Song:
- 'Living on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi
"I'm home baby!" Sky called, brushing off the snow on his worn work overalls.
He kicked off his boots and laid them neatly by the door, ready for his early morning shift the next day. He was tired, cold and dirty, but was finally home to see his boyfriend Jason.
They had been together for over a year now, and had found this apartment six months ago. Of course they took it, it was the only way to get away from Jason's deadbeat parents.
Sky's parents had been very supportive, but had died in a car crash a month into the relationship. Jason was always by his side, comforting him through his grieving.
Although his biological parents were terrible, he had seen Sky's as his own, and was almost equally upset about their death. They had lived in their house until the lease was up.
Not being able to afford the rent, they were forced to find a new place to live. So here they were.
He walked into the shabby apartment, shivering slightly at the cold. They had long ago realised that the heating was not working, but it's not like they could afford a better place.
After getting no response from Jason, he frowned. He was always there to greet Sky when he came home. It was like clockwork.
Sky would come home after his double shift work at the docks, hauling crates and God knows what for ten hours five days a week. Jason would be in the kitchen or by the door, waiting with a kiss and a hug. Always.
Sky walked around the lounge area of the apartment, and looked on the couch. He saw a blanket strewn across it but no Jason.
He was getting worried by now. He hurried to the bathroom, guessing the inevitable, panicked.
"Jason?" he whispered softly, knocking on the closed peeling bathroom door. There were shuffles from behind, and a small sniff confirmed Sky's idea.
He sighed, and turned the handle on the door, knowing that the rotten door had no functioning lock. It was a blessing and a curse, especially in these circumstances.
He pushed it open gently, peeking his head around cautiously. There was no telling how Jason would react when he had a moment like this, but usually he was too sad to care.
Jason sat, curled up, knees to his chest, head tucked between, arms around his legs, in the corner of the dingy bathroom. Sky scanned the countertop, and his breath hitched when he saw the razor blade, perched merrily on the side.
He bit his lip and rushed forward, sliding next to the shaking Jason, instantly wrapping his arms around him.
Jason let out a choked sound, and then sobs rocked his body, the shaking getting worse. It had been weeks since Jason's last relapse, and he was doing so well, until today.
Sky rocked his boyfriends trembling body, cradling his head against his shoulder, pulling him onto his lap so he could curl up and calm down. Jason continued to whimper, the tears dried up, miserably clutching onto Sky.
"Shh baby, it's ok, I'm here. I love you Jason, I'm here, everything's going to be alright." he whispered into Jason's ear, a lone tear rolling down his cheek.
He hastily wiped it away, blinking back the torrent about to fall. Once Jason had stopped shaking, he picked him up gently, carrying him to the bedroom.
He laid him down on the bed, pulling out the first aid kit from under the bed. This was not the first time he had come home to see his love like this.
Rolling up the sleeves of Jason's hoodie, he inspected his wrists and arms. He winced when he saw the white jagged scars from previous cuts, but seeing no new ones he tugged the sleeves back into place.
He checked the next place, pushing up the hem of his jumper to reveal his sunken stomach. He gasped when he saw three angry pink lines slashed across his body, just below his naval.
He glanced at Jason's tear stained face, and his heart broke a little to see the pained, broken look on his face. Jason's glistening eyes darted to meet Sky's, and they held eye contact for a moment, silently staring at each other.
Sky reached out and placed a hand on Jason's cheek, still staring into his eyes. He brushed his thumb across his soft milky skin, in awe at the beauty of him.
Jason blinked, big, sea blue eyes scanning Skys face. He could see how exhausted he was.
His overalls hung from his thin frame, the result of neither of them having enough food, lucky to have maybe one meal every other day. His skin was tan and calloused, his work meaning he was constantly outside, lifting, carrying, digging and many other strenuous jobs.
His eyes started to water, thinking how worthless he was.
He couldn't hold his own job, so Sky had to be the sole breadwinner, taking double, sometimes triple shifts, just so they had enough money to scrape by.
He hated himself for it, knowing it was his own fault. No one wanted to hire someone as messed up as him.
He had severe depression, sometimes the anxiety and sorrow so overwhelming it was crippling. He would lie in bed all day, not moving, silently crying without realising.
But he would always make sure to be by the door to kiss Sky when he came back. No matter how much he hated himself, seeing Sky walk through the door and his eyes light up when he saw Jason made his day, the emptiness he felt temporarily forgotten.
Sky was his only constant, his abusive and bigoted parents having basically disowned him, the only parents he knew that cared gone, his heart ripped open and left to bleed out.
But Sky was always there, comforting him and caring for him. He squeezed his eyes shut, and reached out, taking Sky's hand off his face and holding it, fragile like a child.
In back of his mind, knew how much worry and doubt Sky held, but in moments like these, he also knew that he was stronger than this.
He tried and tried to be better for Sky, but sometimes the urge was too strong.
