First Impression
Hello again!! I don't really have a schedule for this fanfic so I'll just make random updates. I hope the first chapter was good and it got you hooked on the story. Now let's see what happens to Sunny Blaze in her try out race!
🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Hana set her stopwatch and began, “Okay, ready!” All girls got in positions. Get ready. Show em what you got. This is where you start your dream. Sunny thought to herself. “Set!” The gates clicked, ready to let the girls out. Just breathe.
“Go!!”
All the horse girls took off as the gates opened. The line started forming a pattern with El Condor Pasa and Grass Wonder in the very lead. Behind them was Flower Flash in third and Taiki Shuttle, a Team Rigil racer, in fourth. A new racer named Admire Moon with curly shoulder length white hair and black eyes kept on pace with Flash.
Sunny Blaze was staying close to the back, only passing one new horse girl in the beginning and staying at the same pace.
Hmm, Flash looked back to check on Sunny, She doesn't seem as fast as I thought. Maybe she’s saving her energy. She took off, trying to stay ahead of Shuttle.
“This girl doesn't seem to be that good. Admire Moon looks like the better one. We should accept her.” Air Groove commented as she watched on the sidelines. Narita Brian, another Team Rigil girl, shrugged, “Sunny Blaze isn't too bad.”
“She's with you a lot in classes, right?” Narita hummed an unbiased response. “She's pretty strong. I’m sure she's just as promising. She’s in a bad position, is all.”
Air Groove huffed, “Well, she better show it, then.”
Meanwhile, a certain lazy trainer was examining the training race. He had heard of the new student coming to the academy and decided to see what he could use or what he had to go against. She didn't seem like much of a threat. Fast, maybe, but she didn't stand out that much.
The horse girls at Team Spica had no idea what he was leaving for, but he left them busy with running laps around the school. Right now, it didn't seem like it was worth it to leave his team during training for an average horse girl. He could see she did have potential, but she either didn't know it or she didn't know how to use it.
“Come on, I know you’ve gotta have something. Especially if your trying to join Rigil.” He watched her stay toward the back of the group, a bad place to try and get ahead. The newest racer of Team Rigil, Flower Flash, was proving to be a promising rival to some of his pupils.
He leaned forward on a rail and mused, “Maybe she’d be good against Gold Ship? Nah, maybe Mejiro. She could possibly be good with Special Week. But why doesn't that new girl move?”
Sunny Blaze stayed intact to her place, even managing to fall behind two other girls. The last turn was coming up and individual horse girls started running faster, making their move. Sunny stayed along the girls in the back, still not making her move.
Hana raised an eyebrow and shook her head, “This one wants to beat Special Week, huh? That's gonna be a challenge for her.” Symboli Rudolf studied Sunny’s pace and location then looked to her trainer, “Give her a minute, she seems to be using the grouping strategy.”
“Staying close to a group so she won't fall behind. She doesn't seem so good with making progress, though. Normally, she would be accelerating now.” Rudolf brushed her bangs back and said, “Just give her some time.”
El Condor Pasa passed Grass Wonder as she made her move. Grass started staying behind letting Flower Flash make her move and speed up to El Condor. Sorry, El-chan! Not today. She chuckled to herself.
Sunny Blaze raced on behind a blonde haired horse girl that was wasting her energy big time. Eventually, she passed her and went on the outside of the group next to Hishi Amazon who was in 9th place. Now that I saved my energy, I can run faster!
With a solid step on the ground, Sunny took off ahead of Hishi and passed all the others, going up next to Grass Wonder. About a few feet ahead, Flash and El went neck and neck for the finish line, just in reach.
Finally decided to join the party, eh, Blaze-San? You won't make it farther than that, though. Flash looked back momentarily. El kept her eyes ahead, sprinting hard with small but fast steps.
Hana and the Trainer were both a little surprised by Sunny's recuperation. She was able to take herself all the way to fourth place!
Flash took a long step forward and ran passed El by a foot. El struggled to keep up. Come on, come on, don't stop!
Just as Flash’s victory was sure, Sunny shocked everyone by taking another hard run and sprinting like a bullet ahead of Grass and El.
Trainer’s eyes widened as his mouth dropped, almost letting his lollipop slip out. Hana’s mouth opened too as Symboli tensed up at the view. The horse girls now behind of Sunny panicked in fear of what Sunny had just done.
