Coming Home (Male Reader Soldier)
Quick Author note- I don't know much about the army and what not so don't expect this to be super realistic
Bullet wheezed by my head as I ran undercover. It was happening so fast. Large explosions surrounded me as I fiddled with my rifle. I loaded a full magazine into it as I primed the gun.
I take a moment of self-reflection before I start unleashing the cause of someone's death. In less than a second, I overcame the fear of killing someone...and I opened fire.
I couldn't hear the gun as it fired away, the explosions already had my ears in shock and they were ringing so loud I didn't hear anything other than the voice inside my head.
I targeted down multiple people with rifles as I opened fire upon them. Breath. Breath
The gunstock pushed against my shoulder lightly as the gunshot deadly projectiles toward the enemy.
The gun stopped firing as I once again ducked to reload
"(Y/N)!" My Sargent screams as I ready another round of bullets into the gun
"We're pulling out!" I can hear him say faintly as he makes the hand signals for covering fire. I started unleashing bullets once again as we navigated around the deadly battle zone.
We got to the vehicles we came here on and we took off.
"Command....we failed," the Sargent says as the vehicle suddenly jumps and my vision fades to back.
"(Y/N) come on," my wife says as we run along the trail
"What are you talking about," I say
"You need to remember it's not just you anymore," I tell her as I point to a beach for her to sit down
"Oh come on, a little run won't hurt a baby," she says as I look at her doubtfully
"Seriously," she says with a bright smile
"Plus, this is the last time we will be able to do stuff like this before you get deployed," she says
"Yea, I promise I'll come back when little miss tucker is born," I say as she leans her head on my shoulder
"What if its a boy," she says
"Na," I mutter as I close my eyes
I groan as my head hurts as if a freight train hit me. I struggled to open my eyes...but I didn't need my eyes to see where I was.
The room was pitch black...and I could feel my hands were strung up and I was hanging by them.
The room filled with light as my eyes squinted.
A man walked in, speaking a language I didn't know.
"I'm English," I say in a croaky voice. The man laughs as he continues talking. I couldn't understand his language...but I could understand his eyes...I was going to be here for a long time
10 years later
I sat in my prison cell. It was dark as normal. I forget the last time I've seen the outside world. The only treatment I got was a small cup of water and a piece of bread. I need to Keep going...don't forget what you have at home
A beautiful wife, and a child too. I remember, I would dream of the day I would become a dad...this isn't how I planned it out to be though. I want to see my child smile as I do stuff with her...I want to be happy...I want us to be happy
The cell door open as my attention was fixed on a man standing there.
He began speaking as he grabbed my arm as hoisted me up. My body has become frail and I couldn't walk for extended periods due to malnourishment.
I felt a bag put over my head as I was put into a car.
I could hear them speaking a foreign language I was never able to learn. I haven't heard a word of English in the past 10 years.
"Going home," I hear a heavily unknown accented voice
"Home?" I asked
"Yes, trade-off," he says as I nod and remain silent.
The car stops as I'm roughly thrown from the car. They grabbed me and slowly we walked.
I could hear them talking...and one of them had an English accent as they spoke a language I couldn't understand
Finally, the hands let go of me and another pair of hands took their place...they were more gentle than the others. Even then, I could feel myself get thrown around a bit as I was put on a metal surface...and then the bag came off
My eyes instantly went pure white as I grunted and covered them. Slowly, they became used to the bright light of the sun and I could spot where I was
I was on a helicopter, and a group of Americans surrounded me
"You're going home," one of them tells me. My lips crack as I smile. Finally
I'll be able to see them.
"In today's news, the US Army has saved a lone soldier who has been taken prisoner for over 10 years. Today he arrives in his country for the first time in over a decade,"
The airport was strange. I was dressed in normal army clothes as I was bewildered by the glossy floor of the building...the tall walls that seemed to go up to the sky.
I looked around and there were people everywhere going on about their day as if nothing in the world mattered...I suffered for you.
My brain froze as it thought of those 4 words...I choose to do that.
"(Y/N)," I hear a voice. I look and it's a pretty woman...just how I remember her...my wife
"Vanessa," I say as I notice the differences. She had an older vibe about her...but still looked young
"It's nice to see you again," she says
"Yea," I mutter
"So is t--" I began but she cut me off
"We can continue in the car?" She asks as I nod
We walk out of the airport and head toward a car. I was looking for our old SUV. But she stopped in front of a nice BMW
"Is this yours?" I ask as she nods
"How'd we afford that?" I ask she gets in the car and shuts the door.
"Ok," I mutter amazed that she just ignored me
I walk to the passenger side and open the door and get in
Before I even put my seatbelt on, Vanessa started talking
"I'm married to someone else," she begins as I feel my world start crashing down
"What?" I ask thinking she was joking
"You were gone for 10 years and I found someone I loved," she says as my head goes hollow
"Your joking?" I mutter as she shakes her head
"I'm sorry...but I just don't love you anymore," she says as she grabs a photo and shows it to me.
She was with another man...with the biggest smile I've ever seen
"We've rented an apartment for you until you get started again," she says as I blink in disbelief
"What about our kid?" I begin to ask as she looks down
"It was a girl," she says
"You know it was a girl and it was," she says looking at me
"After you went missing, I was a mess...the only thing that helped me was forgetting about you," she says as my heart gets ripped in half
"So, when our daughter was born...I gave her up. She was put up for adoption...I couldn't live with anything that you were related to," she says as I sit back in the car. Tears threatened to stream out...but I had none left after 10 years of sadness...after 10 years of knowing all the stuff I was missing
"So if I'm being honest...you appearing again out of nowhere...is probably one of the worst things that have happened to me," she says with a hint of anger in her voice
"Everything was going great. We had 3 kids, and we were happy...then you appeared and he started having doubts...so I'm here to tell you...I don't love you anymore," she says
"Thanks for your honesty. I've always liked that you were straight forward," I say as she starts driving. We didn't talk the whole time. We appeared at a small apartment building and I grabbed all my stuff
"Goodbye," she says flatly as she drives away.