He had been cutting since he was fourteen years old, when he first realised he was gay, mortified by the rejection his parents showed him, trying to 'beat the gay out of him' almost every week.
Cutting was the only thing he could control in his life, the one thing that focused his mind away from their dire situation, the only thing that made him feel calm, until the realisation ate away at him.
His two constants, Sky and the razor, fought one another for Jason. Most times, Skys love and reassurance would win.
But it was in his lowest, dark moments, that sometimes, he let the blade win.
Finally, he choked out a whimper. "I'm sorry Sky..." he whispered, once again staring into his lovers eyes.
Sky bent down and kissed his forehead, stroking his hair to comfort him. He knew Jason tried hard, and he couldn't blame him for this, even if Jason blamed himself. The only people he blamed for this were Jason's loathsome parents.
Sky offered him a kindly smile, carefully picking up the first aid box while still stroking Jason's hair softly.
"It's ok baby, it's not your fault. Sometimes relapses happen, and you can't blame yourself." he whispered, kissing Jason lightly on the lips.
He took out gauze and an antiseptic spray, wiping down the cuts as carefully as he could, cringing internally when Jason winced.
He bandaged up his wounds and put away the first aid, climbing onto the bed next to Jason.
Jason immediately curled into Sky, resting his head on his shoulder, arms weakly clasped around his neck. Sky held Jason close, kissing him before resuming his hair stroking, an action that calmed both of them.
Sky pulled Jason closer, sitting him in his lap, his arms around his waist and his chin resting on top of his head. Jason sighed shakily, nuzzling closer to Sky, who's grip tightened when he did so.
"It's so hard Sky." Jason whispered, shattering the silence. Sky kissed the top of his head, and turned his face to meet his gaze.
"I know it is Jason. But you're strong, you're so amazingly strong. You were ok for seven weeks! That means you can do it. I'll always be there for you babe, always, even if you hate me and don't want to see me."
Jason smiled weakly at Skys words. He always knew what to say to make him feel better.
"I'll never hate you Sky, it's not possible." Sky chuckled, planting a small kiss on Jason's temple.
He beamed when he remembered he had great news to tell Jason.
"Hey, baby. I've got something important to tell you." he muttered, shaking his slightly.
Jason stiffened, slight dread in his mind. Had they run out of money? Would they lose the apartment?
He looked up at Sky and was surprised to see the biggest smile on his face. His eyes widened with shock and anticipation.
He raised his eyebrows to urge asks to go on. Sky's smile widened.
"Remember I told you about the scout that came round talking to us at the docks? Ty I think his name was. Anyway, he and his business partner at Double T were back at the docks today at work. They came up to me and said that they knew about my situation and offered me a new job!"
Jason's head shot up, mouth agape as he stared wide eyed and incredulous at Sky.
A new job?
He nodded furiously and Sky chuckled, then continued.
"Tyler, his partner, gave me the hours. It's a eight till three job, five days a week. I'll be working in their press office managing the printing press, making sure it works and calibrating it and stuff. Jason, the pay cheque is enough to get a new place, food and even heating! We're finally making it baby, we're going to be ok."
Sky had tears in his eyes as he thought back to the offer.
Ty and Tyler were CEOs for Double T, an publishing office with huge success not far from the docks were Sky worked.
They were known to be extremely kind, and their employees were hired because they needed the money, not because they wanted it.
They often trawled the docks, offering jobs or help to anyone who needed it. They had approached Sky one day, saying they wanted to talk to him.
He agreed, as his boss didn't mind, and they sat and talked in the empty break room. Sky ended up telling them all about himself, from his parents death to his feeble living conditions.
He found himself welling up when he talked about Jason, about his struggle with his self loathing and depression, about how much he loved him.
Ty and Tyler also started to tear up, especially when they found out about Jason's parents and his cutting. Tyler took it personally, as he had had a cutting problem when he was a teenager.
They all shed tears and laughed and talked, until eventually Ty made him an offer.
He and Tyler both knew that hiring Sky would be the best thing in the world, not only because they loved to help people, but he was a loyal and hard working employee, as they had talked to his manager about his impeccable work record.
Sky broke down when he accepted, signing the paperwork and thanking his boss for everything.
He composed himself before he came home, ready to tell Jason as soon as he walked in the door.
The distraction of Jason's relapse made him temporarily forget however. But he couldn't help but revel him the sight of Jason's overwhelmingly happy face.
He beamed, kissing him deeply, resting his forehead on Skys.
They both cried silent happy tears, smiling and staring into each other's eyes with love and passion.
Sky pecked his lips once more and gave him a crooked smile.
"I love you Jason." he whispered.
Jason giggled, and sniffed happily.
"I love you too Sky. We finally made it."
I was going to make it sad but I could t bring myself to make it worse for poor little Jason and Sky! But still, the feelz! Hope you tossers enjoyed it! Laika out. :3
