Chapter 7-Fieldtrip

That was absolutely the most horrible nightmare I had had in my entire life here on earth.

Well, the most horrible TRUE nightmare.

I stared at the ceiling, reminiscing everything that had happened after I 'confessed' to him. I shook my head, trying to forget everything. But no, it really won't leave my mind at all. I rolled around my bed, screaming in frustration.

"Hey, are you okay?" I saw mom peeking on the doorway. I nodded, composing myself. "Boy problems?" I shook my head defiantly. I wasn't gonna tell her that. She snickered at my response. "The school told me that you have an upcoming school trip. You aware with that?" I told her I didn't have any idea about the school trip. "Well, they told me it was optional."

"If that's the case, then I'd rather stay here at home, slacking off." I shrugged, grinning from ear to ear.

Mom frowned at me, "Lazy bone. Attend one! The school also told me that you'll have extra points with your Physics class if you attend one." I stopped and mused it for awhile. Well, I have a not so good grade with my Physics class. But I'm lazy.

I turned to mom, cracking a smile. "I hate to break it to 'ya, but I still don't want to go to that trip."

"Even if I'll bake you chocolate chip cookies for a whole week?"

Okay, that's it. She really knew how to push me. I love chocolate chip cookies, and I'll do anything just to eat one every single day. "Maybe I'll go, after all." she snickered at my reply and went upstairs to her bedroom to fix her clothes.

I sighed. This is gonna be my first time attending a field trip. It was annoying to attend one. Yes, I'm not excited. I mean, all you're gonna do is visit places. Where's the fun in that, right? That's why I'd rather stay at home. But the chocolate chip cookies changed my mind.

I prepared my clothes. I don't have the talent of organizing. So maybe you know that I'm just gonna stuff up my things in my bag. Mostly, food will be the content of the bag.

"Dinner time!" Dad shouted from downstairs. I was hungry already, and maybe I could continue stuffing up my things later. I've got so much time left.

I quickly ran downstairs. I almost slipped when I saw a boy with spiky black hair. "G-Gray? What're you doing here? In my house?" I slowly queried. Shock was completely evident in my expression and tone. He then told me that they were gonna eat dinner at my house. My jaw dropped. Is this dinner gonna be a disaster again?

"Before anything," I heard mom said which made me turn around. "have you two made up?" Made up? What is she-oh. The last time she saw us, we were both fighting. No wonder.

Gray and I exchanged a glance. "Yes." we both answered.

Mom smiled, "Good. Now, come. We have to eat."

I just remembered something: Gray and I were already in a relationship. I let out a small gasp, becoming nervous all of a sudden. Did Gray forget it? I mean, Gray acts like we're some sort of friends. I mean for now, we're in the stage: more than friends.

"Juvia, are you okay? You look nervous. What happened?" Mom inquired. I shuffled my feet uncomfortably.

"Nothing, mom. Just remembered something." she looked suspicious for a second before turning to leave. I sighed, feeling really bothered. How am I supposed to deal with this?

When mom was out of sight and earshot, Gray held my hand which made me jump. "We'll tell them later. For now, act normal." he squeezed my hand and followed mom.

This is gonna be a long night.

"Oh, really? I know. Mathematics is really hard. Been there, done that." Mom commented, munching on a green pea. I rolled my eyes. She was such a nuisance. We were talking about how Math disturbed our lives and grades. Well, for Gray, actually. It was hard for him. Mom told me that I should tutor him when I have free time. Mom also told everyone the truth that she's not that good in Math. I didn't know why I was better in Math than she was.

"Have you decided if you're going to the school trip, Gray?" Mom peered at the boy beside me who was sipping his tea.

"Yes."

"That's cool!" she clasped her hands together. What was so cool about that? "Juvia didn't want to attend one. I convinced her to go by baking her chocolate chip cookies for a week. It's her favorite." K. Of course Gray didn't care. Why would he, right?

Gray faked a laugh. "Ha-ha. I see." He didn't know what to say, an understatement.

"I guess that's all, Mrs. Fullbuster?" Mom asked, sniggering. The air got a little bit awkward because of the silence, so maybe she decided to end the dinner already. Mr. and Mrs. Fullbuster agreed with her. Oh, wait. Gray didn't announce it. Phew. Good thi-

"No." Gray interjected, standing up so suddenly. We all looked at him, startled. Oh no. Is he gonna tell them already? I hope not. This was going way too fast. "I-I mean we, Juvia and I-are gonna tell you guys something." I bit my lower lip as our parents switched their gazes repeatedly between Gray and I. I fidgeted under the table, getting uneasy and nervous. I was wondering what their reaction would be after the big revelation.

"U-Uh...." I started, trailing off. I mean, what was I supposed to say, right? Gray was the one who started this whole 'telling them' thing, not me. The relationship part was my fault, technically. But I should blame Erza for all this. For making me do this.

Gray held my hand. Again. "We're already in a relationship." Silence. A long period of silence overtook the table. Nobody dared speaking nor moving. I'm already getting scared here.

