I love this one too. ... I guess I love all of the Hide's-leading-the-Q-Squad stories.
Okay, this fanfic is (hopefully) going to have a lot of FIGHTING SCENES. If you have read any of my OTHER fanfics with fighting-stuff, you know that I normally just summarize-- the start and the result is all I explain. But hopefully in this one, it's more of actual fighting scenes in this rather than just informing you about the fighting scene.
Note: Hideyoshi Nagachika is a Quinke. He was the first Quinke, and it was an emergency surgery. He is the leader of the Qs, and Ken somehow escaped, I don't know actually. But Ken's still free-reigning out in the world, having nothing to do with the CCG except for being chased by it. Capishe? Capishe. (P.S. Hide's really strong and stuff. Like, possibly as strong as Ken, maybe more, maybe less. I don't know how he compares to Arima since I have not decided where on par he is with Ken.)
Disclaimer: I don't own Tokyo Ghoul (:re).
"Come!" Hide gestured a finger to himself with a serious expression.
Just a year ago, Hideyoshi Nagachika had been found in the sewers, seriously injured. He had an emergency surgery that saved his life-- becoming a Quinke. He still had pale spots where his skin had healed. His nose was always pale, and his limbs were also dotted with pale marks as if he'd been bitten out of. There was another streak along his chin, and a few discolorations dotted his neck.
He usually wore long-sleaved turtle-necks and pants for that reason. The Qs had never seen his feet, and only Shirazu had glimpsed at his arms as a result of walking in on an exhausted Hide. They all had seen one mark of Hide's neck as a result of Hide often scratching into his turtle neck, and of course they'd seen the marks on his face. They never asked, though, about the marks he had. They knew he'd become a Quinke after the Anteiku Raid, and they knew it had been an emergency situation where only becoming a Quinke would save his life. That's all they needed to know.
Shirazu and Urie immediately charged towards the scarred man, and Hide's eyes glinted as his frown deepened.
"What have I said-" Hide threw one of his knives at Shirazu's shirt, "-about being so slow and attacking on different times?" Hide asked, throwing another knife at Urie's shirt. Both of them had been thrust towards the walls, but they immediately took the knives out and charged once more. "Good. Never stop." Hide decided to dodge this time, hopping back. "But you should always be aware of the condition and actions of your other coworkers, even if they are not caring about yours." Urie and Shirazu's eyes widened, and Urie pulled his quinque back to avoid attacking Shirazu. Shirazu also tried to pull his Quinque back, but he'd ended up knicking Urie in the side as they collided. Hide sighed, shaking his head, "Urie, good job acting quickly and taking the blade away to avoid your coworker. I'm impressed. Shirazu, you need to be able to adapt quickly to your surroundings."
Hide lunged for Shirazu, stopping his blade right in front of Shirazu's neck. Shirazu's eyes were wide, and he tried his best to stay still. When gulping, though, a little blood beaded at a small cut. "And always stay on your guard. If this was a real fight, you would be dead right no-" Hide quickly wheeled his knife around to aim at Urie's neck. Urie skidded to a halt, his neck getting knicked just as Shirazu's had, only a little deeper. "-w.
"Good job, Urie. Although I must say, if I was a real opponent, I wouldn't have stopped here." Hide's eyes furrowed, "I would've gone all the way through." Hide pulled his blade back and jumped back, "I believe this fight is over. Both of you would've been dead. Saiko, Mutsuki. Come on up. Urie, Shirazu, take a break."
The two groaned in dissatisfaction. They would never be able to last too long with Hide, would they..? He's way better than them..
Urie and Shirazu settled on the sidelines, sitting down, as Saiko and Tooru stepped up. Shirazu rubbed his neck in discomfort.
Hide smiled, "I look forward to seeing your teamwork."
The reason he normally trained with the Qs as pairs were as follows: Urie and Shirazu needed to work on teamwork, and Saiko and Mutsuki needed to work on strength. Also, Urie and Shirazu could be dangerous while Saiko and Mutsuki paid no danger to their teammates (although Hide does feel like there's something hidden under Tooru's personality.. Of course, he doesn't need to worry about that during training. If it does show up during training, well, Hide'll handle it. He always has a few tranquilizers in his pockets if necessary).
Saiko gripped her hammer, and Tooru shakily gripped her knives.
Needless to say, Hide let back on Saiko and Tooru even more than with Shirazu and Urie. He couldn't fight full-on, or they'd never have a chance, and they wouldn't have room to improve.
He does look forward to truly sparring with them one day though..
"Come," Hide gestured to himself, and Tooru and Saiko immediately ran to his sides. Hide glanced between them, waiting for their next action. Saiko was the one to charge towards him, and Hide wheeled around to fight her head-on. Hide caught Saiko's quinque with his knives, and Tooru threw a knife. The knife barely nicked Hide's cheek, and he smirked back at her. Tooru gulped and threw another knife. It missed again. "Maybe you need target practice, Mutsuki," Hide suggested. Just as the words left his lips, he twisted his knives, digging Saiko's quinque into the ground. Saiko tried to get her quinque out of the tangle while Tooru gulped, focusing on where to throw her knife. She pulled her knife back and threw, praying to God that it hit.
