Kids

I drove through the night, with tears ecaping from my eyes. The small arguement kept on repeating in my mind like a broken record. Now, I don't have a home because Bebe kicked me out. So does that mean that I'm divorced with her or what...?

While driving down the dusky road, I spotted two kids in the rays of my headlights; I had to immediately halt.

What the heck are they doing on a two-lane road, in the middle of a forest, almost to midnight?

I waited for them to cross, but they began walking up to me. Oh no, you got to be kidding me...

The taller kid, which was a girl in her teens with blond hair, knocked on my closed window.

I looked at her and gave her the signal to go away.

She just gave me the signal to roll down my window.

I don't even know who you are. I shook my head and told her to go away with more hand motions that went along with my message.

She just stood there and crossed her arms and a serious expression.

I shrugged and pressed on the gas pedal. If you don't go, then I'll go. My car began to roll away until I felt it jerk backwards and halt in place. What the heck...?

I pressed on the gas pedal, it felt like something strong was holding back my car. Gosh darn it...

Muttering angrily in Finnish under my breath, I got off the car and slammed the door behind me. I found the two kids standing behind my car; I disregarded them and went over to my bumper.. I looked at it and saw that it was majorly dented and squeezed, like as if a giant grabbed it.

I then gazed at the kids. "What do you want?"

"Are you Too--"

The girl covered the little boy's mouth with her mouth and hushed him. "We don't have a home and we're wondering if we can stay with you," she told me.

"Uhhh, no." I raised an eyebrow. "Go find another person." I began to walk away.

"Oh please," I heard her continuing on pleading, "we've been rejected by so many people, please let us stay--"

"I don't have a home of my own as well. Go find another person," I snapped at her, not budging to look at her.

I sensed the girl and the boy followed me to the driver's seat. "Where are you going to sleep then?"

I opened the front door. "I don't know--" I got into the car and faced them. "--here?"

"Maybe we can find a place where all of us can sleep at." The girl suggested.

"No." I held onto the handle of the inside of the car door.

"C'mon, please?" She made a begging look.

"No." I pulled my arm toward me so that I would close the door, but it wouldn't move. I looked up and saw the girl holding the door with her hand. I tried to pull it close to me again, but the door still wouldn't budge. I let go after three times trying and let out a sigh of exhaustion.

The girl looked at me with a very serious look.

I knew that I wasn't gonna go anywhere with them. "Fine, get in," I growled.

"Yes!" They both high-fived each other and got into the back of the car.

We ended up at an empty fast food place because they were both hungry.

I was sitting at a table with the girl, whose name was Laura, waiting for our food; the little boy, whose name was Sam, was in the bathroom.

"So...do you have any parents?" I asked Laura, trying to get rid of the awkwardness of silence.

"Yeah." She nodded her head.

"Where are they?" I slumped a bit.

She shrugged. "They abandoned us."

"I'm sorry." I didn't even feel one bit sorry. I felt tired and sick. "So, do you have powers?"

"Yeah."

"Strong powers, I take it." I cocked an eyebrow.

"Yup."

I nodded my head. "Any other ones you have?"

"Yeah."

"What are they?"

"It's something really hard to describe." She scratched her head in deep thought. "You gotta see it to understand it."

"Huh. How'd you got 'em?" I knitted my eyebrows with confusion.

"My father gave them to me when I was little. He has powers of his own, too."

I rose my eyebrows. "Oh, what's his name?"

She darted her eyes down. "His n--" Then she froze.

I shot a confused look at her. "Laura?" I looked at her. "Are you okay?"

She didn't respond.

"Hello?" I waved my hand over her eyes.

She darted her eyes back at me; her eyes were no longer blue, but robotic red.

A pang of horror swept through me. Oh...my...gosh...

I stumbled backwards as I witnessed her going through what seemed like a painful transformation, turning into a skinny, towering, silver robot with sharp edges. It was the most scariest thing I had ever seen in my life.

It looked at me and I immediately ran out of the restaurant, rushing into the woods.

I sensed the robot chased after me; I didn't take long for it to catch up to me quickly since it has bigger steps than me. It scooped me up from the ground and rose me into the air forcing me to see its big, red eyes.

You have powers of your own, Toosk, I thought, Use them.

I held up my right hand and looked at it; it was already a gun since I was in fright. I pointed the gun at the robot.

Shoot.

A blast of blue light burst out from the gun and struck the robot in the eye. Instead of making it disappear, it sheirked and dropped me onto the ground.

I plummeted into a soft bush with a grunt. I scrambled up to my feet up and began to shoot it again with multiple rounds.

The robot didn't seem to care that it was being shot at; it was just getting closer and closer to me.

This is not working...I need something better! Then I remembered anothing power of mine.

I reached out my hand towards the robot and tried as best as I can to crush it with my magnetic powers. I made a few dents, but that wasn't affecting it.

What the heck?! I was hopeless. The only thing left was to make a getaway.

I sped to my car and hopped into it. Before I was able to put in the keys, I saw the robot, making a grab for it; I threw myself out before I with the car was crushed like a soda can.

The robot threw the car way beyond the trees and began to reach for me next.

I inched farther away from it, but it was just getting closer to me. There was a small cliff that lead into the forest and I tried not to go past there or else I would fall and it would catch me. The robot swiped its hand in front me, barely touching me because I lend backward while not purposely sticking out my chest.

I suddenly felt something full of zap and energy come out from me, making me collapse onto the ground due to its force. I heard a ear-shattering scream followed by a loud THUMP! that shook the road.

I slowly got up and to my surprise, I spotted the robot laying on the road with its head cut off; it was clearly dead. Okay, what the heck just happened?

I gazed around to see if anyone saw it; it was just me, myself, and I. Now what?

With my heart beginning to beat rapidly, I ran with terror, not knowing what just happened and was going on at the moment. I rushed into the forest, not caring that it was beginning to snow.

Tears streaked down my face and I began to shiver, while the snow was piling up. I looked around for a place to stay for the frigid night, but there was nothing.

I had no idea where my car was at and I did not want to look for it. Besides, it would be utterly useless.

I gathered up all my energy and began to aimlessly trudge through the snow, which began to turn into a blizzard. I tried to go against it, but it threw me on to the snowy ground.

I tried to get up again, but I was weak; I had nothing to eat and I was hungry and cold.

That's it, I thought to myself, extending my arms out against the snow. Take me away. I give up. I don't wanna live anymore, I messed up. I'm done with my life.

I laid there in the snow and everything faded into peaceful blackness.
