~coffee~
"Thank you all for coming to the faculty meeting today!" Nezu says in a chipper, upbeat tone that is frankly, too bright to hear in the early morning. "I'm glad to see that everyone could make it, considering it was scheduled last minute. My apologies for that! Settle down, we'll be starting shortly when I come back."
I want to leave already.
Nezu walks out of the meeting room and immediately, several among the U.A. staff start to gossip. Hizashi walks across the room to join Shouta beside the coffee maker and pats Shouta on his shoulder. Hizashi has a frown on his face and quietly asks, "Do you know what this is about?"
"No clue," Shouta says after sipping his coffee. "Probably something important, considering it couldn't wait for our actual scheduled meeting. Have you seen Nemuri?"
"No, but I guess Nezu has or knows she's here." Hizashi sighs and rubs his face before getting his own mug from the cabinet and filling it with coffee. "Whatever, we can survive this."
The two of them sit down and idly talk to pass the time. After a bit, Nezu returns with a thick stack of papers and a smile that makes Shouta uneasy. Nemuri walks in afterward with a disgruntled look on her face and hastily walks to sit beside Shouta.
"What's up?" Hizashi asks and Nemuri shakes her head. "Later, we'll talk later."
"Alright, thank you for your patience! Today we'll be going over staff conduct with the inclusion of a new staff member." Nezu's unsettling smile evens out into a more pleasant one and he continues in a serious tone as he passes his stack of papers down the meeting table. "Make sure the stack gets around to everyone."
The handouts eventually get around the table and Nezu dives into the yearly long-winded conversation on confidentiality regarding the private lives of heroes and what the staff can do to keep themselves and their fellow faculty members safe.
It's strange he's putting more emphasis on it this year.
Shouta glances over to Nemuri and she still has an irritable look on her face. Shouta looks back to Hizashi, who mouths 'any idea?' with visible confusion and curiosity. Shouta shrugs and turns his focus back to Nezu.
The staff member has to be a popular hero then.
"Now that all of that is taken care of, let's welcome our new teacher!"
The door opens and a recognizable silhouette steps into the room.
Immediately, an outburst of noise comes from the U.A. staff.
It's All Might.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Behind Shouta, Hizashi grumbles, "I didn't write a thesis on pedagogy for this bullshit."
"Settle down, settle down." Nezu chides with a cat-like smile. "I know this is out of the ordinary, but we have special conditions."
"Yes!" All Might's voice is booming and rings in Shouta's head. "I will explain, but first-"
All Might deflates into a familiar lanky, blonde man.
The same man who frequents Sticky Fingers and has had personal conversations with you.
The same man that is in your framed photo sitting on your kitchen counter.
What the fuck.
An uproar of voices surrounds Shouta as he burns the image in front of him into his head.
"My name is Toshinori Yagi." Skinny All Migh— Yagi bows deeply. "I will be teaching heroics."
You had to already know about this— no, I have to focus on this right now.
"As Yagi-san said, he will be the heroics teacher in charge of teaching the next generation of heroes here. When he teaches, another teacher will need to be present to oversee for safety reasons." Nezu glances across the table and continues in a serious matter. "He will start out teaching class 1-A and based on his performance there, we will allow him to teach other classes."
"Why my class?" Shouta interrupts, a cutting tone creeping into his voice. He has a suspicion already.
"My successor will be in your class." Yagi says after a moment. "My quirk can be passed down, and I chose a boy in your class."
"The kid who broke his bones." Shouta states and Yagi nods. "Okay, fine. That makes sense since he can't control it."
I can work with this. Yeah, I can. This is fine.
Wait —
"Your quirk can be passed down?"
"Yes, it's a stockpile quirk that has the ability to be passed down. My quirk is called One For All." Yagi's darkened eyes sharpen. "I am sure we all know what the League of Villains is."
"The leader has the companion quirk to mine: All For One. It's a quirk that stockpiles quirks by taking them from the original owner."
An uneasy silence falls over the U.A. staff.
A cold dread slides down Shouta's back and he quietly asks, "Why... are you telling us this?"
"I want to be as transparent as I can be with you all." Yagi states. "My presence here will make things more dangerous for the students. I want to make sure we, as their guardians, can do all we can to keep them safe."
"With that being said, we must take extra precautions to make sure the public does not know that Yagi-san is All Might. You all have observed the limited public appearances that Yagi as All Might has been making?" Yagi picks up where Nezu left off. "My quirk usage time is running out. At this point, I can only be in my All Might form for three hours."
