Chapter 11- Lucy Heartfilia

The sky, as blue as the ocean, was filled with fluffy white clouds and white birds. The sun was as bright as ever, indicating that summer has come.

I was still daydreaming about the kiss that happened that night.

“... Jellal is so cool and amazing.” Was what I heard from Erza the entire time I had been with her. The fact that she liked Jellal was so obvious but if I’d tell her that, I might as well get ready for a bump in my head. They were in a relationship, and she was still fawning over him. Weird girl. “And, Gray... he’s kissed you, huh? Good thing. I’m so proud of you.” She told me, abruptly changing the subject. My cheeks heated up from her sudden comment and I stood up from the chair I was sitting on.

“Come on, that was just a kiss.” She stood up and we walked around the park we were in. “I mean, you could do that to Jellal too!”

She blushed as she slapped my shoulders. “Oh, I'm not going to do that! Even though I want to... but he’s so popular and cool and if I did that, his fangirls will hate me a lot and maybe even try to get me out the president position.”

“You’re in a relationship with him and you say that? You can beat ‘em up.” I shrugged as I earned a glare. “What? I was just stating the obvious.”

“I can beat them up, but I will not do that. As a president, it’s my duty to bring peace and harmony in this school—”

“We’re not in school and you can shut up now. Look over there, your prince charming is coming.” She peered at where my index finger was pointed to, and her mouth almost dropped at the sight of Jellal walking around coolly with a charming aura. The girls swarmed around him like bees, whispering to each other on how handsome he was. “Erza, you have to snap out of it. Today is not a school day, and I’m sure those girls won't harm you. They don’t even know you. You’re his girlfriend!” I pushed her, making her land on Jellal’s muscular body. I chuckled at the sight of her melting in front of Jellal. The girls gave her death glares as Jellal glanced at her with a weird look.

“Uh, Erza? Are you okay?” Erza finally snapped out of it as she stood up straight and looked down in embarrassment.

“Oh, uh, sorry. I didn’t mean to... uh... you know... do it.” And Erza Scarlet finally gives in to Jellal’s presence.

“Oh, it’s—” Erza looked up, and Jellal stopped talking just to gawk at Erza’s flushed cheeks. “o... kay.” He finished as the girls went quiet around him. I didn’t want to interrupt the little “moment” they were having so I slowly moved away, trying to be unnoticeable.

I finally got out of that awkward situation and upon realizing it I sighed in relief.

I accidentally spotted out a certain blond girl. My eyes narrowed as I tried to decipher her name, or if I have ever met her somewhere. Oh, wait. The girl from the camp! What was her name again? L... Lucy! Yeah, it’s Lucy.

One text message received. My phone said.

I rolled my eyes to this. She’s insane.

Still, I decided to meet up with the Lucy girl. “Hi!” I greeted, beaming at her. “You’re the one from the camp, right?”

She scrutinized me, almost making me feel like she’s a creeper. ”Oh... oh! It’s you! Lucy, right?” Have I told her my name? “It’s a pleasure to meet you again. What brings you here?”

“I was just taking a stroll, is all. Bored at home.”

“I see.” She jabbed her thumb towards the coffee shop. “Want some?”

I chortled. “It’d be an honor.”

**

“That’s quite shocking...” She mumbled with flushed cheeks. I had just told her all about Gray having a crush on her, but I wasn’t sure if until now, that’s the case. “I never knew... but congratulations on you two.”

“Thanks... I myself was surprised when I heard all about it as well!” I exclaimed, smiling. “But I don’t know if he’s moved on from you. Maybe? Because he’s now my boyfriend.” Here it goes. “So tell me something about you!”

The sudden change of topic slightly lightened up the mood. She cleared her throat. “The name’s Lucy Heartfilia. 17 years old. I am a bookworm, but certainly not a nerd. I do love the color blue and pink.” She bowed curtly to look like she’s formal. I got abashed.

“Well then, my turn. Juvia Lockser. 17 years old. I do martial arts and I love rain and blue as well. I don’t exactly love books, but I read around when I’m in the mood.”

Lucy gasped and tried to contain the squeal that was about to come out of her mouth. “Wow! You’re doing martial arts? Now I wouldn’t want to get on your bad side.” She playfully said, laughing.

“Nah, I don’t hurt girls.” Except for Erza. I sounded like a tomboy who said that I didn’t hurt girls.

“Oh, your boyfriend is here...” Lucy’s smirk was making me abashed. Gray Fullbuster in a white shirt, leather jacket, and denim pants would be something you wanna daydream about all day. His disheveled hair made him look like some sexy model. Okay, why do I sound like a pedophile or something? Am I really checking him out?

“Don’t drool over me.” Gray uttered, chuckling. Lucy sniggered at this and Gray noticed her. “Oh, hey Lucy.” He said, acknowledging her presence and nodding. Just like that? Just “Oh, hey Lucy.”? I’ve got a lot to learn from this guy... I better ask him when we’re alone next time.

I bit my lip when he slumped down next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “How sweet!” Lucy gushed, sipping on her straw. “Natsu, my boyfriend, is like that too.” I straightened my back, preparing for the awkward silence that was about to come. Surprisingly, nothing came.

“Congratulations on you too.” Gray replied for us, smiling. I couldn’t help but give him pitying glances. Maybe he’s sad deep down and just wouldn't show it. A tough guy he is.

“I have to go. Don’t want to look like a third wheel.” Lucy bid her goodbye and even hugged me, and just nodded at Gray.

After she left, Gray felt my intense stare at him. “Why are you looking at me like that?” His eyes were twinkling, and don’t even ask me why. He’s so hard to figure out. This is only a suspicion... maybe he's moved on from Lucy. “Hello? Are you checking me out?”

I immediately shook my head. “No, no. Not at all. I was just thinking...”

“Thinking about what?”

“You.” Moments later, I realized what I had told him was cheesy. Cheeks flushed, I waved my hands. “I mean, you and your, uh, feelings for y-you know... Lucy.”

Gray stared at me for awhile, a little surprised. Then he gave me a genuine smile. “Thanks for being concerned, but I’m fine.” He muttered under his breath, enveloping me in a warm hug. I smiled at him back.

**

“So this relationship...” Gray trailed off. I inquisitively quirked an eyebrow. We were at his house and nobody was home. I just hope that nothing else will happen in this house besides us hanging out. This was just the second time I have visited his house. It was warm, welcoming and cozy just like his hug earlier.

“What about it?”

“Don’t you think we should now take it seriously?” I was about to slap him for saying it so bluntly but then his serious face stopped me. What the heck. Is he joking or what?

“H-Huh?”

“I said—ugh. Never mind.” Is it just me or is he blushing? Totally unbelievable. “So... yeah, about our relationship. I think we should break up.” Break up... the words rang in my head a million times. Is it because of Lucy that he’s breaking up with me? Is it because he’s hurt? Is it because he doesn’t want me to get involved in all these? It’s fine by me but— “Are you okay?” Gray inquired, worry evident in his tone.

“I don’t really know...” I answered quietly.

He rubbed his wrists together, one thing I noticed he always did whenever he was nervous. He exhaled audibly. “I-Is it okay with you? T-To break up?”

The words got stuck in my throat. I slowly nodded. “I should go.” I drawled, my voice cracking in the end. What’s happening to me? I should be happy right? With this, Erza’s dares would be over. I wouldn’t be worrying about this. No one would ever pester me around. No Gray Fullbuster who’s pestering me. I got up weakly, and mustered up the courage to smile and say, “Bye.”