Flash kept the lead up until she was only 15 feet away from the finish. That was, until Sunny Blaze came in like a rocket, zooming past her. Flash gasped as her eyes widened at the feeling of Sunny running by her.
Sunny smirked confidently and crossed the finish line, two horse girl lengths ahead of Flash. She slowed down then came to a stop, “How was that, trainer?” She asked, hardly showing exhaustion. The other horse girls were barely coming up passed the finish line.
Hana and Symboli looked at each other in slight confusion then looked back at Sunny. She panted slightly but still looked fine. “What was that?” Hana questioned. Sunny frowned and answered, “I thought you wanted a warm up.”
Trainer choked on his lollipop and spit it out. That was her warm up run?! She wasn't even giving it her whole energy?
The rest of the horse girls looked at Sunny and yelled, “What?!” Flash came up to Sunny and breathed, “You're pretty fast. I can't imagine what you’d be like in an actual race.” Sunny turned around and wiped her forehead, “Well, I imagine it’d be like a storm.”
El Condor Pasa walked up to Sunny and asked, “Blaze-San, you say you want to join Team Rigil?” Sunny nodded. El beamed and offered her hand, “Welcome to the team! I’m sure they’ll accept you in a second, right, Trainer?” She looked at Hana.
Hana looked up from her clipboard and composed herself, “She does seem like an impressive racer. You’ll have to train hard, though, so you meet my standards. This won't be easy.”
“I’m ready for whatever comes at me.” Sunny Blaze smirked. Hana nodded, “Well then, girls, meet your new teammate, Sunny Blaze.”
Fuji Kiseki, a Team Rigil girl, pumped her fist excitedly. El and Grass looked at each other and cheered. The rest of Team Rigil cheered and congratulated Sunny. Flash hugged Sunny, “Great! We’ll be great friends in Team Rigil together, Blaze-chan!” Sunny thought this was a good sign. I’ll be able to beat Spe-Chan in no time.
Team Spica’s Trainer gulped and looked down, thinking of what to do. “This one is now part of Team Rigil. If I knew what she was doing, I would have had the girls offer her to join Spica.” He groaned. “Who would I use with her? Gold Ship is good with those types of techniques.” He went back to his track, thinking about what he would do against such a horse girl.
When he came back, he was berated with questions from the girls. “Where were you?” Mejiro McQueen asked as she stroked her light purple hair back.
“We were done running laps 10 minutes ago!!” Vodka growled as her dark brown ears lowered. “What were you doing?”
“Why did you leave us in the middle of training?” The short but cheeky Tokai Teio whined.
Trainer boomed, “That's enough.” Everyone then became quiet. “Team Rigil has just accepted a new member on their team.”
Special Week gasped, “Is it Sunny Blaze?” Trainer asked, “How did you know?”
“I met her in my class this morning. She says her goal is to beat me as the best horse girl in Japan.” Trainer muttered, “So I’ve heard. She's a great racer and I need you all to be prepared. Team Rigil is going to try and take us on this year. Last year, we dominated them in most of the races we competed in. We even beat them in the year before that. I’m going to keep an eye on the schedule for Team Rigil, but I’m going to see when the new girl Sunny Blaze will be put on.”
Silence Suzuka stepped up, “Who’s going to go against her when she does race?” Special Week answered before Trainer did and said, “I’ll race against her. She wants to race with me anyways.”
Trainer shook his head, “Sorry, Spe-chan, not yet. You’ll get your shot some time. Since she’s a newbie to the race track, I want to use someone else. I’m going to use Scarlet here.”
The feisty Daiwa Scarlet turned to him with an unapproving look. Her brick colored pigtails whipped around quickly as she turned her head completely to Trainer. “This better not mean you think I’m not fast enough to race with experienced horse girls.”
Trainer raised an eyebrow, “I’m not saying that at all. I just wanna give you a good run. Blaze-San might be a newbie, but she won't disappoint.”
Special Week looked down in an upset manner. She was excited to race against her newfound rival and see what she had in her, but she wouldn't get the chance to just yet.
“I guess that just means I’ll train meanwhile. That way I won't disappoint Sunny Blaze when our day comes.” Special Week smiled with a determined look in her eyes.
Trainer nodded once, “Good. Now get back to training, we’re wasting daylight!”
“Aah, we’ve been training while you were gone looking at the new girl's legs!” sassed Vodka.
Trainer countered, “I was not doing that!” The girls screamed, “Yes you were!”
