Wayne

I woke up in a nice, cozy, warm bed. I slowly sat up in the sunlight-deluged room and gazed around, wondering where I was at and what had happened to me. Then everything rushed to me like a wave: Bebe. Fight. Those kids. The robot. No more car. Blizzard. Wanting to die. Right.

I observed the room I was in from the bed, noticing the wooden walls, dresser, and closet that were in front of me. I then spotted fresh clothes on the edge of the bed. Nice.

I got up, dressed up, and exited the room, walking down the narrow, wooden hallway, into the dining room and foyer of the house I was in.

There, I found a man with short, spiky blond hair, cooking on the stove. He must've felt my presence, because he turned around and looked at me.

I faced me and his eyes lit up. "Ah, so you found the clothes! Good!" He flipped a pancake that was in the pan. "You had a good night sleep?"

"Yeah, thanks." I smiled sheepishly.

"No problem." He flashed me warm smile and turned back to his cooking.

I gazed around, not knowing what to do next.

"You can go to the fridge and pull out the apple juice, if you want," the guy told me, like as if he read my mind.

"Okay." I walked over to the fridge and pulled out a pitcher of apple juice. Then I walked around the countertop and placed it on the table, which was already set up.

"Hold up, I am almost done," he mumbled.

"Alright." I sat down. "You need anymore help?"

"Nope, I'm good." The guy ambled over to the table, carrying two pans. He slid eggs and bacon on an empty plate in the middle and a batch of pancakes on another plate. He set the pans in the sink and sat across from me. "Let's eat!"

We began to eat quietly, not talking to each other. I would've been very uncomfortable, eating at some random guy's house, but I was starving, so I didn't really care.

"What's your name?" the guy asked me, looking up from his plate.

"Oh, ummm..." I swallowed down some bacon. "Toosk. Toosk Mjalmersson."

"Nice to meet you, Toosk. I'm Wayne Brooks." He gazed back down at his plate and eats some egg.

I scrutinized him for a moment. "You Finnish? You look Finnish."

"Yup." He reverted his eyes up at me. "You?"

"Kyllä," I replied back to him in Finnish; a smirk grew on my face. Yes.

"Mahtava." He smiled at me back. Awesome.

"So..." I gazed back at my plate and began cutting up a pancake.

"Where do you live?" Wayne asked me.

"Errr..." I stared up at the ceiling in deep thought. "...about two and a half hours from here."

His eyes went wide. "You walked the whole way?"

"No!" I made a bewildered look at him. "Why would I?! That would be insane!"

"Oh." He frowned a bit, darting his eyes down on to the floor. "Well, I found you lying in the snow during a blizzard..."

"Oh yeah, that..." I sighed. "My car was damaged badly, so I had to walk."

"Okay." Wayne's eyes lit up with understanding while looking at me. "Now I get it." He ate a piece of a pancake.

I gazed around my surroundings, studying the small, wooden, yet cozy house. "You live here all by yourself?"

He stopped eating by dropping his fork to aside. "Yup." He frowned a bit.

"In the middle of nowhere?"

"Yup." Wayne looked a bit uncomfortable.

"You okay?" I gave him with a weird look.

"Yeah...It's just that I didn't live here all by myself at first..." He adjusted himself in his seat with the same expression.

I rose my eyebrows. "Oh, who lived with you before?"

"My wife."

"You're married! Nice." I flashed him a grin.

"Yeah..." Wayne's eyes dropped down to the table.

"Well..." I looked around the room. "Where is she?"

"Gone...I think." He looked back up at me with uncertainty in his expression.

"You...think?" I narrowed my eyes.

Wayne sighed. "It's quite a long story."

I leaned back on the chair. "I'm up for a long story."

He just stared at me with a frown.

I threw my hands up in the air while straightening up quickly. "Well, I mean, if you don't want to tell it to me, then that's fine! You don't have to, I was just wondering--"

"No, no, it's fine." Wayne began to cut something on his plate. "I'll tell it to you."

"You sure?" I knitted my eyebrows together.

He nodded his head. "Hm, hm."

