Powers

"So, you decided to come back," I heard Wayne say as I entered his house with my head dipped down.

I sighed and closed the wooden door behind me. "Yeah..."

I sensed him coming up to me. "Well, I'm glad you changed your mind!" He patted my back and led me to the dining table.

Wow, very forgiving, I thought in surprise as I neared the chair I usually sit on.

I sat down and watched with Wayne sitting in front of me.

"So," he started off, "what happened?" He interlaced his fingers with an curious look.

I thought for a moment; my eyes slide off to the top right. "Well...I found my missing friend."

"Your missing friend?"

I land my eyes back at Wayne. "Yeah... I have a friend who's gone missing. I looked for him everywhere. But now I finally found him." I would have propped my arms on the table, but my hand was occupied with Lance's blade and I was not really sure that I should show it to Wayne. So with that, I kept my hands on my lap.

Wayne rose his eyebrows. "Oh, neat! Where is he?"

"He left." I shrugged.

He made a confused look. "Why?"

"Because...he tried to kill me," I told him with a taut, awkward tone.

"What?" Wayne looked taken aback, now gawking at me. "Your friend...tried to kill you?"

"Yeah," I said more strongly.

"Why?"

I shrugged with pursed lips. "En tiedä." I don't know.

Wayne looked out the window that was next to him. He frowned with lowered eyebrows. "Where the heck is my truck?" he calls out to the window.

My heart sunk. Whoops. "Well, about that..." I saw Wayne slowly turing back to me with a serious look. "It's damaged. Very well." I made a grimacing look, ready to brace myself for his reaction.

"Sinun täytyy olla tosissasi." You gotta be kidding me. Wayne stuffed his head in his arms and groaned. "Toosk, that was my only way of transportation other than my feet!"

"I know, I know, I'm sorry!" I cried out to him, throwing my hands into the air.

"How the hell did it get messed up?" He straightened back up with wide, crazy eyes. "Is the damage even that bad?"

"Oh, it's pretty bad," I told him tentatively. "I believe that you'll have to buy a new one."

"How did it get that bad then?" I asked a bit more sincere.

"Well, my friend, Lance, slammed into it multiple times, making the truck and me fall down the cliff," I said to him matter-of-factly.

Wayne rose his eyebrows. "And you survived?"

"Uhhh..." My eyes shifted a bit. "...the cliff wasn't that deep..."

"But the truck didn't survive."

"Not really." I automatically placed my hands on the table's surface.

"You owe me new one then." There was graveness in Wayne's eyes.

"Yeah." I nodded my head slowly, gritting my teeth.

He looked down at my hands with an inquiring look. "What's that you're holding?"

I quickly realized he was talking about. "Oh, this?" I held up Lance's small silver blade a few inches away from the table's top. "It's from Lance."

"And...why do you have it?" Wayne titled his head a bit.

"'Cause...he pinned me to a tree with it so that my death would be easy."

His eyes flew wide open. "Yikes. You got an insane friend."

"He wasn't insane before." I adjusted myself in my seat. "I don't know what happened to him." I sighed and look to my side.

"Can I see it?" I heard Wayne asking me gently.

"Sure." I slid the blade against the wooden surface over to him.

He picked it up and examined it carefully with narrowed eyes; the blade was now letting off glints of light due to the sunlight. "Does your friend have any powers?" he breathes out.

I knitted my eyebrows with my eyes glued on the blade. "Why?"

"Because this came from him, right?" He pointed the blade at me.

"Yeah..."

"I can feel it. The power," he told me seriously.

I gave Wayne a bewildered look. "What?"

Wayne lifted his eyes up from the blade and at me. "Didn't you feel it? The power?"

"I don't even know how power feels like!" I objected, almost chuckling.

"It's like a vibration. Here." He handed the blade back to me.

I took up the blade into my own hand and waited. Suddenly, I felt the vibes tingling against my fingers.

My eyes widened. "I feel it."

"So that means that you have powers," I heard Wayne state.

I snapped my eyes up at him. "What?"

"Do you?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Do I have powers?"

"Yeah." He nodded once.

"Uhhh..." I felt my face go red. "Yeah..."

"It seemed like it since you survived so many events that a regular person would die in," Wayne pointed out, pointing at me.

"Nah, my powers can't do that." I placed the blade back on the table. I had enough of its vibes.

Wayne chuckled. "What powers do you have?"

"Um, well, it's kinda hard to explain, but..." I shifted in my chair; I began counting my powers off with my fingers. "Let's see, so I have the ability to control magnetic stuff--"

"And you weren't able to save my truck," Wayne cat in flatly. "Lovely."

I gritted my teeth and made an anxious look. "I tried."

"Go on." He flicked his hand at me.

"Um, my hand can turn into a gun... And I have these blue disc energy things that can come out from me and...yeah." I ended up holding up three fingers.

"I saw that one: the discs." Wayne wagged his pointing finger in the air. "But I wasn't sure if that came out from you or someone else. And your hand can turn into a gun... Interesting."

"Yes, it is." I narrowed my eyes at him. "How do you know about this power stuff and all?"

"'Cause I have some of my own," Wayne told me matter-of-factly

My eyes widened. "Oh really?"

"Yeah." A small smile grew on Wayne's face.

"Which ones?"

"Well..." His eyes roamed around. "I'm an angel, for one." They landed back on me.

An angel? I felt like laughing, but I kept it in. "Aren't you suppose to be in heaven if you're an angel?"

"Call me an earth angel, I dunno--" He threw his hands into the air. "--I just have the wings."

I leaned from side to side, searching for his wings. "I don't see them."

"Of course you can't--they're hidden." His crooked smile was growing larger.

"How?"

"Look." Wayne got up. He began to unbutton his shirt, revealing his undershirt. He took that off and tossed it on his chair, revealing his bare upper body. But over him were black straps, positioned like hiking backpack straps. He unbuckled those and threw them onto the table into a pile and...

My eyes widened. Whoa.

There, next to Wayne, were the biggest, whitest wings I have ever seen in my life. They looked so soft and huge and...well, they look so strong and beautiful; many things were going through my mind.

I almost fell back on my chair from leaning back in awe. "That is so...cool."

He shrugged. "Thanks. You're practically the only one who knows about this."

"Can you fly?" I asked, still with astonishment.

"Well...I'm working on that. I just got them." His wings fluttered with small movements.

"Oh." My voice dropped. "How?"

"From Pierre."

I felt my body go num; I casted my eyes to aside. "Should've known. That's how I got mine."

"Yeah, he gives powers to everyone. But not everyone, just some specific people," I heard Wayne telling me.

"So I take it that he gave Lance powers as well," I mumbled to the floor.

"He also has powers then."

"Yeah, I remember." I gazed back at Wayne, who was still standing up with his wings. "He was able to turn his hand into a knife, a blade. Like how I'm able to turn my hand into a gun."

"Ah." He raised his eyebrows.

Then an idea popped into my mind. "You know what?"

He crossed his arms. "What?"

"It's been bothering me, but...is it okay if I can return back to my house and, y'know, check on my wife?" I fiddled with my hands in an anxious way.

"But we're stuck. The truck's gone." Wayne extends his hand toward the window, which was showing the vast, truck-less land with rolling hills.

"Then I can take a cab or a train or something." I shrugged. "I need to leave sooner or later."

"Do you have any money, though." He dipped his head and shot me a concerned expression.

"Ohhh..." I paused for a moment. "Now that can be a problem."

"You know what?" Wayne grabbed his shirt and undershirt from his seat. "I'll take you; my treat."
