27: Getting Even
"JUST BE careful, okay?" Carmen lectured, as she put on her shoes; she was going out on a date with Johnny. She continued, "I don't want this party to be big, got it?"
The party was going to be big since Moon had managed to invite people from the East Valley; the twins and Robby nodded anyway.
Miguel lied, "Yeah, it's just a few friends coming over to celebrate us entering the Sekai Taikai." He added, "I can't believe they let us and Cobra Kai enter."
"I'm very proud of you all." Carmen smiled, as she stood up to answer the door to Johnny, who was also dressed appropriately for their date. Their mother explained, "Just don't let people in the bedrooms, okay? Keep it in the kitchen and outside, and remember to keep the music on the low. I don't want any noise complaints. And, don't have too many drinks."
"Can I drink?" Isabella asked, "Just this once." As if she hadn't got drunk before, but her mom didn't need to know that.
Carmen replied, "You know it messes with your pills, Belle—"
"Please, Ma." Isabella begged, "I'll just have one. I can't not drink at my own house party."
Miguel added, "I'll be her supervisor— ow!" His sister had nudged him in the ribs, shooting him a glare. A supervisor? What was she... a fucking grandma?
"Fine, okay." Carmen nodded, "But, all of you have to look out for each other. I don't want to come home to all three of you drunk."
Johnny pulled a face to disagree, almost implying: have as many drinks as you want and get shit-faced.
Robby nodded innocently, as if he wasn't going to get the most drunk, "Yes, Ms Diaz."
Miguel added, "Bye, Ma."
"Enjoy you're date," Isabella urged for them to leave, knowing that the masses of people would be arriving soon.
It had been a few hours: people had located into the bedrooms, people were definitely drinking too much, and the music was blaring out of the speakers. Isabella walked to the back of her house, through the hallway, towards the bedrooms; opening her bedroom door to see a couple kissing on Miguel's bed.
"Bedrooms are off-limits." Isabella grimaced, "Get out! Gross."
She shut her bedroom door behind her, before walking towards the kitchen to refill her red plastic cup. Isabella caught a glimpse of Miguel and a random girl kissing on the couch; she gagged, pulling a face, before walking outside.
Isabella sat on top of the trash bins, slightly away from the crowd of drunk dancers. She took another sip of her drink, her legs swaying in the air because they didn't touch the ground; her eyes on the stars above her.
"Diaz," A familiar voice called; Isabella looked down from the sky to see Tory Nichols walking towards her.
Isabella sighed, "I don't wanna fight."
"Me neither." Tory replied quickly. She smirked, but it wasn't evil like before, it was almost friendly. She said, "I heard that you won against Devon by fighting dirty."
"As if you guys don't fight dirty all the time." Isabella shot back, but sarcasm laced her voice, "I was simply... getting even."
"Oh, yeah?" Tory retorted; her smirk turning into a genuine smile, though it faded quickly when she realised. She asked cautiously, "Can I sit?"
Isabella frowned in confusion: did Tory Nichols just ask to sit down with her? Was she drunk? Isabella spluttered, "Uh, sure. Go for it, yeah, I mean... sure."
Tory smirked to herself, as she climbed on top of the large trash bin and sat next to her. They sat in silence for a while; Isabella blinked hard to check if she wasn't hallucinating Tory's presence.
Isabella blurted out, "You broke up with Robby." Fuck, she didn't mean to say that. Maybe she shouldn't of had so many drinks.
"Uh, yeah." Tory replied cautiously and sober, "He kept on going on about how I should leave Cobra Kai—"
"You should quit." Isabella interrupted. Shit, she really needed to work on her self control. She paused, "Sorry."
Tory shrugged, unbothered, "Whatever. I guess everyone has their own opinions, right?"
"Yeah," Isabella frowned sarcastically, "Are you high? You're, like, incredibly relaxed. Is this just a distraction before I get jumped by your friends?"
Tory chuckled slightly, though her question sounded serious like she wanted a genuine answer, "You really think that low of me?"
"Well, you have jumped me before, so..." Isabella trailed off. She paused, "Why are you here... with me?"
"Well, I live in these block of apartments, too. I heard the music..." Tory hesitated, looking down into her lap as if she was internally battling herself to say it. She said, "I came here to talk."
"About what?" Isabella frowned sarcastically, "Are you recruiting members for Cobra Kai? If you are, I'm too good for—"
"You didn't lose the All Valley." Tory blurted out quickly.
Isabella didn't react for a second, as she stared into the distance; she took a sip of her drink, thinking about all the unnecessary pain and anger she went through. She didn't lose.
Tory's knee tapped Isabella's knee to gain her attention; she asked, "Did you hear what I said?"
"Yeah, uh, I... I don't know what to say." Isabella replied slowly, "How do you know?"
"I heard Silver talking to the Ref after our match. And, I've been talking to Kreese... visiting him in jail." Tory confessed, "I don't want this to turn into a fight... but, I just thought you should know."
