Chapter Nine

Barry must have lost consciousness some time while he was in the coffin because when he came around again, Korxky was opening the lid. He should have taken that chance to try to get away and in any other scenario, he would have. However, he was so weak he could barely move his arms; all the panicking and hyperventilating he'd done had sapped all of his energy.

There must have been a gap in time and in his mind because the next thing he knew, he was being tossed on a bed. The same bed from earlier. Barry blinked and stared at the man hovering over him, detached from reality and unable to move. He knew what was going to happen and that he was not going to be rescued in time.

Barry closed his eyes and turned his head to the right as he felt Korxky's hands fumbling with his belt. He wasn't going to open his eyes, he didn't want to see the look on his face. He was terrified.

The feeling of his pants being taken off without his consent, made his stomach drop considerably. This was really going to happen and he couldn't do a thing to stop it.

"Don't worry, Barry." Korxky whispered in his ear. "I'll be gentle."

Barry remained silent, his body stiff with paralyzing fear, and waited. He heard the sound of a zipper and he clenched his hands into fists, waiting with dread for the inevitable. Just when he spread Barry's legs, there was the sound of an explosion.

Opening his eyes, he watched Korxky scramble to get off of him and reached for something to the right. Barry watched the door fly open and was surprised to see Len and Mick storm inside.

Their eyes immediately found him and at the sight before them, it was like a bomb went off inside their heads. Len raised his cold gun at the same time Mick raised his heat gun and were preparing to shoot the man.

Korxky was way ahead of them, as he had pulled a gun from his discarded pants and let off three shots. Barry didn't know if any of the bullets found a target but he couldn't let someone get hurt for his wellfare. As drained as he was, he found the strength to move.

Barry sat up fast, everything moving in slow motion, as he used his speed to put his pants back on and tackle the man to the ground. Korxky backhanded him with the butt end of the gun and Barry fell back onto the floor, completely drained now. He had never felt so weak before in his life, not like this.

"I thought you had learned your place, Barry." The man stood over him, his face a mask of anger. "You think they can save you?! That they can beat me?!"

Korxky kicked Barry in the stomach and the speedster curled in on himself. He had to keep his resolve, he couldn't give up. Not after Len had come to save him. Glaring up at the man, he said, "Fuck you."

"You stupid, naíve boy!" Korxky snarled. The next thing Barry knew, he was being grabbed by the front of his shirt collar and lifted up. He was slammed into the wall by the bed and groaned, his body feeling weak. The man wrapped his hands around his throat and began strangling him. "You are not going anywhere!"

Barry gasped out of surprise and lack of air reaching his lungs. The man's grip on his throat was strong and he weakly tried to pry his hands off of his neck. He was starting to gasp like a fish out of water and his face was turning red from the exertion of suffocating. Barry whimpered in pain and fear, even when the world tilted backwards, as they fell back onto the bed.

"If I cannot have you, then NO ONE CAN!" Korxky screamed deliriously.

Famous last words.

Just as Barry's body gave up the fight and his eyes started to close, a four inch thick icicle pierced through the man's back and spine, hitting his heart and exiting a little out of his chest; it had gotten lodged halfway through the mans body.

The man froze and his hands released Barry's throat, allowing the speedster to suck in lungfuls of air. He could feel the temperature of the room drop and he stared as Korxky dropped to the floor. His eyes found that of Leonard Snarts and he felt his resolve shatter. Seeing him, standing there with his cold gun, smoke filtering from being used, his face hard as ice, the CSI broke.

Barry broke into sobs, tears streaming down his face; his legs no longer able to support his weight, finally crumpled underneath him. Len was suddenly at his side, catching him and the contact really only made him sob harder. If they hadn't arrived when they did...Barry couldn't even imagine what it would have been like. To have that taken away from him like so much other things had been. He knew he wouldn't have survived the aftermath of his own mind.

Barry didn't notice when he was positioned better in Len's arms or when he was taken back home to S.T.A.R Labs. Time kind of seemed meaningless, it slowed down and sped up as if trying to gain his attention but he was lost in his thoughts and fear of what could have happened.

The last thing he saw was Oliver rushing toward him, his face a mask of disbelief.

The world went black.
