Backstory: She used to be a pro surfer and would compete in championships for surfing. One night, however, she had gone surfing by herself and the waves were so strong that they knocked her off her board. The current of the tide then carried her out towards Mako Island. Lyla was the one to notice her by the shoreline and she carried her to the moon pool, where Nikki became a mermaid. Nikki hasn't gone to see her parents after this incident, because she knows that she'd be treated differently.
