Burned

We arrived in town about one hour later by train. Since we were about thirty minutes away at my house in walking distance, we hopped on a cab and got dropped off at the entrance of my neighborhood.

We were now strolling down the road toward my house with me in leading the way.

"My house is right around this corner on a cul-de-sac..." I rounded the curb and turned to my right.

I halted in my steps once I face the street my house was on. Instead of joy filling heart because I was finally at my house, my heart was filled with shock.

"Toosk..." Wayne called out from behind me; his voice seemed far away.

"My house..." I breathed out in stupor

Wayne walked up to me, halting next to me. "What about your house?" He gazed out in front of him. Where is it?"

There, were my house was once at was now just dirt and rubble on a cliff.

My large eyes were glued on it. "My house...it's gone..."

"What? How can that happen?"

Then one name came into my mind: Bebe.

"NO!!!" I began to ran down the street as fast as I was able to. "BEBE!!!" I stopped when I saw rubble, ashes, and burned furniture scattered before me.

"Bebe?!" I looked out at the ocean that was now visible, since my house was no longer able to block the view. I felt weak and fell to my knees. I placed my head in my hands and began to sob.

"What the heck happened to your house?" I heard Wayne say with awe as I sensed him walking up from behind me.

I shook my head. "En tiedä, en tiedä..." I forced out between sobs. I don't know, I don't know...

"Where's your wife?"

"En tiedä." I don't know.

I heard Wayne sighed heavily.

Then, an reason floated into my mind. "It's Pierre..." I murmured softly, yet with a wobbly tone. I gradually got up and wiped my eyes. "Pierre did this."

Wayne shot me a concerned look. "How do you know--?"

I turned to him and roared: "WHO ELSE DO YOU THINK WOULD DO THIS?!"

His eyes grew wide. "But he can't--"

"He's. Not. NICE!" I spat out. "He's evil, he's a villain--! Face it, Wayne, it's true!" I balled my hands into fists by my side.

"Okay, so he also took away your wife?" Wayne crossed his arms with lowered eyebrows.

I gazed down at what was left of my house spewed on the dusty ground. "Yeah..."

"Now why would he do that?" I heard him asking.

"To mess with me!" I snapped my head at him. "I don't know! I'm not him! He won't explain anything to me!" I thrusted my hands up into the air.

Wayne stayed quiet, clenching his jaw.

"That's it, I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind." I stormed off back down toward the street.

"Toosk, no." I felt Wayne grabbing onto my wrist and roughly pulling me back.

I sharply turned around and gazed at me with a menacing look. "Let go, Wayne. I done with this--" I yanked my wrist toward myself, attempting to break free from his grasp. "I'm not putting up with this anymore--!" I pulled my hand away from him again, but he kept his grip solid.

"Toosk, it won't help; beating him up would not do anything," Wayne told me sternly.

"Yes it would--it'll teach him to not mess with me!" I gave one last tug and my wrist finally broke loose.

"Please, Toosk, don't go." Wayne grabbed hold of my wrist again. He looked deeply at me. "You don't know what Pierre is capable of."

"Yes I do." I moved my arm in awkward positions to try to break free again, but he kept a tight grasp.

Wayne grabbed onto my hand with his other hand, halting my movements. "You know what?" he said with a lighter tone.

I furrowed my eyebrows with a frown. "What?"

"I know someone...who just might help." His facial features began to soften.

I rolled my eyes. "Oh great, now we're gonna drag someone else into the scene." I felt Wayne's grip begin to loosen, so I pulled my arms back to my sides. "No, Wayne, it's fine--"

He grabbed onto my wrist. "He'll help you," he told me gently. "You'll thank me later."

"I don't want help and I don't need it." I thrusted my hands out from my sides, getting out of his grip again. "I just want to get this over with, okay?"

"He can kill you," Wayne stated matter-of-factly.

I shrugged. "I have powers."

"Do you know how to use them?" He shot me a flat look.

"Yeah." I crossed my arms.

He scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Valehtelija." Liar.

I gaped at him. "Excuse me?!"

Wayne extended his palm out at me. "Toosk, let's play this the safe way. The last thing I want is to see your grave next week. So please?"

"How do you know if this guy can help me?" I shoved my hands into my pants' pockets.

"Because he dealt with Pierre a few times." He clasped his hands in front of him. "Trust me, he knows more things about him than Pierre's wife knows about him."

"Oh really?" I rose my eyebrows.

"Yeah. It is a possibility. Anyways, he lives around fifteen minutes away from here. I'll lead you." Wayne extended his hand toward the direction this guy lives. He then breezed past me.

I began to follow him down the sidewalk. "Fine. But if he's a waste of my time, I'm going straight to that island."

"Got it," he said from in front of me.
