Chapter 11

A Walk In The Dark

"What kind of request?" She didn't know whether to be excited or nervous. Considering that it was Dominick, she chose the latter. You couldn't always trust someone as sly as him.

"The request is that you're going to be my walking stick buddy. Plus, you have to make sure we don't get caught together like this. I'll telling you where to go." He smiled a secret-sort of smile and leaned closer to Iyana. His face slightly close to hers.

"We have to take a back way I know, so I'll tell you when to turn and when to stay out of sight." His intentions was to clearly draw out this little walk to his room, only for the sake of being close to Iyana. At least this way, she may begin to feel something for me.

The weight of his arm around her shoulder surprised her, and she drew in a sharp breath. I have a feeling his alibi isn't exactly 100% true. "Uh.. okay." She said, a barely noticeable blush sprawling across her face, "Just...tell me where to go."

She's cute when she doesn't know what to say. Too bad things can't stay like this. Dominick noticed the aversion of her gaze, which showed her uncertainty.

She started walking toward the exit to the room, glancing over at Dominick every so often. His face is so close... No, stop it. She shook the thought away, but she couldn't stop the feeling that she had, despite feeling disliked towards him.

With Iyana's help, Dominick followed behind her to the exit. As they reached the doorway, he shifted a little on his feet. "First, Princess, we check both ways to make sure no one is coming along the hall. Don't you know how to sneak around?" He teased. Peeping around the corner, he looked from side to side.

 She scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"Do you even know me, Dominick?" She asked, walking quietly down the hall, despite the baggage hanging off of her shoulder.

"I know how to get around, it's not my first time."

Seeing no one, he instructed Iyana to go out. Upon walking out a few steps, Dominick pulled Iyana to a stop. He listened. Hearing nothing, he instructed her to go on. They took several turns before they reached the circular stair case.

They walked down the halls, stopping behind each corner to make sure no one was coming. The halls started looking slightly more familiar, she knew that his room wasn't so far off. As they reached the staircase the voices caused her to stop in her tracks.

"Now you get to help me up." He spoke, a happy notch in his tone. He knew his room wasn't far now.

As they took their first few steps on the stair case, talking came floating down from the stairs. The heavy voice of the king reached Dominick's ears. He muttered something.

What do we do... she thought, her heart starting to beat slightly faster.

"Quick." On his side, he bang once on the wall. A door handle popped out. Grabbing the handle quickly, Dominick pulled open the door. The other side was dark. "In here quickly," He ordered in a whisper.

She quickly helped him into the dark corridor and stopped as it closed behind her.

As the door closed behind her she looked around panicked, her heart rate rising slightly. But somehow, Dominick's weight on her shoulder and the sound of his breathing calmed her down slightly. She took a break for a second, shaking her nerves off. "Now, where to?" She asked quietly.

Once the door was shut, Dominick listened for the passing of the group on the stairs. He was sure they had passed when Iyana spoke beside him. He looked ahead.

"We take this path straight until we come to the first turn. Hope you ain't scare of spiders. They tend to drop down unexpectedly."

A quick flashback to his childhood reminded him of a time where he had wandered along these very corridors. Being seven at the time, he had been a scary type of child. He remembered a spider landing on his shoulder and that he ran screaming through the halls until his butler found him. The thought brought a smile to his face.

"I'm ready when you are." His smile turning into a frown as he faced Iyana. In the dark hall, he could barely made out her face. His arm around her and the warmth of her body ensured him that she was standing next to him. He shifted just a little to easy away some pressure he had put on his injured side.

"They may be a little creepy but I'll manage." She said simply. Spiders used to be the devil. Her childhood friends would always tease her and scare her because of her irrational fear."Besides," she said, laughing softly, "It's for a good cause, my head is on the line here."

As they started walking she looked around, trying to see something in the barely-there light of the passage way.

It wasn't too long after that Iyana walked into a spider web and shrieked slightly, her skin crawling. She let go of Dominick to wipe off her face frantically and shivered as she shook off the feeling.

As they moved alone, he searched his mind for the correct way out of this place. Hearing Iyana's cry and being tossed away, Dominick found himself having to catch himself.  While Iyana flagged at her face, Dominick wrapped an arm around his side as he moved toward her. He had been alarmed slightly until he realised just what she was experiencing. A smile curved his lips upward.

Smiling sheepishly, she laughed. "Never-mind... spiders still obviously give me the creeps..." She said, putting his arm over her shoulders again.

He allowed her to take his arm. Settled back into place, he chuckled. "The one girl to injury me is afraid of spiders. That figures. Maybe I should use one in our next battle." He chimed happily.

She laughed mockingly. "Nothing scares me in the heat of battle!" She exclaimed, throwing her free arm up dramatically, copying one of her past suitors who she despised. She gained her composure, and spoke again. "But seriously, I'm not going to let you win because of such a small, useless creature. It was nothing more than an unexpected surprise..." She said, gesturing to the spot back where she ran into the spider web. "And I promise I won't mane you too badly..." She chuckled softly.

"Got that right."

Iyana's laughter brought a smile to his face. He suppressed laughing alone with her, due to the fact that his injury would cause him pain if he laughed. The dark hall was one Dominick was familiar with. He less the way, despite Iyana being the one whom carried part of his weight.

They were close to their destination. Just a few more steps and they should arrive at the door that would open out into the hallway that would less to his room.

Glancing over at Dominick, she looked away and smiled softly. She was glad they were back on speaking terms, but she was still weary. She honestly didn't know if his head was completely right or not. Power can sometimes do that to people. However, she wasn't afraid to set him right if he went power hungry again.

They arrived at the end of the dark passage way and she stopped, waiting for the sound of the busy hallways to clear. She could tell from the sounds that his room wasn't too far off. Even though she hadn't been there that long, she could tell fairly well where they were. She tended to pick these things up quickly.

Dominick smiled at her little show of bravery. One of the things he found adorable about Iyana was her dramatic expressions. For a moment, he forgotten his injury as he though back to Iyana days earlier, when he took her. "I'll like to belief you're fearless, Princess, but you know. I just can't see you as a fearless type." He waited until she took her formal position at his side.

Iyana kept her arm around Dominick, listening to him more as a courtesy act. She rolled her eyes. "Do you even know me, Princess Dominick?" She said, smirking. "I'd say I'm more fearless than you are. I'm at least the stronger one anyways." She said, chuckling softly.

Once reaching the end, Dominick stepped away from Iyana. Founding the door in the dark, he pulled on the handle. Peeking out, he saw that the hall was clear.

"Alright. You know the way to my room. It's the one on the right." He gestured Iyana over to his side. "Come." He looked to her with a smirking smile.

I think I enjoy her doing things for me. Who knew this would be so much fun?