"Okay..." I slumped back into the seat.

Wayne dropped his eating utensils and looked up at the ceiling. "It happened about four years ago, two years after I was married to my wife. Her name was Saga, and let me tell you, she was the most beautiful person on earth. Well, in my opinion, she is." He chuckled at bit. "She always loved to fly. Not like a superhero or anything, but fly planes. Her father was a pilot, so that's where she got the love to fly. I've ridden with her before a few times and she's a good pilot, I can tell you that much. But there was always this dream she always had..."

"And...what was that?" I asked.

"To fly across the Pacific Ocean alone. I don't know why, but she wanted to." He shrugged. "I told her not to because, y'know, it's dangerous. The biggest ocean in the world! Imagine, seeing roaring waves benath you, no land in sight for, I don't know, ten hours straight! It's crazy!

"But she told me that all of her other flights were successful and this one was gonna be like the other ones. She told me that she knew what she was doing and that she wouldn't do anything that would put her in danger. Her name means 'the seeing one' in Icelandic, so that's why she's named Saga: because she can see what's good and bad and avoid the bad situtations. I've always had believened that until..." He bit his bottom lip.

"Until what?"

"Until she took off. Took off to achieve her dream." He slumped in his chair with dismay. "I remember her plane rising into the air, disappearing into the horizon of the ocean." He looked up at something that seemed like it was behind me. "It was evening and she told me before she hopped on that she was going to come back and call me when she lands on the other side of the ocean."

"So...did she make it?"

Wayne shrugged. "After that..." Worriness crossed his face. "...I never saw her ever since. Never had any signs that she made it... Heck, I don't even know if she's alive!"

"Oh..." I was starting to feel bad now for making him say such a sad story; but he still continued on.

"People would tell me that she's dead after a year had gone by. But I think that she's still alive...She's the seeing one. I-I don't want to lose hope, but..." Tears began to stream down Wayne's face. "...it seems like she's...never gonna come b-back." Then he broke down just like that.

"Hey..." I got up and hugged Wayne the best I could. "I'm sorry that you had to tell that story--"

He shook his head vigorously. "No, no..." He sniffed. "It's fine...I had to tell it someone one day..." He grabbed his napkin and wiped his eyes.

I stepped back and slid back into my chair.

It was quiet for a moment; I didn't know what to do next, since I felt pretty terrible.

Wayne looked at me. I smiled at him. He smiled back at me, but then frowned.

"If she loves you...," I started, "she'll find a way back to you. Even if it takes a millennium."

Wayne nodded his head. "Because she's the seeing one."

"Yeah." I smirked.

He smiled. "Thanks."

I made an odd look. "For what?"

"Putting up with me and my emotions."

"Oh, it's okay." I shrugged.

"Thanks...again..." Wayne looked around. "Ugh, I gotta buy a clock to put on the walls."

"You don't know what time it is?"

"No..." He looked straight at me. "Do you know what time it is?"

I dug into my pockets, looking for my phone. "Uhhh...I don't have my phone..."

"Oh, I got it." He pulled out his phone and turned on its screen. "Oh my...I need to get going." He got up and walked over to the front door.

"Wait, where are you going?" I looked over my shoulder to see Wayne, who was grabbing a gray coat off from a rack of other coats that was located next to the door.

"I need to meet with someone." He put on the coat. "Do you mind if you stay here?" He pointed at the ground while looking at me with wide eyes.

"Oh sure..."

"Okay thanks." A small smile appeared on his face. "This nice guy is gonna give a way better place to live."

I looked around my surroundings, then back at Wayne. "What's so bad about this house? It's nice."

"It's in the middle of nowhere. And he says that he knows where Saga's at."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?"

"Yeah." He nodded his head excitedly.

I was beginning to feel a bit suspicious. "Do you know if she's alive?"

"No, I just told you that."

"But she's alive if this 'nice guy' knows where she's at--"

"Toosk, I have to go. We can talk about him later," Wayne cut in gravely. "Nähdään myöhemmin." See you later. Then he left the house.
