You are getting ready for some preseason testing but your mind is occupied by something else. The need to choose a new lead mechanic is weighing on your mind because they are the person that could make or break your championship challenge. The good thing is you have the perfect person in mind however you are going to have a hard time convincing your boss that it would be a good idea. Hopefully, you will be able to use your influence to secure the person that you want. It doesn't take you long to reach your boss' office to talk to him about your new lead mechanic.

"What can I do for you, Ayrton?" Your boss says as he looks up from his work.

"I need to talk to you about my lead mechanic," You announce. He gives you a confused look.

"I thought we discussed it," He responds. You are not surprised by his confusion but you didn't really reach a conclusion.

"We did but I didn't reach a conclusion," You respond. You are a little worried about what you are going to say next. Thankfully you have had time to think after the last meeting. You can tell that your boss is getting increasingly confused.

"Well, I've reached a conclusion. I want Jamie Perez as my lead mechanic," Your announcement sends a shiver down your boss' spine. You don't really know why when she has proven herself as a good mechanic.

"Are you sure?" He questions you. You nod because you feel like you don't need to explain yourself. You are the kind of person that doesn't often change their mind. It has been a couple of hours since your meeting and you are watching your team of mechanics. Two of them are engaged in an interesting debate.

"I am telling you Antonio we can only tell once Ayrton takes the car out for testing," The youngest mechanic responds to whatever was said before. You clear your throat to grab their attention. They stop their bickering.

"First of all I'd listen to Jamie and second of all, I am ready to get to work on testing the car," You announce. You can feel the curious looks from the mechanics. Thankfully Jamie is the one that helped you into the car. It doesn't take you long to get to work on testing the car. Whilst you are testing the car you are also thinking about the best way to tell Jamie that she is your lead mechanic. The good thing is the car is running smoothly. It doesn't take you long to complete the necessary amount of laps for the engineers. You make your way into the pits. You have decided to tell Jamie that she is your lead Mechanic yourself.

"Jamie I need to talk to you alone," You pull her away from the car. Jamie is surprised because you don't normally interact with a specific mechanic. She reluctantly follows you to the hospitality area.

"What can I do for you, Ayrton?" Jamie asks. You can tell that she is nervous. You know it is because she thinks you are going to ask her to leave. The thought makes you feel a little guilty.

"I need you to take on the responsibility of being my lead mechanic," You announce. She seems confused. Again You are not surprised. You explain what you mean.

"Yes I understand that I am a good mechanic but I'm not the best," Jamie responds.

"Let's just say I trust you more than the others," You deliver the final blow in your argument. Jamie now seems satisfied with your line of thinking. Hopefully, you can convince the rest of the team that you have made the right choice. It has been a week since the pre-season testing and you are getting ready for the first race of the season. You can feel the excitement for the race. You find yourself watching Jamie as she works. You find it odd how she hasn't noticed you yet. You know that is normal for the mechanics to get so engrossed in their work that they fail to take notice of their surroundings. The thought makes you smile because you know the feeling.

"Is there anything wrong Ayrton?" Jamie enquiries having finally looked up from her work.

"Not unless you found something wrong with the car," You respond.

"Well then you are good for the rollout," Jamie retorts. It doesn't take long for the rollout to start and you are glad because the only thing you have to worry about is the performance of your rival Alain Prost. At least you start the race well. It seems like Alain has not had the same luck as you. You manage to get through the chaos but something doesn't feel right. You decide to ignore it because Jamie and her team wouldn't be able to fix it quick enough.

"Just so you are aware Alain is closing the gap but he is struggling," The team principal updates you. You get to work on making sure you can defend your position. You can feel the oversteer clawing at the car. Thankfully you are able to counteract the oversteer. The issue is you run wide and Alain is able to overtake you. After an hour of racing, you are trying your best to get past Alain however there is not much time. You make your move as you come around the last corner. You are not surprised that you are able to pass Alain. Like you, he has been struggling. You spot the chequered flag which means you have come first. You are a little annoyed because the race was a little too close for comfort. It doesn't take long for you to reach the pits. Jamie helps you out of the car.

"Jamie I think you may want to check the suspension," You inform her after freeing yourself from your helmet.

"I noticed that there was something wrong. I'll have a look when I get the chance," Jamie acknowledges you. It doesn't take her long to get to work. She looks horrified at what she sees.

"I can help you if you want," You offer because she looks like she may need help. You also feel a little guilty for not telling her during the race.

"Ok. I'll take your help," Jamie responds. The two of you get to work on getting the car fixed. After an hour of working the car is finally fixed.

"Thank you for your help, Ayrton," Jamie remarks as she steps back from the car.

"I'm glad that I could help," You respond. At least your day went well despite the issues. You have the added bonus of working closely with Jamie. The thought puts a slight smile on your face. Something tells you there will be a lot of these moments between you and Jamie.