Hide smirked as his rinkaku kagune crept up. His kagune caught the knife's handle just before it hit his head, and he stood up, releasing Saiko's quinque. "Good, good! You have excellent teamwork-- Saiko charges while Mutsuki focuses on getting the ghoul from behind. If you attacked a foolish ghoul with that strategy, you'd win," Hide wheeled around to face Tooru, "This also helps me. Mutsuki, you need knife-throwing practice. We'll buy you a target or something later.
"But keep in mind that ghouls have multiple limbs. If they sense you and your plans, like I did, they can easily dodge and block. But you two, let me ask you something. Say I had dodged the first attack because I wasn't sure if it would hit me straight-on or not. What would happen? What would you do?" The pair thought about it.
"What do you mean, Pappan?" Saiko inquired with a frown.
"I'd be off balance," Hide explained, "You guys would be great against foolish ghouls that dodge and don't focus. If I did so, I want you to attack INSTANTLY. Okay? If they dodge, they'll be off balance, which means you have that instant to attack. They will not be focusing on you in that instant- only the knife. As long as they're foolish. Okay!" Hide clapped his hands together, and all the other Qs wondered when and where he'd put his knives away, "Great job, guys! Mutsuki, let's go get you a target or something. Shirazu, Urie, rest, okay? Saiko, you can resume your games."
"Yaay!!" Saiko cheered, running out and into her room.
Urie sighed, placing his earphones in his ears. He didn't bother to move into another room, closing his eyes and relaxing into his music. Shirazu got up to get some food. Hide and Tooru left the chateau.
---------------------------------
"You can train on this tomorrow, Mutsuki," Hide set the target on the opposite end. Urie seemed to be asleep, so Hide didn't want to put the target near him, just in case Tooru decided to practice now.
"? What about Saiko?"
Hide looked up at Tooru, "She needs to train her endurance. She can only use her kagune once, after all. I plan to make that number increase. This lets me have that time. Then, once you two are better at that.. I think I'll change my focus back to you- you still can't take out your kagune well after all."
Hide and the Qs only trained about once each day. If they had a day off, they might do two, and if they'd battled that day, Hide might let them off, but usually, they only trained once per day.
It worked. Hide could see real progress in his coworkers. Saiko and Mutsuki had really increased their teamwork plans, and Hide's pretty sure they even talked about it together before they'd trained today. There's no way they just made up a plan on the spot like that-- a plan like that needed communication. At their level at least.
Shirazu and Urie had also gotten better. They weren't so stuck-up, as Hide put it, and they had better reaction times. If you asked Hide, they'd even bonded a little from fighting Hide each day. Hide knew that the time was coming soon, that they'd be able to actually fight with good teamwork, even if that was a few months from now. Their attack today was proof of that. Just like Tooru and Saiko, they'd attacked from opposite ends. Of course Hide could block them both at the same time, but it was a start.
----------------------------------------------------
"Come on, Saiko, you have to keep up!!" Hide called.
Hide had woken Saiko up early today and told her that she was going to be training with him, personally.
At the time though, Saiko didn't know that 'training' consisted of chasing him. Saiko's brain was dead enough from having to wake up so early, but now she's just exhausted to the bone.
Saiko grumbled under her heavy breathing, her brain slowly, slowly waking up. She didn't know how long they'd been running, but she was starting to notice that they were going in circles--
They were doing laps around the building.
Saiko skidded to a halt, glaring at Hideyoshi's back.
A grumpy, tired Saiko was the LAST person you wanted to tick off by making her do a pointless thing.
She will NOT be made a fool.
Saiko whirred around and started going the other way. Only a second later, she roared, jumping onto Hide.
"Oh!" Hide fell backwards from Saiko's sudden weight.
"Caught you," Saiko hissed. Hide blinked for a few seconds before laughing heartily.
"Looks like you're awake now, huh?!" he grinned, "Great. But you still need to have more endurance," Hide sat up. Saiko growled, and Hide blinked a few more times. "Uh.. you're angry at me, aren't you..?"
So, due to Saiko being the opposite of happy, they walked back into the chateau.
---
"... (Where is Yonebayashi and Nagachika?)"
Just as Urie was about to fix something simple, the door creaked open, revealing a messy Hide and a very ANGRY Saiko.
Hide laughed as he walked in, "Oh, come on, Saiko!! Running around is a great way to gain endurance!"
"YOU MADE ME RUN AROUND THE CHATEAU FOR NO REASON!!" Saiko screamed, her eyes completely bloodshot.
"It wasn't for no reason, Saiko!!" Hide replied, getting out the eggs, "You need to be able to use your kagune more than once!" Hide got out a pan and shook it towards Saiko, "What better way than to run a few laps? I think it was perfect," Hide got out a spatula, "Besides, you got some mental exercise, too," he got out three bowls, "Very wise, running backwards to catch me off guard," he started cracking the eggs into the bowls, "I won't be so easy next time though. But Saiko, why didn't you do that BEFORE?" he inquired, stirring the egg yolks.