"Why are you raising a child to end your quirk ancestor's feud with another?" Nemuri's tone is abrasive. "We are teachers, first and foremost here. We want our students to be the heroes they want to be."
"I don't want to leave my fight with my successor. I plan to the best of my ability to defeat All For One in my lifetime. I owe it." Yagi promises firmly. He does not back down from Nemuri's acidic voice. "The quirk must be passed down in the chance that I do not make it."
The grim silence in the U.A. conference room is all-consuming.
"What the actual fuck was all that?"
"Hizashi, you need to quiet down." Shouta mutters, glancing around the ramen restaurant. From the cramped booth, he can see the sun begin to set through the restaurant's window. His gaze settles on Nemuri, who still appears to be irritated. "Nemuri, are you alright?"
"No, I'm not. It's whatever, I'll deal with it later." Nemuri runs a hand through her hair and sharply breathes out.
"Nemuri, you've seen Yagi before." Shouta states and she sighs loudly. "Yeah, yeah, I have, unfortunately. I saw him right before the meeting. You have too, haven't you?"
"Yeah. Hizashi?"
"...In Pen's cafe. Right?" Hizashi mutters before adding, "It makes sense since Sir Nighteye was Pen's mentor. Pen was bound to end up working with All Might."
Both Shouta and Nemuri mumble a "yeah" and their chatter diminishes into a sobering silence.
"Today's been a headache." Nemuri grumbles and shakes her head. "Whatever. Pen's a private person, so we shouldn't think too hard about Yagi and Pen and all that. Just... quirks like that really exist out there."
"I mean... It makes sense." Hizashi mutters and takes a sip of his ice water. "Someone out there existing with a quirk like that. It's like that urban legend, yeah? A creature that can take your quirk."
"...Yeah. It's not too far-fetched either." Shouta snorts and glances to Nemuri. "Do you think I could erase that kind of quirk?"
"I mean, probably but hopefully you will never have to." Nemuri says with a hint of a smile.
That's better.
The mood lightens considerably when their food arrives and by the time their empty dishes are taken away, the trio has relaxed and moved on.
"So, Shou, are you excited to be working with Yagi?"
"Hell no. If he taught his successor how to use his quirk and the kid still broke an arm, he's doing a bad job." Shouta says. "Pen was right that Yagi should not have a kid."
"Oh?" Nemuri drawls with a smirk. "What did Pen say?"
Here we go.
"I hate you." Shouta jokes in a deadpan before continuing. "I saw Yagi and his successor talking to Pen when I came to the cafe and I asked if the kid was Yagi's child. Pen said that Yagi was the kid's family friend."
It's hard to picture All Might with a family. That's kind of sad, actually.
"Was that the day you brought dinner over? How did that go?"
Shouta locked eyes with Nemuri and Hizashi.
"Well, regardless of how it went, I have another date."
Hizashi tries to muffle a laugh. "Shou, what happened?"
"Like... a major miscommunication." Shouta mumbles with a warm face. Looking back, Shouta should have gotten over the initial embarrassment of asking Pen out and the awkwardness of getting turned down instead of dealing with the logically, much more embarrassing fallout. "Pen didn't know it was supposed to be a date until the end and half the time I thought Pen was uncomfortable with the idea of a date."
Hizashi straight up cackles.
"Shou... how— you know what, good on you." Nemuri is trying very hard to not laugh and Shouta just wants to melt into his chair. "You're going to become quite the pick-up artist someday."
"Shut up!" Shouta playfully punches Nemuri in the arm and the trio dissolves into smothered laughter.
"But seriously, I'm glad you did it." Hizashi says genuinely. "We want you to be happy and I don't want you to regret not doing something."
"Yeah." Shouta pauses and runs a hand down his neck before continuing. "Thank you both for telling me I should."
"You're such a sap!" Nemuri coos and her lips curl into a smile. "You give us too much credit! That was all you, Shou. I'm really glad it worked out. I haven't seen either of you this lively in a while, it's good for both of you."
"Yeah! And don't sweat the date, man. The first date is always awkward, the second is going to be a lot better. Do you know what you're doing?" Hizashi asks and Shouta nods.
"Yeah, we planned for a picnic on Saturday."
Till next time bye bye my little butterflies~