"Why are you telling me?" Isabella frowned, "I thought you hated me."
"Oh, I do." Tory nodded with a slight smirk, "But, after seeing your reaction at the All Valley... I don't know, I guess I felt... bad for you. And for lying." She continued, "I mean, you literally had a panic attack because of me."
Isabella paused, looking into into her eyes, "How'd you know about that?"
"Robby told me at the water park." Tory explained, "He didn't tell me everything, don't worry, but he just told me to not start shit with you."
Isabella assumed, "That's why you defended me against Kyler."
Tory nodded, "It sounds serious... your panic attacks—"
"It's fine," Isabella interrupted quickly; she didn't like it when people sympathised her for being different. She took a breath, changing the topic, "Have you told anyone else about Silver cheating?"
"No," Tory replied, "I didn't know what to do for a while. My dojo isn't a very nice place."
Isabella nodded understandingly, "Is that why you backed out of our fight today?"
"Yeah," Tory explained hesitantly, "I couldn't fight you again, knowing that I caused you so much pain." She added quickly, "Sorry, if that's weird."
"It's not, uh, don't worry." Isabella replied too quickly. She looked down, avoiding eye contact; her face flustered a hot pink.
Tory hesitated, climbing down from the trash bin, "I should go."
Go? She didn't mind her company. Isabella nodded in agreement, "Yeah, okay. Uh, thanks for telling me."
Tory paused, "Can you not tell anyone just yet? I need more time to think about what I need to do."
"Sure," Isabella nodded, before adding sarcastically, "Cheater."
Tory chuckled slightly, "Very funny, Diaz—"
"Cheater?" Sam appeared suddenly; tears had stained her cheeks, and Isabella guessed that she saw Miguel kissing another girl. Sam snapped, "What are you talking about?"
"I'm not here to fight." Tory replied, "I'm just leaving—"
Sam shoved her back, stopping her from leaving, "No! What were you talking about?" Sam looked at Belle angrily, "What did she tell you?"
Tory glanced back at Isabella, who was climbing off the trash bin. Tory knew about Cobra Kai cheating. Isabella lied, "Nothing, Sam. We were just talking."
"I don't believe you." Sam shoved Tory again, "Why are you even here?"
Isabella stepped between the two girls, trying to calm Sam down, "Listen, nothing's going on. Go inside and sit down, I think you've had too much to drink—"
"I just got here." Sam frowned, "I haven't drunk anything—"
"Oh."
"And I'm not leaving until I know what you two were talking about. I heard you say cheater." Sam exclaimed, "Did she hurt you, Belle?"
Isabella spluttered, "No, she didn't, I—"
"Silver cheated in the All Valley." Tory blurted out quickly.
Sam paused, filling with rage, kicking her into the trash bin, "You knew all along that Silver cheated at the All Valley and you did nothing?!"
"Fight!" A small crowd had suddenly formed around them.
Isabella tried to stop her, "Sam, stop!"
"You don't know what it's like in there and what I've had to deal with." Tory defended herself, though she didn't fight back.
Sam attempted to punch her, but Tory blocked it. The girl shouted, "My entire family has suffered because of you!"
Sam attempted to punch Tory again at the same time that Isabella had decided to step in front of Sam, causing the girl to accidentally punch Isabella in the face. The girl stumbled back, holding her nose, as she felt a warm liquid drip into her hands.
Sam gasped, "Oh, my God. Shit! Belle, I didn't mean to—"
"No!" Miguel rushed towards them, holding Sam back, "Sam, that's enough!"
Robby stepped in front of Tory, who wasn't fighting because she was looking at Isabella's bleeding nose; her eyes watered because of Sam's direct hit to the middle of her face. Isabella raised her hands in surrender to show Robby and Miguel that she finally wasn't involved.
Sam shouted, "She's been working with Kreese and Silver this whole time!"
Robby frowned at Tory, "What?"
"Why did you only come forward now, huh?" Sam yelled, "Because you're a coward!"
Tory's voice was filled with sadness, not anger, "Screw you, LaRusso. I knew this was a mistake." The girl pushed past the crowd, as she stormed away.
"Shit." Isabella sighed, as she tried to wipe her bleeding nose but her hands were already bloody from catching the blood, causing her to smear it across her face.
Sam exhaled, approaching Isabella, "I'm so sorry, Belle. I didn't mean to hit you—"
"Fuck you, Sam." Isabella pulled away from her, wiping the blood from her nose with the sleeves of her t-shirt.
Sam frowned, her voice breaking, "What? You're taking Tory's side?"
"No— No!" Isabella shot back, "There are no sides. Tory was trying to help us by telling the truth."
Sam scoffed in disbelief, wiping the tears from her cheeks, "What, so you like her now?" She argued, "Were you in with it, too? You probably knew."
Isabella shoved her with her bloody hands, but Miguel and Robby got between them again. Isabella muttered, "Go home, Sam."
And the girl did, storming away, crying. Isabella was too angry to feel bad.
