U: Hey

Part of Keith- probably the sane side, urged him to ignore the unknown number. The other part wanted to test the waters of having a friend for once. Even just a fake one.

K: Hi

U: Ha I wasn't sure you'd reply

K: Neither was I 

U: Then why did you? You could just block me and never talk to me again 

K: I don't know

U: Fair

U: How are you?

As if Keith was going to admit he'd been laying in bed, staring at the ceiling for 2 hours. He hadn't eaten dinner because their house was devoid of all food and it wasn't like he had the money to order something. Keith hated being at home more than he hated being at school, especially during his dad's depressive episodes. They could last between days and months and Keith hated it. One day their landlord was going to stop accepting late payments and that would be it. He'd be on the streets. Dead in a week.

K: I'm okay

U: Same

U: What ya up to?

K: Nothing much

U: I'm just watching a TV show 

K: Anything good?

He was only asking because he hadn't watched anything in a while and wanted some inspiration. He'd probably need to illegally download it because Netflix was enough fixed cost that he would need to maintain and couldn't afford.

U: Love Victor

U: It's a spin off of Love Simon

Weird. The unknown person had bothered learning gay pop culture for a dare. To him, it seemed a bit extreme but the popular kids would do anything to maintain their reputation. It was pathetic.

K: I haven't seen it

U: It's really good

U: It's about a guy called Victor going through an identity crisis in high school. Kind of reminds me of myself lol

K: Nice

U: Yeah

U: It's like.. revolutionary.

U: If I had seen a show like that during my identity crisis at 13 I would have felt so valid. It would have helped me a lot

That seemed oddly deep and relatable for a heterosexual popular kid. Keith almost believed he was telling the truth for a moment.

K: Same I guess 

U: It's all so scary so knowing I wasn't alone would have been nice

K: Yeah

The unknown number didn't reply so Keith could only have assumed he fell asleep. Instead of following suit, Keith proceeded to stare at the ceiling with thoughts circling his head like a hawk and its prey.
