27.january || maps for dnd
so here we are again with something rather different!
man.... really be changing things up atm >w<
either way, you guys probably know that i like dnd and that i am one individual who has gotten the curse of the forever-dm laid on them.
now, i started my current campaign off with a map i made for a different campaign beforehand...
and then in the last two/three sessions stuff got kinda wild and the players became A LOT more dependant on maps, including a magical wall-painting one of them had found in a cave.
so i went ahead and.. you know... roughly copied the borders of the old map onto a new krita file, to finally make something that the players could work better with, and that they could mark as they wished, since the old one still had markers from an old campaign everywhere ^-^""
so!
directly after finishing that, i went over the thing, and drew the simplified, magical version of the map, which included some non-existent island, a huge canyon and a few marked spots n stuff...
yeah words are hard, so here ya go with that one:
essentially the main plan was to make the whole thing look mystic, hiding the meaning behind something larger... since that's what it does, ya know?
anyways!
after i finished that one, i went back to the actual map and added the basic details and textures i always add...
so we have a brown for the landmass, a blue for the ocean and gradients around the coastline for added effect, before yeeting a parchment texture on top of the whole thing.
really simple step, but it does indeed help a lot to make it feel more.. idk.... real? adventurous? idk.... it just looks better ig xD
and then...
well... then i added the details for the map itself... as per usual when it's about dnd i like to go for a more simplistic approach, since the map needs to be available and usable as fast as possible, and too many details not only take time, but also clarity away from the players.
when it's about the maps for my novels... yeah i do like some fancy details in there >w<
anyways!!
since we started to play with the old map, i couldn't just change things up, so i essentially copied the information we already had there, just adding some more details, some lables, etc.
and that was that!
again.... not too special, since it's just a happy little map i drew in like.. an hour... maybe an hour and a half. and that's mainly just because i got distracted with overlays and effects on the stone map thingy >w<
hope you liked it nonetheless and are willing to see some more maps come along, since oh boy... i'm working on quite a lot of them right now.
