crying. He pulled away and looked down to see her. She was hiding her face and Magnus pulled her face up. She wiped her tears and cleared her throat.

"I love you too, honey." she said, weakly.

"I promise to call and to write and I will visit any chance I get." Magnus said to her, grabbing her shoulder. Magnus' mom nodded and Magnus hopped into the car.

Jace and Alec had arrived Yale a day before their orientations. They made their way to their dorms to check in.

"Hi, we're here to check in, Alexander Lightwood and Jace Herondale." Alec said to the lady at the counter of the door.

"One second." she replied. She typed their names into her computer and printed two documents. She handed one to each of them.

Alec and Jace both grabbed a document and when they both saw their roommate name, they shrieked.

"We were supposed to be together!" Jace complained to the lady at the desk.

"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about it." she shrugged.

Jace and Alec were furious.

"My dorm is 109." Alec said.

"Mine is 110." Jace said.

"At least we are next door." Alec shrugged hopefully.

Jace nodded and the two went back to the car to grab all of their belongings.

"Who's your roommate?" Alec asked Jace as they were carrying their boxes to their dorms.

"Some guy named Simon Lewis. How about you?" Jace said, annoyed.

"Someone named Magnus Bane." Alec shrugged.

The two approached their dorms and there were two people standing in fronton their doors too.

Alec saw one of them stand in between Jace and his door. and was loss for words. The boy was absolutely beautiful. He was different. When he saw him, Alec's heart skipped a beat. The way he was so confident and the way he was smiling was so genuine, it was as if Alec was looking for this person his entire life. He prayed this was not Simon.

Magnus met eyes with a boy walking towards him and his eyes were to die for. The way his messy and gorgeous raven locks draped over his eyes and his lips looked so soft and plump. He had a shyness to him that was adorable and Magnus knew he had to know this person. He prayed he was his roommate.

Magnus extended his arm and said, "Hi, I'm Magnus."

Alec stammered when he saw him, "A-Alec. I-I'm y-your r-roomate." Alec said very difficulty.

Alec's heart jumped when he said 'Magnus.' This gorgeous human was his roommate.

"You okay, buddy?" Jace asked Alec. Alec looked at him and nodded.

"This is Simon." Jace continued. Alec shook hands with him.

"T-this is M-Magnus." Alec said. Magnus smiled at Alec and Alec felt as if he had just died inside. Jace and Magnus shook hands.

Jace knew Alec was gay. He was one of the two people. Jace and Isabelle were the only ones Alec trusted to tell. Jace smirked at Alec. Alec knew exactly what it meant. He shot back a glare and Jace laughed.