I slowly glanced at mom who was staring blankly into space. I gulped when I switched to Dad. He was giving Gray a murderous and menacing glare. I could feel Gray getting intimidated at Dad's reaction. Mostly.... frightened.

That's when I heard Mr. Fullbuster burst out into fits of laughter. I gazed at him, my mind filled with astonishment and questions. Why was he laughing? Can't he see that we were being serious here?

I watched as Mr. Fullbuster wiped tears in his eyes. Why was he so overjoyed about this? Obviously, it was the opposite reaction of my parents and Mrs. Fullbuster. Yes, Mrs. Fullbuster was looking pissed off, too.

"Gray? Really? Oh my gosh." Gray's dad is insane. Oh my gosh.

"What are you talking about?" Gray inquired, bewildered. He doesn't know what was going on in his dad's mind.

"Okay. Sorry for the sudden and unnecessary reaction," Mr. Fullbuster said. "Gray, my son. Are you not bluffing? You never got yourself a girlfriend. Well, you tried to get one, but failed. And I thought you weren't going to get a girlfriend after being rejected by-"

"Dad. Stop." I gaped at Gray. He was looking really mad at his dad. This was the first time I saw him like this. His face and ears were beet red. I flinched at his expression, slightly backing away. He's scary.... scarier than my dad.

Mr. Fullbuster shrugged. "What? I'm only telling them the truth."

Gray, with knitted eyebrows, stood up and slammed his fists onto the table. I jumped, surprised at what he did. "I don't need the truth. You don't need to tell them the truth." he stormed off, still mad. Oh boy.

**

I paced around in my room, biting my lips. I was still confused as to what happened earlier. Or should I say, as to what Mr. Fullbuster told us earlier. I was rather curious.

"Juvia, you'll leave in a minute. Be ready." Right. Today was our school trip. And I wasn't excited about it. Not one bit. To tell you the truth, I was dreading to go to that school trip. I feel like something bad is gonna happen.

Shaking my head, I flew out the door, bidding my parents goodbye. I was expecting someone to be outside our gate, but that someone wasn't there. He was supposed to be there, but why wasn't he? He wasn't my bodyguard, but he was my boyfriend. He's not someone I don't know.

Wait, why was I mad? What do I care, anyway? I mean, Erza just told me to make him my boyfriend.

Speaking of Erza, just when am I gonna break up with Gray? She haven't showed up lately. What's happening to her?

I went inside the school bus and saw Gray. The one I was trying to find earlier. He was in an awful mood, I could tell. I'm sure he was still mad about yesterday. The question is, why was he furious? I watched him as he stared out the window, looking deep in thought and irritated. Now, I wasn't mad. I guess he wanted some quality time with himself. Scared that I might piss him off with just my presence, I sat two rows away from him, on the opposite side. I noticed that nobody sat beside him, too.

I waited for the bus to leave. I couldn't help but glimpse at him. I raised an eyebrow when I saw that one of my classmates sat beside him. It was a blond girl with chocolate orbs. What bothered me was Gray. He acted.. weird. He always acted weird, but he's.... never mind. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I didn't get enough sleep, anyway, so it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm having hallucinations early in the morning. I really think I was looking halt today.

Sighing heavily, I flopped down on my seat. These were the questions inside my head: What was his connection to the girl? Did he really court her? More importantly, who is she? Yeah, only three questions, but it really bothered me to the point that it was difficult for me to sleep at night.

I looked up and saw Erza. She sat beside me so suddenly that it made me raise an eyebrow at her, "Been awhile, huh? How're you? You haven't been showing up to me that much lately." I said randomly, partly trying to make up a conversation. It was because she was giving me an intense stare that, of course, I don't like at all.

"I've brought you a news." she told me calmly. Woah. Now I can feel the serious air here. It's giving me shivers all the way to my bone. "It's up to you if you take it as a good news or bad news." she added. I watched her take a deep breath, getting ready for her oh-so-great-news. "You'll be his girlfriend for three months." I didn't know how to react, seriously speaking. What am I supposed to answer? 'Yay!!'? 'Okay.'? 'Great news.'?

"And?" I queried, raising a brow at her.

She shrugged, "That's all. I'm off. My boyfriend is waiting for me." Boyfriend? Oh. That must be Jellal. She stood up and walked away from me. I saw her sit at the back with Jellal. I was about to return my gaze on the window when I caught sight of Gray. He was sleeping. How cute. I thought.

Then Lyon flopped down to the seat next to me. "Yo. Missed me?" he laughed. He was very vigorous today. I wish I could be like that early in the morning.

"Oh hi." I greeted sheepishly, rubbing the back of my head. I felt a little awkward. The fact that he held feelings for me was making it hard for me to be casual and chill around him.

"Feeling awkward today, aren't 'ya? Don't be. It's not a bother. It'll be better for you to forget everything I have told you. Try to remember Elsa's line: "The past is in the past."

I chuckled, still shy. "I-I'll try to."

Thereafter, we were off to the school trip.
