Destroyed
With a sigh of relief, I fell onto the sofa and closed my eyes.
Bebe and I found a nice apartment to stay in, since our house is gone. It's much smaller, but it's a great place to live in.
"It's good to be home," I muttered with my eyes still closed, "even though this home is new."
I heard Bebe giggled. "I'm happy that we are back together."
"Yeah..."
"Well, we gotta go shopping for clothes...and a car."
I snapped my eyes open. "Oh shoot, I forgot about that." I groaned. "Ugh, can we do that later?" I turned to my left to face her.
Bebe was in the kitchen, behind the counter top, facing me. "I'll go shopping then because it is pretty important."
"Oh... Then, I'll co--"
The ringing of my phone interrupted my sentence. It was on the coffee table parallel to me, vibrating as well. Wayne gave my phone to me when we were about to depart after we landed on the shore.
I reached for it clumsily and pressed the green button to answer. I then placed it against my ear. "Hello?"
"I'll leave, you can stay," Bebe whispered to me. She then rounded the kitchen, beginning to exit the room.
I pulled the phone away from my ear. "Okay," I called after he. I pressed the phone back to my ear just as Bebe left the small room. "Wayne?"
"Hey, are up for another small adventure?" Wayne asked me with a nervous tone.
I was so tired, I felt like sleeping for the rest of the year. "Oh no, why?"
"We gotta get Erik."
I sighed. "I was about to get him, but then you had to pull me away because Pierre was coming. Now you decide to get him?"
"Yeah, now that we're out of the headquarters and that Pierre doesn't know where we're at," he told me matter-of-factly.
Erik helped me a lot, I couldn't leave him behind. "Ugh, fine, I'll come." I ran my fingers down my face, wiping away my tiredness. "Meet you at the harbour?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, see you there." Then I hung up.
I begrudgingly got up and exited the room.
I sauntered down the streets of the city, making my way to the harbor, which was a good twenty to thirty minute walk. Wayne had to take the train since he doesn't have his truck and he can't fly, so I was in no rush.
I waited at the harbour's gate for about ten minutes until Wayne finally came around.
"Sorry that you had to wait," he apologized with a sheepish grin.
"That's fine. I had a good walk," I told him, waving my hand at him.
"Okay then, let's go."
We walked down the dock and hopped onto a speedboat. Wayne drove the speedboat over to the island's direction.
Water and more water came rushed past us, yet there was no sign of the land.
"Where the heck is the island?" Wayne asked, gazing around his surroundings with narrowed eyes.
"It's over there." I pointed to what seemed like a piece of flat land.
He faced it. "Wait, that's it?" He sounded bewildered. "Where're the buildings? The harbours? The people?"
"I dunno." I shrugged with a frown. "Let's check it out."
Wayne parked the boat on the ashy shore and got off.
I followed him off the boat and stepped onto the rough land. I gazed at what was in front of me. "Whoa...what the hell happened here?" I asked with my eyes wide.
In front of us was no longer a huge, white building. Instead, there were ashes, small flames, and rubble, spread out before us.
"I think the island exploded," Wayne told me with uncertainty.
I faced him. "If the island exploded, we wouldn't be standing on it," I pointed out flatly.
His eyes shifted. "I meant the buildings exploded."
I turned back to the wreckage. "Is anyone here, though?" I began to saunter deeper in the island carefully, avoiding stepping on glass and sharp items. "Hello?" I called out the vast land.
No one answered.
"HELLO! ANYONE HERE?!"
"I think it's lifeless," I heard Wayne assume from behind me. "No one's here..."
"No even Lace?" I turned to look at him.
Wayne was a few feet behind me. He was shrugging. "Well, I mean, Erik could've not had survived this destruction and no one's calling back--"
My eyes flew open. "So you're saying that Lace is dead?!"
"Well--"
"LACE!!!" I screamed out into the void. "ERIK LACE LEIFSSON, ANSWER ME!"
Nobody answered.
"See?" Wayne told me, breaking the silence.
I shook my head. "But this can't happned" I felt pressure rising in me. Then an idea came into my mind. I turned to Wayne. "Wait, if Lace couldn't survive in this, then...Pierre's dead. Right?"
Wayne looked at me with his wide eyes.
But he didn't say a word.
