The Forest
Phil's POV
I took a deep breath when I woke up, the scent lingering in my nose smelt so good. It was addicting. To be honest it smelt so good, that I blended anything around me out for a minute and then it all started to reappear. The softness of the couch, which almost felt like a normal bed, the warmth the covers kept and the protectiveness the strong arms around my body made me feel. It felt like the heat coming from them was melting my skin.
Stop.... The 'strong arms around my body' what was going on? My eyes snapped open, only to let the shock bring my arms and legs come shooting forward, shoving the guy in front of me away. Just then I realised it was Nathan. I tried to grab a hold of his hand... but failed... miserably.
With a loud crashing sound Nathan fell on the floor. "Ouch." Was all he gave as an instinctive answer at first. A few seconds later a "What have I done to have deserved that?" followed, with him rubbing his back from the fall. His eyes locked onto mine, his pain seemed to have disappeared from one moment to another.
"You had your arms around me! I wasn't prepared!" I half yelled in defence. His eyes seemed to widen in realisation, just before he closed them to rub the sleep out.
"We'll take my bed today, there's more space there." He said calmly while standing up. "I'll go into the bathroom, dad should be in the kitchen by now, tell him what you need as bathroom supplies, or in general." He told me before heading off.
So back to the kitchen. Where was that though?
After I was walking through the house for a few minutes I heard a noise coming from one of the rooms downstairs. I went into it and made a mental note "kitchen first door on the left".
"Good morning. Finally awake, huh?" the older guy said without looking at me. I figured it had to be Nathans dad. When I didn't respond he made short eye contact and then looked away again. "So you're Nathan's boyfriend, judging by how you were laying this morning." He said. A slight blush started to creep onto my face.
"We're not boyfriends." I simply stated.
"friends with benefits?" he questioned.
"Just friends, dad." Nathan shot from the door. I hadn't even heard him entering. "And besides, he needs a few things..." that's were I stopped listening, muting the sounds around me, so I didn't hear anything and sat down at the table. My eyes were following Nathan's movements unconsciously. Suddenly a plate was put in front of me, snapping me out of my daze, letting the sounds come back to my ears.
"I made you a sandwich, I took your silence as an ok." Nathan said a smile plastered across his face.
"Is there anything else you need?" his dad asked, while going towards the door. I shook my head as response. "Ok then I'm off, be back in a few hours." He said and took his keys before leaving.
Then we were alone again. Just Nathan and me. I quickly ate my sandwich and let my eyes lock with his. When he saw they did, his lips curved into a small smile.
"So how did you sleep after you actually started to sleep?" he asked me. Memories of this morning started to flood my mind. I felt my cheeks heat up again.
"I slept as if I was a rock."
"Should have figured with the way you just kicked me out."
"Sorry about that by the way."
"Yeah no problem, better than sleeping on the floor." He made a slight pause. "Speaking of which I should get my stuff back into the room, when we're sleeping up there again."
My eyes widened shortly... Did I asked him to sleep with me more often? Like sure it's a good thing he isn't sleeping on the floor or the couch, even though the couch was very soft and yeah good I'm not kicking him out of his room, but sleeping with him? I don't know if I'm prepared for that.
"Are you not alright with us sleeping in one bed? I just figured it would be the easiest to help you with your nightmares and such." He said a little fear plastered on his face.
"No it's ok was just a little surprised." I answered truthfully, he had a point and a good one at that.
Then the air filled with a little bit of silence. I figured he didn't want to risk anything and I'm just shy. It took a few minutes to get a question out of his mouth. "Want to spent some time in the woods today? The weather is screaming for it." My answer was a simple nod with my head again.
"Ok cool, then let's go." He packed a few things and brought them into his car, before shoving me into the passengers' seat and driving off. The woods started near his house, but he seemed to have a special place in mind for us to go.
After a few minutes of driving we stopped at the edge of a smaller road. I stepped out of the car and let the fresh air engulf me and fill my lungs. It was just so much better here, even though we weren't far from the city. If I wouldn't have known better, I wouldn't have guessed a city was a few minutes away from us. The air was so much cleaner, the atmosphere had totally changed and the sounds...
The loud noises of cars and the other kinds of traffic, kids playing on the streets with their constant shouting, and all the blabbering between people had vanished and was replaced by birds singing, the wind slightly howling through the trees, nature being itself. It was just peaceful, something I hadn't experienced in my surroundings in a long time.
"Come on." Nathan said. By now he had grabbed the backpack, in which he had packed all the stuff out of the car and was waiting for me to move. How long was I absent?
We started our big journey through the forest! Ok, not a big journey and I was basically following Nathan the whole time, but whatever! The former sounded so much more interesting. Nathan had to stop like a gazillion times because I was admiring the scenery. I have never seen so many trees together and their size! Huge. At least in comparison to those tiny once from within the city. I have to get out more often. All I still get to see is grey pretty much.
But here? Here everything was brown and mostly green, with the bright blue sky in the background. The dirt path beneath my feet send vibrations through my whole body. It was so strange walking on none concrete walkways and still it was such good feeling. It was just all relaxing for once.
After about half an hour of walking, which could have taken maybe a few minutes if it wasn't for my brain snapping at everything here in awe, we reached a small clearing with a lake in the middle of it. My feet had stopped carrying me forward at this point. This was just looking too beautiful.
When I stopped just looking around I spotted Nathan putting down a big blanket near the lake. He locked his eyes with mine and motioned me to come over. I did what he wanted automatically and sat down besides him. Our bodies set looking towards the water. A small stream was running down into it from a hill on the other side of the lake.
The lake expanded more into the width making it easy to make out animals on the hill on the other side. The water was clean. You could see through it as if it was glass. And in the middle of the Lake was a small group of three small islands with a few small trees on top.
I moved leaned onto Nathans side and started to cuddle him a little. "Nathan this is so beautiful." I whispered, my eyes fixed on the lake. "just call me Nate" was all he answered before laying his head down on mine.