…
“Well, I guess you're my new roommate now, Blaze-chan.” Flash chirped as she opened the door to her dorm room. A new fresh bed was placed on the other side of the room for Sunny Blaze. She placed her bags under the bed and quickly got comfortable in her space. “Aah, nice and soft.”
Flower Flash laid down in her pajamas on her bed. “I’m so exhausted.” Blaze raised an eyebrow, “Really? I think I could go for another run.” Flash perked up when she remembered something then bent down and pulled out a box from under her bed. “Here, want some?”
Sunny sat up and asked, “What is it?” Flash cracked the box open and mentioned, “I told my Mom and Dad that I wouldn't build on extra weight since I was going here, but I couldn't resist bringing some.” The box held a group of fresh carrots in special molds. Some of the places where carrots should have been were already empty, showing their plain molds. “Ahh! I haven't had a good old carrot in weeks!” She picked one and took a big bite out of it.
“Ohhh, it tastes so good!” She chewed on it and crunched another bite. “I know, right?” Flash bit into one and set the box aside. “Sometimes, you gotta spoil yourself, ya know?” Sunny agreed and swallowed her bite. “So what race do you think our trainer is gonna put me in?”
Flash considered the question and answered, “You know what, one major race that she said she didn't have anyone to put in was the Takamatsunomiya Kinen.”
“No way. The Takamatsunomiya Kinen is a serious race. You couldn't put just any random horse girl in there. She’d probably put someone else, like you, or El Condor Pasa-san. Grass Wonder would be good for that too. I think I’m too new to compete in that.”
Flash pointed out, “You run as fast as most of the girls here that have been training for years!” Sunny shrugged, “Well, it’s only because I practiced basic training with my parents. Then they motivated me to gain an idea for a technique. That's how I won the practice race today. It takes endurance to do that technique.” She finished the carrot in her hand and took another one.
Flash laid back on her pillow and smiled, “Exactly. That's why we’re gonna beat Team Spica this year.”
“Spica? Whoever said anything about Team Spica?”
“Oh yeah, you weren't told. Team Spica creamed us in almost all the races last year and the year before. It was all thanks to Special Week and Silence Suzuka who stood out the most.”
“I remember seeing those races on TV. You didn't join until 4 months ago, right?” Sunny recalled. Flash pointed her half-eaten carrot at her, “Yep! Team Rigil has been turning on the heat a little more since I came. We’re hoping we can get Team Rigil back on top. If we start with you at the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, we’re sure to get a good impression!”
Sunny nodded and sat in her bed, “Then I’ll be able to compete with Spe-chan. I wanna beat her in a race. I want to show her what I’ve got in me.”
Chuckling, Flash tucked the box under her bed and finished her carrot, “I’m sure you will, Blaze-chan.”
“Goodnight.” Sunny tucked herself in and turned off the lamp in the room. “Night.” Flash murmured, pulling her blankets over herself and staring out the window at the moon.
Special Week said, “I just don't want to make her think so big of me.” She threw herself on her bed. Silence Suzuka turned toward her friend and sighed sleepily, “It’s kind of late, Spe-chan. Don't you want to go to bed?”
Spe looked to Suzuka and apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m keeping you up. It’s just that I can't stop thinking about what Blaze-chan said. She treats me like I’m the top horse girl to compete with, but I don't wanna disappoint her. It took so long for me to get here, and I still can get better. After what Trainer-san said, I think I’m in for a good competition.”
“I’ll run with you every day so you can be in top shape. We can practice.” Suzuka offered. Spe sighed, “I just hope I’m good enough to be what she thinks of me. I don't know.”
Suzuka closed her eyes and breathed out slowly, remembering when she first met Special Week. She was a tough horse girl with tons of charisma and determination, always ready to take on any race she had. Whether she lost or won, she still never gave up.
“You're only as good as you think you are, Spe.” Special Week gasped and looked at Suzuka. “Trust me, you’ll be fine. Just give her all that you’ve got. She won't be upset with that.”
Special Week smiled gratefully, hugging her blankets and closing her eyes, “Thanks, Suzuka-san. Goodnight.”
Suzuka hummed as if saying goodnight then turned over and fell asleep again.

So what did you think? Is Sunny Blaze a good racer or not? I know she might seem a little op right now but don't come at me saying that she's unbeatable. Every horse girl has her flaws. That means Sunny Blaze will have her downfalls and faults. Sunny Blaze is not gonna be a Mary sue op Character. I don't work like that. But I hope you enjoyed reading. 💜
