chapter twelve!

MIA WAS PACING AROUND HER ROOM, TRYING TO FIND something to wear.  She had agreed to go to the movies with Cam earlier that day but she didn't really know if it was some kind of date or just a regular hangout.  What about a dress? No, that's a bit too much.  A skirt? Nope, she wore that a few weeks ago.  Pants? Now, Mia wasn't really a pants - wearing girl but she decided to give it a try.  Agreeing on a pair of flared jeans with a green lace cami top, she quickly changed.

As she adjusted the straps on her Mary Janes, her mom walked into her room.  "Hey, baby.  Cam's waiting in the living room.  Are you ready?" Mia nodded her head, "I'll be down in a minute."  The woman smiled, chuckling.  "Okay, sweetheart.  I'll let him know." As Mia's mom left her room, she looked in the mirror. Did she look okay? Was what she had on too much or too little?

"Mia!"

"Coming!"  Grabbing a small purse, she exited her room.  As she walked downstairs, her mind was racing.  Was this a date? Why did she think Cam was cute yesterday? And what movie were they even seeing?

"Hey, Mom, Dad, Alex."

"Aren't you forgetting someone?" Cam asked, earning an eye roll from the girl.  "Where are my manners? Hello, Cameron."

"Wow, I haven't heard that name in a while. What changed?"

"Nothing.  Anyways, shouldn't we start leaving?"

"Yeah.  Bye, Mr. and Mrs. Knight.  Bye, Alex.  We'll be back."

"Have her home by 11... wait, have her home by 1!"

"Or the latest 2!"

"Goodbye, guys." Mia stated, ushering Cam out the door. 

The two were in Cam's car, driving to the theater.  "Wow, if you wanted to spend time with me so badly, you could've asked." the boy teased.

"Shut up, Rodriguez."

"Make me, Knight."  Mia rolled her eyes, "You're so... childish!"

"Really? How?" Cam asked, causing Mia to glare at him.  "You know what? Never mind.  I still stand by what I said.  Let's just go see the movie."

"Wow, that's so mature of you."

"Like you're mature, Rodriguez. What movie are we seeing anyways?"

"You asked me a question and still managed to insult me.  You're on a roll here, Knight.  Anyways, I got us tickets to see She's All That."

"You know that movie?"

"Yeah... Why do you sound so surprised?"  The girl slightly shrugged, looking out the window.  "I didn't think you'd like those types of movies."

"There's a lot you don't know about me, Knight."

"I do, actually."

"Really? What's one of my favorite artists?"

"Steve Lacy."

"That was easy!"

"Okay, then.  Give me a hard one."

"What's my favorite animal?"

"Sea lion."

"Nope."

"Dolphins."

"Not even close."

"Whales."

"That's one of them.  What do you think the other one is?"

"Seals?"

"Yeah, that's the one."

"Really? I got it! You owe me extra popcorn just for that."

"Says who?"

"Says your 'girlfriend'."

"I'm not buying you extra popcorn."

"Please?"

"I never thought that word would ever come out of your mouth."

"I'm not that rude.  I still have manners." Cam's car pulled up in front of the movie theater, causing Mia to feel a bit nervous.  "Rodriguez, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"Is this a date?"

"It could be a fake date since we're not actually together."

"I think that could work.  But maybe we can post something just so people think that something is going on?"

"Wouldn't that be breaking a rule?"

"Well, people in rom - coms do it all the time.  Who says that this isn't any different?"

"That could actually work."

"Aw, look at that. You just agreed with me, Rodriguez."

"No, I didn't."

"Yes, you did."

"No, I didn't. Look, we need to head inside if you want to see the movie."

"Fine.  You still owe me extra popcorn."

THE TWO WERE SITTING IN THEIR ROW, WAITING FOR THE FILM to start.  Much to Cam's dismay, he had to buy Mia extra popcorn.  "Do you want to do a post before or after the movie?"

"Maybe after." Soon enough, the screen turned on as commercials started to play. The beginning of "She's All That" came on as a small smile crept on her face. She couldn't help but glance at Cam and boy was he cute. Wait, there it was again. She thought Cam was cute? What was going on with her? She hated Cam for crying out loud. Sure, he was sweet and really shy but with her, she saw a more confident and sarcastic version of him.

The movie had ended as the two left the theater. They decided to grab something to eat since the popcorn was pretty light.  "That was really good."

"Yeah, it was."

"I just didn't like the whole makeover thing. Laney was already pretty so why should she change herself?"  Cam simply shrugged as he walked with his hands in his pockets. "That's Hollywood for you.  But do you want to post something or should I?"

"Maybe you? My friends will get suspicious if I post something about this."

"Got it."

As they walked into the restaurant, Mia couldn't control the butterflies she felt when she saw Cam smile. It was adorable the way his face lit up as he told her about how the food was really good and the memories he had at the establishment. She was left with a lingering question that night.

How did she really feel about Cam?

BUT at least she's is thinking about how she feels towards Cam (I need them to get together already)