"Bye," I say as I just stand there. Just keep moving forward....just keep moving forward I remind myself as I walk into the building, it was small. But had everything you would need.
After I was unpacking as sat in my bed with my head in my hands.
"As if things couldn't get worse," I mutter as I feel the sudden urge to hit something. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I could feel my fists curl up as I raise my head ready to unleash my rage...but I stayed put
Breath...Breath.
I calmed myself down
I have nothing...nothing at all.
I went to sleep feeling ashamed. Ashamed of my sudden urges of anger at some points. I can hear gunshots, I can hear the screams of torture as I rain bullets down on people. I can hear the life get sucked out of them.
I wake up in the morning as I think of what I need to do. Find a job is the most important...no.
Much like the day before, I put my head in my hands as I think.
The most important thing is finding my daughter.
The next few weeks were consumed by asking around. And in my the free-time I got a job at the local car shop. Finally, I got a lead
"Yes, we do," a man at the front counter says
"Really? Do you know what happened to the child?" I ask he looks at me
"I'm afraid we can't tell you personal information," he says as my head drops drown in defeat
"You know, that girl is my daughter...I haven't even seen her once you know...instead I was fighting a pointless war half the world half and got tortured for 10 years," I mutter as I walkout
"Wait a minute sir. If your the father, I'm sure we might be able to arrange something," he says as I look at him
"Really?" I ask as he nods
"As long as the foster mother agrees, everything will be good," he says as I smile
"Thank you," I say as he smiles
"Give us your phone number and we will arrange something," he says
"Thank you so much," I continue.
It didn't take long for them to get back to me. They arranged a meeting and the world seemed to have lightened up for the first time since leaving that dark pit I was in.
Before I knew it. I was standing in front of a house
"Breath...Breath," I say as I steady my nervousness.
I kept breathing in and out as I readied myself for what was to come
??? POV
"Calm down you'll be fine," I say as the 10-year-old girl was pacing around
"What if I'm not what he expects...what if he doesn't like me," she says pacing around the kitchen
"Oh come on, I don't mean to sound rude...but you've lived 10 years without him m. If he wanted to walk in and then walk right out. It doesn't affect you," I tell her while I have a soft smile on my face
If I'm being honest. I'm as nervous as she is. I raised her, and the thought of her father just walking back into her life scares me. The thought of having her taken away is terrifying. I've become almost dependent on her and I love her to pieces...I easily love her as much I would my own child...if I had one that wasn't her that is
The doorbell suddenly goes off and she jumps in her socks
"Calm down, your only 10, there's no need to be so scared," I say as I hug her quick
I walk to the door, and with one final breath, I open it.
A man stood formally in front of me, his expression was blank. His eyes pierced mine as they seemed to be scanning for something...of course, they are, after all his daughter is in here.
"Hello, I'm Daisy," I introduce myself
"(Y/N)," He says in an almost military
"She's been very excited to meet you," I say as something lights up in his eyes
"Really?" He asks unsure
"Very much so, came on in," I say as I invite him inside. He walked in and takes off his boots
"She's very nervous to meet you," I say as he nods
"Cassy!" I call out
"Her name is Cassy?" He asks nervously.
"Yea," I say with a smile. He's just as nervous as all of us
Slowly, a head with brunette hair poke around the corner as her body follows
"So you're my dad," she says awkwardly.
I look at the man and if I'm being honest. I almost cried when I saw him. The look in his eyes, the shape of his face, he looked like he was reborn he was so happy. But he kept his emotions in check and covered them up shortly after expressing them
"Yea, yes I am...can I take a sit," he asks as I laugh a bit
"Stunned by her beauty," I tease him as I lead him to the couch.
"Perhaps," he says as he slowly lowers himself
"I don't mean to be rude, my head was just getting light that's all," he says
"You're not rude all," I answer as Cassy sits across from him
There was silence for a while
"I'm sorry, I'm not much of a talker anymore," he says
"We all have our moments," I say as Cassy looks at me nervously
"He didn't walk right out did he," I joke as she blushes a bit. He seemed to grab what I was referring to and chuckled a bit
"You know, I spent the past 10 years in hell, and this easily makes it all worth it," he says with a sort of smile on his face. A smile that shows every bit of what he is feeling right now. He is truly happy
Looking at Cassy, I can tell what she wants to ask him. So I nod my head telling her to just ask him
"Why was I put up for adoption?" She asks plainly
"Well, to tell you the truth, I had no say in it," he says as both me and Cassy look confused
"I was a soldier, and for the past 10 years I was held captive," he says as my face softens up a bit. My eyes trail to his figure. He was lean, when I first saw him I thought it was because he was using drugs and finally got off them and came to his senses...it appears I was wrong.
Cassy's eyes wandered over her father as I smile
"Cassy has always been a fan of the military," I say. It's fitting for her father to be an ex-soldier
But I also smile a bit. He's never forgotten about his daughter.
She was on his mind the whole time
Thanks for reading this little story I put together. The idea just kinda popped into my head so I figure I would write about it. One of the main reasons I started writing my own books is because I never could find a book that had a story I wanted. Anyway, as things stand that's the ending, however, if you want me to make this into a multi-part story I will gladly write another part about the events after this. If you want it to continue, just comment. Yes, it's as easy as that, I see and mostly respond to every comment so leave one or two. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it
