No, Kitty!
It was just another day for Marinette, beat the latest villain, caught his akuma, no big deal. Chat Noir's ring and her own earrings just seconds away from changing them back and revealing their secret identities once again! No sweat!
All of that was normal for Marrinette Dupain-Cheng. Living the double life of the modern teenager and being a crime fighting super heroine.
So that wasn't even the weird part!
The weird part was the way Chat Noir acted later that night...
*Marrinette's POV*
"Thanks for dinner, Mom! It was really good!"
"Well I'm glad you liked it Marrinette!" Mom sang in, proud of the compliment from her only daughter.
"Well, I'm going to go to bed. Don't want to be late for school tomorrow!" I said, standing from the table to retreat to my bedroom.
"Alright, goodnight Marrinette." Papa chimed as I walked up the stairs to my room.
I changed into my pajamas and redid my pigtails after a long day of saving Paris.
As I made my way to my bed, I heard a knock on my window leading to the balcony. It was dark outside so I couldn't make out a face or any features.
I cautiously made my way to the window and opened it.
The second I unhinged the window, the dark figure threw it open, grabbed me, and yanked me onto the balcony all in such a swift motion, I didn't have time to scream or even blink.
My heart felt like it had stopped for just an instant as the dark figure tossed me to the side and closed the window quietly and slowly.
When he heard the latch click, he wasted no time facing me, standing straight up, and waking in my direction.
He backed me up against the balcony rail so that I couldn't run away. All I could see were a pair giant green eyes, staring holes right through me. He looked serious. "Dead" serious.
"Puuuuuuurincess? Are you okay?"
It was a familiar voice I knew all too well.
"Chat! Don't scare me like that!" I said, glaring at the sly, black cat. "You shouldn't be here anyway! It's really late. You should head-"
He cut me off, lightly pressing one finger to my lips.
"There was something important I had to tell you that couldn't wait." He seemed sincere, not like his usual childish, flirty self.
"What could be so important that it couldn't wait til tomorrow?" I said, rolling my eyes and groaning, acting like I didn't care.
He looked at me concerned.
"There's a problem. It's about Ladybug."
This caught my attention. I stiffened and faced him.
"What about her?" I asked, sweat dripping down my face.
The light was shining on his face just right to add to the mysterious mood. I blushed just a little.
"Well the two of us have been seeing each other for a few weeks now, right?" he began.
"Right...?"
'Where is this cat getting at?' I wondered.
"Well, you see, the thing is I don't know how I feel about Ladybug anymore. All I've been able to think about is you lately, to be honest." He said, his cheeks tenting with pink.
"...?!" I was at a loss for words.
'What is he talking about? He couldn't be saying what I think he's saying is he?'
The same thought raced through my mind as we stood there for a few minutes in an awkward silence. Finally he broke the silence.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is," he began, moving closer. "Marrinette Dupain-Cheng, I think this cat has fallen in love with you."
He hesitated as he took in my reaction.
For the first time with Chat Noir, I was speechless! No quirky come backs. No shooting him down. No nothing. Just shear astonishment spread wide through my mind, but my face said, "you're joking, right?"
I was praying it was a joke, just another Chat Noir prank, but no it was real. It was very real! Chat Noir was in love with Marrinette Dupain-Cheng. But Marrinette Dupain-Cheng was in love with Adrian Agreste. But the more she thought about it, she had slowly fallen for Chat, too!
Did this make her a bad person?
All these thoughts and his words raced through my head like a race car on a track, running circles around my mind.
Suddenly I felt dizzy.
He leaned in closer, within kissing distance.
I stared into his green eyes and he stared into my bluebell eyes. It was pretty intense.
Chat Noir moved in closer, closing his eyes.
'Oh no! Oh no! Oh no, no, no! This can't be happening!' I screamed internally, and not in a good way.
He was just a split second away from kissing me on the lips when I brought my finger up and pressed it against his.
He stopped, loosening his grip on the rail behind me.
He blinked twice, confused.
"No kitty!" I exlaimed, shoving my way past him and retreating, once again, to my room. "I have to sleep. I have school tomorrow!"
I stopped to face him for a moment. He looked disappointed.
I sighed.
"If you want to wrap this up," I began, catching his attention. I hesitated. "Come back tomorrow night. But not so late, got it?"
His face lit up with joy.
"Right!" he said, turning to rail and hoping up on it. "So it's a date!"
He grinned without letting me answer and took off into the night.
I sighed, happily.
'Wait til Tikki here's about this!' I thought. 'Wait! Tikki!'
I had forgotten I left her down there alone! She must be so worried!
"Tikki!" I shrieked, fumbling down my stairs from the balcony.
"Marrinette!" she shrieked, flying across the room, tackling my face with hugs.
"I'm sorry, Tikki! But you're never going to believe this!" I said.
