aw man... gotta love feeling ill, eh?

either way... remember that lineart i made for a contest at the beginning of this month? yeah... the second part started, where we are able to colour the linearts of other participants :D

did a real nasty cough, my crippling dysphoria (someone pls tell me how to unsubscribe from those monthly blood-sacrifices... i'd rather not -_-") and some bad depression and anxiety really steal my motivation? yeah...

usually i've gotten all my deadlines down but this time around i confused quite some of them...

and when i saw the other options.... dang everyone got so insanely creative. i silently prayed to get the lineart that tiri14 came up with... and... well... all the heavens seemed to have aligned on that fateful day, for i did, in fact, get the lineart that instantly caught my eye.

so here we are, with this hella cool and interesting... thing... still not too sure what it is, but it looks awesome :0

now... this whole project turned out to be a lot more difficult that i thought it would be...

my main issue was with the lineart. you guys know how i make my lineart very rough, but rather detailed, now... this one was the exact opposite of that >w<
very clean, with not too much detail. so when it came to the coloration i on the one hand had a lot of creative freedom, but on the other hand less guidance of structure, than i am used to.

it did take me a while to get the structure and texture of everything right because of that, and even though i had a ton of fun with everything and do like the result... some areas still look rather flat... or at least not the way i wanted them to T-T

either way, i decided to go with a black and red approach, since those colours are just amazing together. i then wanted to take a more backlit approach, creating contrast through the character being darker than the red planet/moon/thingy behind them. generally i wanted to get a scary athmosphere in there with dark colours and very bright contrasts in some few areas.

when it came to the liquid shooting out of the circular mouth-hand-thing i was rather hesitant. i thought for a while while about what to do with it, but ended up going with a clear gooey liquid... still not too sure if it was the right decision, but hey! at least i got the desired effect in there >w<

either way... not all too much for me to say anymore tbh...

so that's the final result i came up with!

in the end i think i did a pretty good job. it was a nice challenge either way, and drawing something that wasn't humanoid or in my style most certainly was extremely refreshing.
