Two Step (2)

A/N: Originally I made Prom two weeks from the current point in the story, but I made a change and it is now Friday.

3rd Person POV

Wendy wasn't particular fond of Vanessa. She couldn't place her finger on it, but she never really liked the girl. "So...what did you need to say?" Wendy looked back at Y/N, but the "special" moment between them was ruined by her. "It... It can wait. I need to help Pepper with her puking problem. Hehe... Puking Pepper Problem..." She quickly hopped off the table, walking over to her partner who was in need of mouthwash, a toothbrush, and anything that was useful for cleaning mouths. "Are you two an item?"

Y/N's eyes went wide for a split second. "W-What? Of course not. I mean, Wendy's a wonderful girl, but I..."

"But you what? You guys would look so cute together." In all honesty, that actually hurt Y/N a bit. He didn't want to be a cute couple with Wendy, but with her. "Well I... I actually have a thing for someone else..." Vanessa looked around for a moment before smiling "Are they in here?" Yes. Despite how much he really wanted to say it, he knew he had to wait until a certain day. "It's kind of a secret. Can't let anybody know..."

"Well when will you tell her? It has to be soon."
"I... I'll tell her when I'm ready."
"And what if she's taken already?"

This question nearly made his heart stop. What if Vanessa already had someone? "I... I-I..." She tilted her head "You don't know. Well if she is, at least let her know, okay?" Vanessa put her hand on his shoulder, giving him one of her classic smiles "O...Okay."

With Wendy

Wendy frowned as she overheard Y/N and Vanessa's conversation. Today was supposed to be the day she confessed to him and it was all thanks to Vanessa that nothing went according to plan. "I should be talking with him, not you..." After making sure that Pepper was okay to do things on her own, Wendy walked out of class so she wouldn't have to see Vanessa with Y/N. "Can't tell him now. Maybe I can tell him after class? No... No it wouldn't be the best time. Maybe... Maybe prom? Why is this so hard to decide?!"

Time Skip (After school)

School for Y/N had been rather uneventful. The only thing that he could highlight would be when Vanessa talked to him. Surprisingly, they did talk a few more times after Culinary and it did put him in a great mood. As he grabbed his book bag, he noticed that Wendy was slowly making her way towards him "Hey Wendy. Do you remember what you were going to tell me?" She opened her mouth, only to immediately shut it. She shook her head, but she gave him a large grin "Sorry, I'm quite forgetful. I just came up to you to ask you if you were going to prom?"

"...Why?"
"I'm just curious. I asked your friend and he wasn't sure about it."
"Quentin? He... He isn't really that confident, but I'm pretty sure he'll go."
"So...are you going?"
"I don't see why not."
"Great! Now I'll at least have two people to go with."
"Wait a-"
"See ya N/N!"

Before Y/N could even question her, she walked off at a faster pace than usual. "...Did she just ask me to... Nah..." Once he shut his locker, he felt someone tapping his shoulder. "Hey Y/N." The lovestruck teen froze at the sound of Vanessa's voice. It would seem as if this day wasn't as boring as he perceived it to be. "H-Hey."

"I... I noticed that you and Wendy were talking. She seemed rather...happy." She giggled and smiled "Are you sure you two aren't a thing? From what I've seen the cute moments just get cuter." Y/N could feel his cheeks warm up the more the conversation went on "I-I'm sure we aren't. She... She was just asking about prom and..."

"And?" Vanessa tilted her head and Y/N's heartbeat increased.
"And... She was wondering if I was going?"
"Are you?"
"Y-Yeah, but I don't have a date."
"Well...neither do I."

Apparently his heart was going so fast that it eventually felt as if it had stopped "W-What?" Vanessa nodded, looking down at the ground "I...I was wondering if..." She looked up at him and as soon as she opened her mouth, her phone went off. "I...hold on." Y/N's gaze never seemed to leave Vanessa when she turned around to answer her call. "Hello... I'm still here... Are you sure? I mean I could... Al...alright. Okay, but... Fine, I'll see you when I leave." Once Vanessa ended the call, she sighed "I... I gotta go. See ya Y/N."

As Vanessa left, the gears in Y/N's head finally turned. "W-Wait she didn't finish her statement!" She... She was going to ask him. Vanessa was going to ask him to prom...and she forgot to finish her sentence...