"I was tired."
"Ah, yes, you don't think well the instant you wake up, do you? I should've put that human trait into my calculations. So, Saiko takes a whole hour of running to wake up. Got it. Stored for later use."
"WE WERE RUNNING FOR A WHOLE HOUR?!!!!"
"Um, Hideyoshi-san, why is your hair all disheveled..?" Tooru inquired.
"Mm? Ah, Saiko was mad at me," Hide poured the mixture onto the pan.
"Why would that make your hair messy..?"
"She was hitting me and stuff."
The three Qs turned grim.
Of course it was something like that.. -_-' Hideyoshi is always as hard as he can be.. resulting in being the source of anger in the household. Of course Shirazu and Urie would sometimes be angry at each other, but normally, if someone was angry in this household, it was directed towards Hide and had something to do with training.
"I wonder how long it takes for you guys to wake up. Any ideas?" Hide flipped the egg.
"... (It's not like we count it.)"
So, that was how their morning started.
-------------------
"The report, Mado-san," Hide handed said-person a stack of papers. She raised an eyebrow at him, and he grinned.
"I did it last night!"
"I'm sure the report is as messy as ever."
"Yup! I finished it in five minutes as I was running around with Saiko."
This was news to the Qs, but it wasn't abnormal. In fact, it often happened. Hide somehow always found time for missions, and he quickly carried them out. It was why they had two missions at one time-- Hide always took one of them. This way, the other Qs had room to complete missions. The missions involving them though.. weren't as successful as the ones Hide did as a lonesome wolf..
"You need to take more time on your reports," Mado handed it back to Hide, "I do not want to read the mess you wrote up and decipher your sleep-deprived thoughts."
"Ehhh?!!"
"Write it out proper, Nagachika."
"Mou.."
"How is your other case coming along?"
"Hm? Oh, the Orangehead one? I swear, I have no idea how these investigators come up with these crazy names.. The investigator must've been really hungry fo-"
"Nagachika," Mado glared, interrupting Hide's blabbering.
"Right. Welllll, I decided to let the Qs do the research and plan this time, but.." Hide glanced back at them. "Like usual, Urie found some other ghoul that was completely irrelevant; Shirazu followed Urie and helped make it a complete mess, aaaand me and Mutsuki had to chase after their tail. I ended up saving their a**es like normal. Oh, and, Saiko was sleeping."
"The report for that?" Mado inquired lazily.
These five were such a handful..
"Yeah, I haven't finished that one.." Hide trailed off. The three Qs gave a stack of papers to Mado. "O-Oi, how did you already finish those?!!"
"... (Unlike you, we spend our time intelligently.)"
"What do you mean? I finished it right after."
"I finished it after, too.."
"Huh.." Hide blinked.
"Then, why don't YOU spend time finishing your reports while the Qs get a new mission?"
"EHHHH?!! MADO-SAN, YOU'RE SO COLD!! PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME WRITE ALL DAY!!!" Hide whined, "I HATE REPORTS!!! IT'S THE WORST PART OF THIS JOB!!!"
"Stop making a scene and get to work. Shirazu, Mutsuki, Urie, follow me," Akira walked away.
-----------------------------------------
Hide was still complaining when the Qs got home. He was at the table, doing it, but that didn't mean he was happy about it.
"Making me miss out on a debriefing.." Hide grumbled.
"U-Um, Nagachika-san..?"
"Hmn?" Hide lazily looked up at them.
"Here's the papers for today.. We're still going after the Orangehead, but {I just wanna know, did any of you guys realize the reference? (smirk, smirk) Orangehead is a play-off of Applehead, who is in the actual manga. The old lady that Mado killed, Amon's first kill with him.} there's another squad that's going to be on this case, too, now.."
Hide's eyes darkened, and Tooru stepped back.
Hide didn't like sharing cases. Since the whole CCG was so rude to them, it was no wonder, but he REALLY didn't like sharing cases. He was okay with sharing one with the Qs, but anyone else? Noooooooo way. Out of the question.
"Who?" Hide snarled.
"..Sh-Shimo..k-kuchi.. S-Squad.." Tooru squeaked.
The Qs had worked with the squad before, and it did NOT go over well.. Hide, no doubt, utterly DESPISED the squad.
"WHAT?!!" Hide snapped, shooting up. His chair fell with a bang. "WE'RE WORKING WITH THAT FAT-LIPPED B*ST*RD AGAIN?!! COME ON!!!" Hide grabbed his coat from his fallen chair and stormed out, "Come on, guys! We are going to DEMAND a new squad to work with!"
Hide was the opposite of modest.
So it was no surprise that the reputation of the Q Squad only worsened.
Tooru picked up the fallen chair, and the three quickly hurried after their superior.
