Cause I commonly see RWBY  stories like this, I'll use that as an example.

Abused/Neglected Male Reader was adopted by the Rose/Xiao Long family (The most overused family for these stories.) Every day the family would beat him because Summer died and they blamed him. They locked him in his room every day because they are sadistic bastards for no reason at all.

Abused & Neglected Male Reader: "Every day they beat me for no reason! Now I'm an edgy character because of this and I want to kill them!"

More and more A/N Male Reader would be abused and got less love than Ruby and Yang because they are pricks like Cooler. One day because the reader finally had enough because he couldn't have left any sooner, he left a note for them and packed his stuff and left.

The following morning Yang went to his room because she is a little twat and wants to bully Abused and Neglected Male Reader.  She knocked the door open because she is an impatient little prick who wanted to show off her new stuff; plus call him down for breakfast even though they barely fed him.

She saw that Abused and Neglected Male Reader was gone so she now all of sudden starts caring he is gone because the plot demands it. The whole family is alerted and they all apparently care about him even though they abused and neglected him.

Yang: "HE'S GONE! WE HAVE TO FIND HIM! Probably because we are going to say we want to treat him better but more than likely he'll just try to kill us."

Tai: "I'm a monster! Because I took it out on him because my wife died even though he wasn't the cause of her death and I'm terrible at grieving. Plus I manipulated my daughters to beat him every day."

Ruby: *Sad Child Noises

Timeskip Because Why The Fuck Not!

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "Now I'm OP and edgy! Plus I hate my family! Did I tell you I was edgy?"

Abused and Neglected Male Reader was now a student at beacon where he'll meet Ruby and Yang again because of the plot. Yang and Ruby see him and run over to him.

Yang: "Abused and Neglected Male Reader! We've missed you! Let's tell dad and we can be a family again."

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "No because I'm edgy and want your heads mounted on a wall."

Ruby: *Ruby Noises

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "I want to drink your blood because that's edgy!"

Yang: "Crap he's edgy and pissed at us! Though we deserve it!"

Ruby: *More Ruby Noises

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "Okay I forgive you! Let's fuck!"

Yang: "I'm down even though we're siblings!"

Now Abused and Neglected Male Reader has a harem of women because the plot demands it. They all had an orgy, Abused and Neglected Male Reader killed Tai Yang, Qrow is still drunk, Raven is some reason in the harem.

Pointless Flashback

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "You abused me! Neglected me! You lied to me!"

Tai: "Stop Abused and Neglected Male Reader, I can explain!"

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "I was just a child!"

Abused and Neglected Male Reader stabs Tai in the chest with an edgy looking sword.

Tai: "I'm sorry, I wasn't myself! Even though I had no reason to abuse you but I did it because I'm a prick!"

Abused and Neglected Male Reader: "DIE!"

Abused and Neglected Male Reader performs a Mortal Kombat fatality on Tai Yang. The end of this edgy story.
