Happy

Everyone was happy. Why wouldn't they be? The entire world was perfect. Love was endless, there was no need for anything, and the population was devoid of flaws. You may be questioning this. Trust me, it's true. Well, if you're so skeptical, allow me to tell you a story.

Jay was born with a cleft lip. No big deal, right? Nothing that would mess up his life too badly. He got his lip fixed, and lived with only mild disapproval from his perfect parents for a few years, until he was, let's say 7. Because of this ever so mild disapproval, Jay developed depression. He tried to hide it, but it ended up getting worse. His parents began to notice and shunned their imperfect malfunction, despite him doing nothing wrong. All of this went to his head, and he began to go a little bit... out of it.

His parents were killed one day. The little boy, not even a decade old, was accused of the murder. Nobody understood why he was allowed to live in the first place, he didn't even fit in! He was taken to an old, abandoned shack in the middle of nowhere, where all the flawed people were kept. It was the only safe place for people like them, the people that upset the beautiful society. We have to keep it going for them. My name is Jay, and who am I to complain? Everyone was happy.

I made myself cry and now I want to hug a fictional character that I created... good job, me

Anyway, if you read the description, you'll know that this was a challenge to write a short story that begins and ends with the same sentence, the first time being lighthearted and the second being very dark. If you want, you can comment a sentence suggestion for me to try.
